  • Will does it again, this time with high quality clips of Kevin’s appearance on Politically Incorrect last night. Yet again, you’ll need the RealPlayer to view these things, and have the choice of noth 56k and 150k. Look for stuff from the FX network stuff soon, as well as tomorrow’s Howard Stern, Daily Show, and TRL tomorrow! As always, News Askew is proud to be your web source for all the latest media appearances for Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back!

Aside: Will Ferrell’s appearance on The Late Show last night turned out to be a pretty poor plug for the flick, as it was mentioned only in passing and without a clip, sadly. Therefore, it’s not online. Believe us, you’re not missing anything. Will was funny as always, just not much of a promotion.

Finally, if you’d like to read along (or just read) a transcript of the PI appearance, you can access that online right HERE.

Film Threat: Wells vs. Smith Continues…

August 21st @ 6:29 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Luthien & Jeremy Bridges

  • For those of you who have been following the saga over the years, Film Threat writer Ron Wells continues to drag on the whole Kevin vs. Film Threat issue with his latest piece at Film Threat, which attempts to review the film but gets off on so many tangents we can’t even figure out which way he’s going with things. When he finally reviews the film, he seems to enjoy it and give it a begrudgingly good score. Go try and make heads or tails of the whole tirade HERE.

Wells seems to think that J&SBSB came out of his experiences and reviews of Kevin’s past stuff, and seems to completely miss the point that, if ANY similarity at all, the film is taking shots at the anonymous fans who post in areas like AICN’s Talkback section…They KEY word being ANONYMOUS. The flick doesn’t so much skewer the reviewers who put their names on their opinions, rather, the folks who hide behind surnames as they bash peoplke. So honestly, where exactly did Wells get the notion that the film came out of HIS particular reviews and comments? We’re not sure. Check out the piece and judge for yourself.

  • Check out this blurb from the IMDB on the new TV commercials for J&SBSB:
Faced with the dilemma of how to produce a TV commercial for a movie in which one of the two lead characters hardly utters a line that doesn’t include a four-letter word, Miramax/Dimension decided to produce special TV spots featuring the characters, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Monday). In one of the spots for Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, which opens on Friday, Jay, played by Jason Mewes, tells Silent Bob, played by Smith, that the movie has “hot chicks, jokes about getting it on, it’s got cursing.” In another, Jay replaces the four-letter words by saying “bleep,” then remarking, “I’m censoring myself. We’re on TV.”

And also from that site today:

“Saying that he had hoped that his appearance in Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back would have been treated as an uncredited cameo, Mark Hamill has expressed dismay that it is instead being used to promote the film in trailers and TV spots. “I really didn’t think people should know I’m in the movie,” Hamill told today’s (Tuesday) Calgary Sun. “I felt it should be a big surprise and one that not everyone would necessarily get. I’m in enough of a disguise that some people might wonder if it really is me or someone spoofing me.” But Smith told the newspaper that he had been a Star Wars fan since childhood and had wanted to work with Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford “from the day I dreamed of being a filmmaker.” (Fisher also appears in the movie; Ford does not.)”
  • The Marked Fool has set up a VERY NICE Character Guide to all the folks in the Askewniverse that appear in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. Surf over and check it out, or send folks there as a primer before they check out the new film if they’re behind on their Askew history.

  • Speaking of character guides, check out this new one that we’ll probably add to the summaries. It’s a View Askew character web that tracks all the relationships between characters over the first 4 films. Sure, there’s a TON of connections, but the color coding makes it simple to read and it seems fairly accurate as well. Check it out, it’s an interesting experiment.
  • A new interview with Mark Hamill on J&SBSB appears online HERE, courtesy Canada’s Canoe website.
  • We were unaware of this appearance, but Jon Stewart was on the Today show this morning, interviewed by Matt Lauer. He was there officially to promote Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but didn’t really talk about the movie too much, besides saying that he plays a fake newsman in it, much like he does on the daily show. One of his quotes went something like “Kevin Smith saw my tape and realized that I couldn’t act, so he decided to have me do what I already do” (fake anchorman). That about sums it up.
  • Want to catch the Afroman video on television? If you’ve got satellite or digial cable and Canadian music channel MuchMusic, you’re in luck. Last night, on “Ed’s Big Wham Bam” starring Ed the Sock, he mentioned that, even though “Because I Got High” has been banned in most countries, Much will still be playing it. In fact, they played it last night. Tune into the network (probably late night) to catch it.
  • Upcoming Movies have placed their page online for Kevin’s proposed next film on fatherhood. Our site will be forthcoming once the J&SBSB dust settles.
  • The August 20th edition of www.imdb.com has this article:
“Miramax movie boss Harvey Weinstein loves acting so much he begs directors to let him appear in their movies. Cult director Kevin Smith reveals the movie mogul is such a budding thespian he pesters directors to give him cameo roles in their movies. But when Smith finally relented, Weinstein turned down the offer to play himself in his latest flick Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. Dogma director Smith explains, “He’s been asking me to put him in one of his movies for years. “He’s an excellent gentleman, but so incredibly egocentric I thought he’d do it in a heartbeat.” Smith soon found out why Weinstein turned down the offer – he wanted a part alongside George Clooney in Steven Soderbergh’s latest film Oceans Eleven. Smith jokes, “Harvey’s kind of a starf***er. There’s me down here and Soderbergh and a cast of stars up there.””
  • Famous Players is hyping the upcoming release of J&SBSB, and have a Kevin Smith movie poll currently online.
  • One fan is having a promotional J&SBSB stunt at the Essex Green 9 in West Orange, NJ. He’s planning to stand out front of the theater all day this Friday, opening day, dressed as Silent Bob & smoking. He’s asking others to show up as View Askew characters for the film as well. If you’re planning to attend, maybe you wanna give it a try (assuming the cops don’t grab this guy before the film starts to roll).

  • And finally today…We doubt you’ll ever find a product like this on your shelves (but maybe they’ll consider it for the Clerks cartoon movie)…”Snoochie Boochies” cereal, “Now with bongs!”. Part of every growing kid’s nutritious breakfast. We’ll catch ya next time. Thanks to Eric Appel for the art.

Jay & Bob Hit The Cover Of “Star Wars Insider”!

August 21st @ 10:08 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Adam Lenhardt, Sebastian Boyle, E-Man, Matt Booker, Rob Shofner & Wild Karrde

  • It’s the holy grail for any Star Wars fan – According to starwars.com, Jay and Silent Bob will grace the cover of the next Star Wars Insider. In regards to View Askew goodness in the mag itself, the site says this:
“Fresh off his latest feature, the familiar sounding Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, Star Wars-fan Kevin Smith shares his askew views with the Insider’s Scott Chernoff. Smith may not say much in front of the camera, but that’s not the case in this interview. Insider #56 ships to subscribers and Official Star Wars Fan Club members around September 11th. It hits the newsstands on October 2. It’s a double-sided issue with a flip cover: on one side is a powerful duo known for dispensing justice and wisdom. The other side has Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon.”

Above, you’ll see what the cover is going to look like. Click to enlarge. Cool stuff. Lots, LOTS more news later…
