- According to the IMDB and Dark Horizons, Fletch Won has been given the greenlight (though we’re not totally sure on this as Kevin hasn’t spoken of it in quite some time). Still, here’s the report from Dark Horizons, where Chevy Chase again comes off as totally bitter about not being involved in the film, and again blames the young “people in their thirties”:
“Chevy Chase spoke at a Harvard College Institute of Politics event today, commenting on the effect of humor on politics.After convincing the student interviewer to do the “Salute of the Three Amigos” someone asked him about a Fletch sequel. “Yes,” he said, “it’s already in production, or so it seems.” Then he began to lament, “Hollywood is run by people in their thirties and they think I’m old…and they’re wrong!” (applause)
I’m not sure if this is new news, but Chevy Chase will not appear in any way in the Fletch film. They have told him that they don’t want him. He agrees, “When people see me they’ll think, hey, that’s Fletch. What could they do, make me his father?”
So we will have Ben Affleck (a choice that confounds Chevy because he feels that it is truly “his” character, himself even, and near impossible to duplicate) and no Chevy. Not even a cameo.
Incidentally, he said that “Dirty Work” “ate it” because they removed a sequence involving doughnuts and erections.”
Chevy really used to be a funny guy, lately he just seems to be a really bitter dude.

Even those who were at first antagonistic toward the new medium are now seeing the light. The most famous denunciation of DVDs, for instance, came when young director Kevin Smith (”Clerks” and “Dogma”) delivered a succinct and profane opinion on the 1998 laserdisc of his film “Chasing Amy.” By the time the movie was re-released on DVD, his views had changed. Which is why the DVD release includes a video clip on which he sheepishly recants his initial opinion: “If you hear somebody on the commentary track say ‘- – – – DVD,’ that ain’t me. I would never say bad things about a format that will probably last for years. It’s just crazy talk. When you hear it, just disregard it and don’t mention it ever again . . . please.”
