Actor Jason Lee is helping struggling artists by opening a gallery in Los Angeles, California, where new artists can work for free and get their paintings showcased when they’re finished. The Almost Famous star, who is a former professional skateboarder, says that he and his friends hope to open a gallery in downtown Los Angeles dedicated to fostering unknown talent. He says, “We’re basically going to renovate a loft, and find an up-and-coming painter who we’d rather not see ripped off by the galleries. He’ll get to use the studio space for free for six months. We’ll keep one of his paintings in the foundation’s permanent collections and help him sell the rest, then the cycle will continue with the next artist.”
