A Few Things…
- Howdy folks. Just a few things to mention regarding some recent stuff on the site. First of all, the disappearing talkbacks problem. Unfortunately, it seems that when a particular talkback category gets too busy or full of posts, it just disappears totally from the server. We’re trying to bugfix it, but it’s tricky, especially since we didn’t write the software that runs the talkback portion of the site. We’ll see what we can do about it. It might also be a server problem but usually even that stuff can be fixed by reprogramming. The biggest pain is that the entire file vanishes, so all the great stuff that’s in there gets lost. We apologize for that.
Now, onto this whole “Which number in the series is J&SBSB” stuff. The Empire Online article made a mistake yesterday when it called the new flick the fourth in the series. As far as we’re concerned, this one’s number 5. However, the first three Jersey Trilogy films should stand on their own, since they were supposedly all in that “world”. Dogma stepped outside of that but not completely, since Jay & Silent Bob referenced the past flicks just by being there. The new film will do that AND incorporate tons of past characters (even from Dogma, we assume). For that reason, it really should be just considered “Kevin Smith’s fifth film” and not really labeled a part of a series. All the films can stand on their own quite nicely. We’re not sure if the author of that Empire piece was mistaken, or just skipped over Dogma. At any rate, hopefully that will settle some of that.
Today we’ve got some various stuff for ya…It’s been another quiet week regarding set reports but we assume Kevin will check in at some point soon to let us know how things went. Hopefully this week’s been as good as the past month. OK, then, let’s see what we’ve got today:
Dogma Nominated For “Nebula” Award!
- The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America have nominated Dogma for a Nebula Award. Kevin’s script goes up against “South Park:Bigger, Longer, and Uncut”, “The Green Mile”, “Galaxy Quest”, “Being John Malkovich”, and “Princess Mononoke”.He is only on the preliminary ballot, however the final ballot will be released in March 2001 and the winner will be announced at the 2001 Nebula Awards Weekend in Los Angeles on April 27-29, 2001. New Bluntman & Chronic Toys: Details From Toyfare!

Snootchie Bootchies! Two of the baddest burnouts ever to come out of Red Bank, N.J. are set to hit the toy world this August. Released just in time for the release of Kevin Smith’s newest-and final-View Askew universe flick, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Graphitti Designs’ Bluntman and Chronic figures will have a host of cool features. The stoned superheroes will have 16 points of articulation and rooted nylon hair, and will come with a bongload of paraphernalia, including marijuana leaf throwing stars, poop, a banana, a bongsaber, and an orangutan. And like their alter-go Jay and Silent Bob figures, the dealin’ dynamic duo will feature interchangeable hands. Nooch!
Jason Lee in Heartbreakers: First Look!
- Our scooper wasn’t supposed to really chat about the flick at all, but was fortunte enough to catch Jason Lee‘s next flick, “Heartbreakers”, starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sigourney Weaver. Lee plays the love interest of Hewitt’s character in this one. Anyway, he saw a 2+ hour print of this one, which is bound to be tightened up (as most comedies are), and summarizes what we saw for us below. He gives a high-level outline of what sounds to be at least the first half of the film, so if you want to go in cold, you may wanna skip this one. Personally, I never mind if these types of films get spoiled for me, but it’s your call. Check it out:
OK, here’s he scoop, as I’m sure you know, Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt play a mother-daughter con-team. Weaver marries a guy, Love Hewitt seduces him, get caught, and Weaver divorces, getting a good deal of money. The movie starts with a con, and after they finish with it, Love Hewitt tells Weaver she wants to go solo, which Weaver protests, but finally caves in to. They go to the bank to get the money so they can split it but the IRS has them for tax evasion and fraud; to pay it off, the IRS took all the money from their account, and they still need to pay off several thousand dollars. Weaver and Love Hewitt go off to Palm Beach, FL (the previous con was in NJ (woohoo!)) to get a new con so they can pay off the IRS and so that Love Hewitt can have some money to go solo with. Weaver chooses and old cigarette magnate played by Gene Hackman, but Love Hewitt wants to try for a momma’s boy doctor. During the set up meeting of Weaver and Hackman (at an auction house, complete with a hilarious statue..) Love Hewitt goes off to get the doctor. She finds him at a bar and meets Jason Lee (who was, by the way, my reason for seeing this movie…). She tells him off, which gives him a chance to use his oh-so perfect conversational-sarcasm technique which I so love. Anyway, her attempt to get the doctor fails and when she leaves, Lee pursues.
I don’t want to ruin too much of the movie, which, though I know it wil be cut down (run time was like 2 hours) was fabulous. March 23 people, you’ve got to see it. I did get to see a movie release schedule btw, and J+SB Strike Back is slotted into Aug 10, if you were looking for a confirmation on that date and judging by the schedule, this summer will be filled with great movies.

- The famous “stink-palm” gag gets a mention on Gamespy.com, a popular PC gaming website this week. PVP Online author Scott Kurtz composed this piece on the top ten clues as to Emperor Palpatine’s (of Star Wars fame) true identity. Brodie’s famous Mallrats trick gets a mention, and a picture, at number 2 on the list. The whole article’s fun, and can be checked out HERE.
- Fandom.com has printed an interview with the cast of the upcoming X-Files spin-off THE LONE GUNMEN. In it, there’s a brief mention made of View Askew:

- RTE 1, an Irish TV station, will be showing Chasing Amy next Wednesday, the 21st, at 9:35. Since most of the main video stores (Xtravision and Chartbusters) seem to have gotten rid of their Chasing Amy copies, this’ll be a good chance for those who haven’t seen it to catch it.
