Affleck On Viagra, Wins ‘Undressed’ Poll…
- Looks like Affleck‘s making the news again, first talking about his wacky experience with Viagra in excerpts from his upcoming Playboy interview:

The ex-presidential hopeful’s drug of choice, erection pill Viagra, hasfallen into the wrong, um, hands. And those hands belong to Armageddon starBen Affleck. The heartthrob’s recent use of the drug resulted in some veryserious side effects, he reveals in an interview in the December issue ofPlayboy.
“I almost had a heart attack. I had to sit down, and all it did was make mesweat and feel dizzy. And really unnerved,” he tells the magazine. “I feltno sexual side effects whatsoever.”
He calls it “one of [his] biggest disappointments.”
What the heck made him decide to partake in the little blue impotence pill?Plain ol’ peer pressure. “I figured it’s this old-guy drug. If you can’t geta hard-on, you take Viagra,” the 27-year-old actor says. “But then theseguys start telling me, ‘No, no, no, you can take it too, and it’s like youwere 14 and jerking off six times a day.’ ”
Pfizer, the company behind the gazillion-selling drug, does not condone theuse of Viagra just for kicks, by the way, deeming recreational use as”inappropriate.”
“Viagra should be considered for use only after a clinical evaluation thatinvolves physical exam and medical history to confirm a diagnosis oferectile dysfunction and to assess the appropriateness of Viagra therapy,”the company says in a statement.
Affleck, however, might argue the drug is a job requirement. Apparently,star-status is pretty good for his love life. “Kevin Bacon once said,’Anybody can get laid when they’re famous. The champion thing is to get laidwhen you’re not famous. That’s what’s really hard.’ Boy does that turn outto be true,” Matt Damon’s best buddy reveals. “You can be seriouslydisfigured or whatever and women will still be attracted to you.”
In spite of his apparently busy bedroom antics, Affleck has also beenactively developing his film career. His much-hyped religious comedy, Dogma,is due in theaters soon. Four more Ben-laden flicks–Reindeer Games, TheThird Wheel, Boiler Room and Bounce–will debut next year.
In a somewhat related twist, Affleck’s been selected in a poll taken of women online as the movie star that they’d “mostwant to undress”. Ya know Ben’s reading this one and loving it…

NEW YORK (AP) – Ben Affleck is the movie star women most want to undress, according to an Internet poll. The 27-year-old Affleck, who has won an Academy Award and was a one-time companion of actress Gwyneth Paltrow, squeaked past Paltrow’s other former beau, Brad Pitt. Jon Stewart was voted the talk-show host most wanted to be de-briefed. More than 13,000 visitors responded to the poll conducted by Cosmopolitan magazine and Women.com Networks, Inc., according to the results posted Tuesday.
Commentary
- Well, it’s just been about the busiest week since this site started, not a good combination with moving! We’re averaging about 100 e-mails a day now, so bear with us if responses come slow, it’s been almost a full-time job just keeping up with e-mails, let alone writing updates and such.
Today we FINALLY got Dogma Rumor Control all caught up with the latest — So that means you can surf over for the most recent reviews, articles, and newsbites. Most of the news was reported here on this page, so we’ve just lifted it from there.and moved it along. You’ll still probably want to check it out just to make sure you didn’t miss anything, though.
There’s also an AMAZING amount of pre-release Dogma screenings going on around the country, so read below for your chance to see the movie before it’s out. - George Carlin was on that Howard Stern wannabe Mancow‘s radio show yesterday morning in Chicago, promoting Dogma. Mancow called Kevin a friend but criticized the film and the concept of Alanis as God. Go figure. The jackass.
- Kevin was featured in the Hollywood Hall of Fame this morning, which is a one minute-long feature run during commercial breks on a Calgary TV station.
- Mallrats lives on! Tonight during “Once and Again” on ABC there was a brief shot of the ‘Rats theatrical poster in the background during a scene. Must be some fans working on the set.
- In the November issue of Details there’s an article on a new camera called Lomo. They sent it to a few actors, among them Jason Lee. Carmen took a picture of him that’s in the magazine. Next to it it says:
“The Lomo is so easy to shoot with, and easy to carry,” says Lee’s wife Carmen Llywellyn, who took the picture. “We took it everywhere, and loved the idea of just shooting whatever we saw – very artistic.” While Llywellyn, an actress, clearly manages the household photography, Lee’s no creative couch potato: After appearing as lonely billionaire Skip Skipperton in Lawrence Kasdan’s Mumford, he reunites with director Kevin Smith (Mallrats, Chasing Amy) to play a hotheaded demon in this month’s Dogma.
Now all we need is for the Lomo folks to start sending promo cameras to lowly webmasters…

- Howdy. The car troubles have been boiled down to all new spark plugs and wiring, which still cost a hundred & change, but fixed the problem and is definitely better than a major transmission problem or something. The way I drive that car, it’s almost a miracle that it wasn’t something worse…
There’s no denying the fact that Lions Gate is going all out with promotion of the flick — Ads are now airing everywhere for Dogma, mostly on Fox, the WB, and Comedy Central, but many other spots as well. In fact, last night, Dogma was the spotlight sponsor for the immensely popular new WB show “Angel”. If that doesn’t make some good impressions, we don’t know what will.
Anyway, Dogma continues to dominate the news ’round these parts, naturally. Today we’ve got a few reports from the benefit event along with some new photos, tons of newsbites on the flick, and more.
Benefit Summaries/Reviews & Pics!
- Hopefully you took a few minutes and read our Dogma benefit trip report yesterday…But even if ya did, you may want to surf back over because we’ve just added a lot more pics from the event, courtesy of Gramp, as well as pics, reviews, and a transcription of Kev’s introduction that can be found over at All Purpose Reviews. Again, we were happy to be a part of it and hope everyone had a good time. Sure sounds like ya did. Dogma Benefit: What Have We Learned?
- Marksman chatted it up with some of the residents of Red Bank while he was in town, and dug up a list of RUMORS that have been making the rounds. Keep in mind that we can’t confirm any of this, and it’s all just coming from overheard conversations and questions asked during the Dogma benefit on Monday:
* BHD in theaters?
Phase 1 will be in NY and LA, Phase 2 will be nationwide IF the bi-coastal screens do well.
* Autograph filming?
If Vincenzo gets his way, Autograph will be filming in New Jersey.
* Dogma DVD?
Lots of fans thought that the film suffered from all those cuts, and are hoping for a “Director’s Cut” style DVD, as opposed to a “Deleted Scenes” section. The rumor is that the Director’s Cut may happen, but not with 100% of the cut footage.
* Jay was sick?
All you peeps that said “Jay looks all stoned out and shit!!” are probably mistaken. The word on Broad St. was that he was sicker than Walt Flanagan’s Dog (Bronchitis?), but inspired by all the fans, he mustered up the energy to make his appearance.
* Fake ID anyone?
A communication breakdown somewhere may have caused the “Under 21” crowd to get turned down at the door to the Downtown Cafe, even though Kim announced that they were welcome. After her set, Kim extended her apologies to all who missed out on the show and the sushi.

- A small Dogma piece appeared in yesterday’s Daily Record, one of the bigger Scottish newspapers, which was mainly based on the Alanis pics we recently added. This time Kevin’s name was mentioned, and there were also a few lines on the Catholic league’s protests.
- Dogma’s even hitting the auction circuits already, it seems: EBay magazine’s got an article with some pics on Dogma in their latest issue.
- Finally today, a reader of the site checks in with his take on some of the elements brought up in the In Pittsburgh article, as well as some information and direct quotes from it that you may not have heard. We thought it was well written and made some good points, so we’re sharing it with you. It’s a good summary of the piece:
Unorthodox Views
Kevin Smith muses on faith, Catholics and his intent to pop up at the Three Rivers Film Festival. BY STEPHEN H. SEGAL
“All that’s vile comes from you,” reads one piece of hate mail posted on Smith’s website. “You teach hatred and prejudice. You insult Christians, especially Catholics. How Satanic!.. Hitler didn’t die, you’re still doing his hatreds and works. Are you aware you’re un-American? … May God judge your terrible acts.”
That article claims that is from a post on Kevin’s web page.. (the WWWBoard??). Anyway, In Pittsburgh has a really nice 1 and a half pager on Kevin Smith. The first part mainly deals with the Catholic League, and their president William Donohue. It’s quick to point out that Donohue hasn’t seen the film though…. Here is what makes me laugh though, this could have been printed elsewhere here, but if not.. enjoy:
“I’ve got a message for Hollywood: Just think of the Catholics as a big bunch of Indians. Would you portray Indians like this?”
Donohue said that in New York.. Smith’s reply:
“That’s what blows my mind… their insistence on Catholics as a minority. Catholics have pretty much run the world for the last 2,000 years. I don’t think a Catholic has been really persecuted since the last apostle died. If I were a real minority. I’d be shocked and appalled by Donohue’s comments. You’re a minority? You’re a man, you’re white!”
The article continues with more of the whole controversy. Then goes into Daredevil.
“Working with that character, (Daredevil), gave me an opportunity to explore some of those themes, (the infant in the storylines who just might be the second coming of Christ, or the anti-Christ)….I pretty much worked out my own religious issues a while ago.”
Now for the part that everyone who will be at the Three Rivers Film Festival all care about…
Now that he’s through with Daredevil and Dogma is in the home stretch – the often overextended Smith and his View Askew Productions team are enjoying a bit of breathing room. “It’s kind of nice.”, he says, “for the first time in five years we don’t have a next project lined up.” Of course that doesn’t include the trip to Pittsburgh for the Dogma screening at the Three Rivers Film Festival. “We made a lot of friends out there.”, he says. “If we ever do a shoot that’s not Jersey-centric, I’d definitely go back to Pittsburgh.”
It then shifts gears and talks about the Clerks cartoon. How he brought back the old cast of the movie, and how here are gonna be some guest vocals done by Gwyneth Paltrow, James Woods, and Mario Joyner. The article talks about the ABC deal, and closes with mention of Smith and his wife and baby… and ends with this:
“I want to raise my daughter to believe that church is good – but God is better.”
Commentary
- Wow – It’s amazing that we can even be awake to do this. Someday soon I’m gonna catch up on sleep, really I am. But there’s too…much…to…do! There’s still piles of stuff at the house that has to be put away, but tonight I’m going to finally check out “Fight Club” — Chris is gonna go again and get my opinion on those last 45 minutes, too. Whatever they may entail. So I’m looking forward to seeing it, I’ve heard good things from most of you about it. I’m less enthused about “Bringing Out The Dead” than when it was first mentioned, but it’s probably still got some good moments. That’s on tap for later in the week. Plus tonight’s another new Buffy & Angel, so there won’t be much time for unpacking or getting to bed TOO early. Sure, we don’t HAVE to see all these movies and watch all these TV shows…But we do. So I again apologize to those of you who are still waiting for e-mail replies, or BETTER ones anyway. I’m still playing catch-up.
As most of you know, the Dogma benefit screening happened last night, and it was a rousing success. We’ve got Kevin’s thoughts on that as well as our full report today for your reading enjoyment. And then of course there’s today’s other newsbites, as well. Dogma RC will need to wait another day or two for a full catchup, just due to sheer exhaustion on our part — It won’t be much that hasn’t already appeared here on this front page, though, just maybe an errant article or two that we overlooked, and the Dogma related NewsBites from here.

Kevin: “About Last Night”…
- Kevin stopped by the board and posted a very kind message regarding last night’s festivities — And he also slipped a little hint of what’s on tap for the next event in 2000 (And boy, it sounds like a biggun’!):
Thanks for coming, one and all. Sorry we couldn’t do any Q&A’s, but it was rather late for the theatre folks.
Some thoughts I forgot to mention or didn’t realize until later…
What you saw was what we screened in Toronto and New York. It’s virtually the final, but not quite. The credits are different in the release version (including the dreaded ‘Jay and Silent Bob will return in….’), as well as some of the music (Beastie Boys are out, unfortunately) and some minor dialogue cleanup. Other than that, it’s the same flick.
The sound in theatre one sounded muddled. Vincent made some inquiries, and it turns out that – while they did install a new stereo set-up in the theatre, the lens that reads the optical sound track was still the old lens. Hence, muddled sound – in stereo!. I apologize for that.
We did raise over ten grand for Diabetes (the exact name of the organization that gets the check escapes me right now; rest assured, it’s not m bank account, though – this is legit). After the minor expenses (like renting the theatre), we’ll be able to present the foundation with a ten thousand dollar check. Not too shabby. Thanks again for your generosity.
Isn’t the kid’s hat just adorable? If only they made them in adult sizes.
Thanks to Brad and Chris and especially Ming for coming out, as well as getting the word out there about the screening.
