SYNOPSIS

One of the most talked about movies of the year is also one of the funniest! In this hilarious comic fantasy from writer/director Kevin Smith, two banished angels (Damon and Affleck) find a loophole that would get them back into heaven. The only snag? They’ll be destroying existence in the process. In an effort to stop them, the overworked voice of God (Rickman) taps cynical mortal Bethany (Fiorentino) to save the world by preventing the angels from reaching their unholy destination, New Jersey. Throw in two unlikely prophets (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith), the quick-witted, yet little-known thirteenth apostle (Rock) and a sexy, former muse with a case of writer’s block (Hayek) and you’ve got an hysterical and thrilling race against time.

Kansas: Additions & Summary…

November 9th @ 4:05 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Extreme, John, Amie Logan & Randall

  • Just to summarize a few things, and catch up on a couple points we missed, here’s a summary of some of the important news and info from Kev’s appearance in Kansas earlier this week:
  • It’s POSSIBLE that Bill Murray will be the ex-Saturday Night Live cast member that appears in VA5.
  • Dwight Ewell’s role in the film will indeed be that of Hooper X!
  • Some of the film will take place in Kansas, as it’s a road trip. We assume filming will take place in California to make it LOOK like Kansas, but we’re not sure of that.
  • The small spoiler we printed the other day regarding one of Matt Damon’s scenes was indeed true (but may be changed as Kevin is currently working on a new draft, draft 7).
  • Scott Mosier also appeared with Kevin to meet with folks and sign stuff.

RUMOR: Wizard To Give Away VA5 Walk-On Role?

November 9th @ 4:04 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Steven Godfrey

  • This is an interesting development…One we can’t confirm yet, but something we definitely thought that a lot of you would be interested to hear. Our scooper chatted with Gareb Shamus, publisher of Wizard Magazine, who happens to be a HUGE View Askew/Kevin Smith fan (not a surprise consider all the coverage in his magazine) and uncovered some potentially exciting news: The magazine may be giving away a walk-on role in VIEW ASKEW 5! Pretty cool ‘eh? We imagine it would be a non-speaking role but a role that you could pick yourself out in onscreen, and that Wizard would probably throw in an all-expenses paid trip to the set as well. Nothing’s for sure yet, but if it happens, you can bet you’ll hear about it at News Askew first.

View Askew Appearances In “Lex 2000”!

November 9th @ 4:02 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Kevin Meyers, Kevin & Hoser

  • As the comic book fans who read this site probably know, a storyline featuring Lex Luthor running for the President of the United States has been running in parallel with the real Presidential elections. Anyway, on the back page of Superman: Lex 2000 #1, now on sale now at your local comics shop, a couple familiar characters have their say (quotes) on the candidacy. Here’s a transcript:
Our intrepid “man” on the street, Lois Lane, ran into some familiar faces seen wandering around Metropolis recently and found out what people are saying about Lex Luthor running for President:

[Quotes from Bruce Campbell, Margot Kidder, and Richard Donner are here, followed by Kevin, Jay, and Silent Bob as follows:]

“Anyone but Bush.”
-KEVIN SMITH writer/director Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma

“Ain’t he that wrestler? I’d vote for him! I want more wrestlers in government, man. Put ‘em all in the steel cage, let ‘em fight it out, and the last guy standing is the President and gets to wear the belt.”
–JAY Local Herbivore, Red Bank, NJ

  • Douglas Fir’s HUGE Vulgarthon 2000 website is now online, and features almost 60 original photographs from the event. Be sure and check it out HERE (or visit our own Vulgarthon wrapup page for his pics as well as stories and pics from us and many others!)
  • DVDFile has printed a small piece on the Dogma DVD now that we’ve got a release date. Nothing really new here, we’ve covered this stuff for quite a while now, but here’s a nice summary of what’s to be expected. We’ll have more on this exciting disc very soon:
Double dose of ‘Dogma’

Well, for all you Kevin Smith fans that have been patiently waiting (and waiting) for that 2-disc Dogma special edition announced earlier this year (when the original movie-only version was announced), it seems your wait may almost be over. On 1/23, Columbia is planning to release this new version, with heavy involvement by Smith and cast, as well as producer JM Kenny, who produced the excellent Mallrats DVD. This new Dogma set includes a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer of the film and a 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack on disc one, along with a new audio commentary with Smith, Scott Mosier, Ben Affleck and “the two Jasons”, Mewes and Lee. Disc two features no less than 50 minutes of deleted scenes, an all-new documentary by Kenny on the film (also running nearly an hour), production notes, talent files and the trailer, along with “some other surprises.” Hmmm, I sense…Easter Eggs! With the same creative team behind Mallrats at the helm, this certainly sounds like a good set to be sure. (Controversy + Special Edition = Cool DVD!) Retail is $29.95.

  • Attention Jeff Anderson fans! If you’d like to see JEFF in a soon-to-be-released film before anyone else, you can go to PoyaPictures.com and order your copy of “LOVE 101.” Jeff plays PHIL, an alcoholic Resident Assistant, who’s job it is to watch over the other yahoos in a college dormitory. We’re expecting a screener shortly, and will present a review of the flick soon.
