  • An interesting mention of Kevin’s work was located in a UK book called “Dreaming Of Strangers”. It’s fiction about English movie-buffs and relationships. From page 202: (backstory – guy and girl get it on, then girl decides to finish it. Girl then goes to store to spend vast amounts of cash on videos to feel better):
“She started off with a copy of Chasing Amy. She’d always thought of KevinSmith as one of ‘her’ directors, and although they hadn’t talked about it,she had a fairly strong suspicion that Chris didn’t rate his films. Pleasedwith this choice, she decided to go for the whole NJ trilogy, adding Clerksand Mallrats to her basket. Feeling lucky, she went to the front of the shopand was amazed to find an ex-rental copy of Dogma.”

The author’s name is Matt Thorne, and if anyone’s SERIOUSLY interested, it’s published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in the UK at £9.99, but our scooper tells us it’s not really worth the cash. So there ya have it.

  • Kevin’s featured in the Fall 2000 issue of BUST magazine, the “Men We Love” issue. Kat McAndrew’s very impressed with the way he writes his female characters:
As an unabashedly proud Jersey girl who spent the bulk of her teenage years shuttling between an all-girl Catholic school and the mall (as Brodie so aptly reminds us in Mallrats, “It’s not a mall, it’s THE mall. Show some respect”), I have no choice but to gush about filmmaker Kevin Smith. Last year’s Dogma rocked my world–intelligent, brilliantly funny, and the chicks in this movie get to boot Matt and Ben’s pretty-boy asses out of all Creation. In each of his films–Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma–Kevin Smith creates complex female characters whom I can identify with–they can hang with the boys, but they like being girls; sometimes they just want to talk, sometimes the last thing they want to do is talk, and they always wonder why everything has to be such a fucking issue. Kevin Smith gives girls like me a voice in the movies, and I love him for that. I only hope the folks out there are listening.
  • Kevin gets mentioned in a video called “Borys From Canada” at IFuse. In it, a guy pitches a very strange script to Kev himself. Looks like ya need Flash 4.0 to watch it.
  • Our pal Jason Lee is featured in an article in the latest Black Book magazine (with Juliette Lewis on the cover). We’ve yet to get a copy for online use, but if one comes across, we’ll try and post it for you to read.
  • EW Online has another article on Matt & Ben’s Project Greenlight for you, if you’re following along with the project.
