- As some of you may know, it was ShoWest weekend, the HUGE film convention where a lot of new trailers, movie info, and other coolness happens. This year was a good one for Askew, as two cast members, Shannon Elizabeth and Chris Rock, were given awards. Here’s Michael, our scooper, with the latest from the convention:
Just came home from ShoWest this afternoon, and I wanted to give you the ShoWest scoop. The first attached image is the info on J&SBSB as it appeared in the Miramax 2001 release materials that were given out. The second is the poster for the flick that appeared on various walls for the first couple of days of the convention. I’m assuming this is just a very preliminary poster Miramax just slapped-together specifically for ShoWest; after all, it’s exceptionally plain and has that possessory credit that Kevin’s not too fond of. If you can’t read it, the text on the poster reads:
Someone is making their life story into a movie, and they haven’t been paid. So they’re on their way to Hollywood to get even.
Miramax didn’t screen an official product reel for their year’s releases, let alone any early J&SBSB footage; just two trailers and a nearly completed (some final FX tweaking still pending) cut of Spy Kids (good fun, but that’s another story).
In other Askew-related news at the event, as I’m sure you know, Shannon Elizabeth was NATO’s Female Star of Tomorrow and Chris Rock was Comedy Star of the Year. Shannon was obviously overcome with emotion as she accepted the first award she has ever received, as she put it. She thanked family and friends, but most of all her puppies, and she touched on her animal rescue charity.
The awards presentation order was strange, for Chris received his award last (you’d think Comedy Star of the Year would come before Male and Female Stars of the Year). In his acceptance, he echoed the sentiments of everyone in the crowd–or, rather, everyone who was left, for many had bailed early from the four-hour-plus dinner and show: “Isn’t this the longest fucking awards show ever?” Needless to say, that comment was met with hearty applause.
Shannon was one of the few awards recipients who stuck around until the end, and she very graciously signed autographs for and posed for pictures with attendees until security whisked her away against her will.
Seann William Scott also turned in appearance Wednesday night, showing up on stage with Evolution co-stars David Duchovny and Orlando Jones, director Ivan Reitman, and Jeffrey Katzenberg prior to the unveiling of the new trailer for that film.
