Kevin Stops By With Some Reviews…

August 24th @ 9:44 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Chris

  • Kevin stopped by the WWWBoard quickly to share some reviews for the new flick. The reviews are quite positive for the most part. But that’s enough from me, I’ll let Kevin do the honors…
…I’m free at last from the publicity tour. Many thanks to all the outlets (print, ‘net’, TV) who devoted space to our flick this week.

Onto the news…

Here’s a review round-up I received this morning, from papers across the country. Most folks work off the star rating system (*), but for those that don’t, it’s broken down to positive and negative.

For the curious…

Albany Gazette – Mixed to Positive
Arizona Daily Star – Positive

Austin American Statesman – Positive

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel – Mixed to Positive
Minneapolis Star Tribune – *** and a half
Newark Star Ledger – Positive

US Weekly – ***
USA Today – *** (God Bless Mike Clark)
Washington Post – Positive (from Desson Howe, and that’s all that matters)
Washington Times – *

There should be plenty more, but those are the ones I have handy.

Not bad, I say. Not bad at all. Even the reviews that aren’t kind point out that it’s a funny movie for somebody, if not them.

Well, except that one critic who wrote the review Ming linked below. Yipes – what an unhappy cuss.

I’ve gotta say, though – one of my favorite reviews was the 0 star Newsday review. Granted, it’s historic for us (our first!), but that’s not what does it for me. What does do it for me is the fact that it pointed out folks were applauding during the screening. Shit, that’s a classy admission for a critic who hated the movie.

Here at View Askew, even in defeat, we’re able to find a little victory.

So….

What the hell are you doing sitting here reading this? Get your ass to the nearest theater and go see ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’! Again!

And pray to your respective gods for a sweet opening weekend.

Me? I’m looking for ten to fifteen mill.

I think we can do it.

And a closing thought: most of the reviews I read (especially the negative ones) point out that this movie is for folks who liked our other movies. And that sentiment is correct. I made this movie for you guys as much as I did for me – probably more for you, actually. Please enjoy the flick, with my humble thanks. You put us where we are today – and I’m so very grateful for that every moment of my blessed life.

And now that this flick’s out of my hair, let’s spend some quality time together, shall we? It’s been too long.

And for the curious, you can check out that super-negative review right HERE.

The Final AICN Interview/J&SBSB Report!

August 24th @ 5:34 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Ash Skywatcher

  • Mysterio’s logged his final report with AICN. After covering the entire shoot of the film, and interviewing a ton of the cast and crew, he winds up with some parting thoughts and an excellent sit down with Ratface, who did some incredible production design on the flick. Here’s a preview, just a taste of all the inside jokes and stuff that are up on that screen (and reason to see the film again and again this weekend):
Ratface: Ok, well also in The Bluntcave you’ll see ‘The ROCKETEER’ jet pack is in there (next to the “Blunt saber”) – that’s the newest thing that’s in there, but some of the machines are older than that. There’s stuff from ‘BATMAN’ and things like that and all those labels, things Jay would say but in the ‘Batman”-style. In other scenes, there’s the diner in front of Vasquez Rocks called the “Arena Diner” from the ‘STAR TREK’ episode where Capt. Kirk fights the lizard monster; there’s things like, “Marshal Willenholly” from ‘LAND OF THE LOST’ and we decided to do “Sleestak” County, Utah on all the badges and police cars. There’s just things in every scene.

And then there’s ALSO Kevin’s stint with Bryant Gumbel on the CBS Early Show today. Thanks Will. Fire up your RealPlayer and check them out:

We have yet to hear a peep regarding an appearance on MTV’s TRL, though Kevin had HOPED to show up yesterday or today, we just have no confirmation on that. You may wanna watch just in case, though. We’re not sure which coast Kevin is on at this point…He probably doesn’t even know himself.

  • You guessed it…More articles on Kevin are out there today, including general news, interviews, and more.

Remember, we’re keeping articles seperate from reviews. All reviews must be posted over in the forums. Also, if you’re into reading just official critic reviews that came out in print, the place to go is Rotten Tomatoes. They’ve already got well over 50 reviews up. Our database has most of these as well, only mixed in with fan reviews also. Enjoy.

  • Cornell University is advertising that Kevin is coming to speak there on October 1st, as well as screen all of the first four movies in the weeks before the talk. There’s still no information about when tickets go on sale, how much they will be, and the like. In the meantime, there’s more information HERE. We’ll keep ya posted. As always, we highly recommend going to see Kevin speak. It’s an outstanding time.

  • In his latest e-mail newsletter, Mike Avon Oeming says:

Although Bluntman and Chronic are running late, the movie will be out this weekend, and if you look close, not only will you see my art, but even a special thanks from Kevin at the end. Very cool.

I’ve attached the inside of the J+Sb Soundtrack, which has some Blunt and Chronic art on it. I couldn’t fit it all, but here you go! Kevin also dropped my name there.

Here’s that art in case you’ve yet to see it. Good stuff.

  • Speaking of the comics, here’s Matt Wagner’s way cool Green Arrow cover. Looks nice.
  • Continuing on with the box office predictions: Box Office Report www.boxofficereport.com is predicting Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back to open up at number 1 with a weekend gross of 18.0 million. The Hollywood Reporter feels similar.
  • Rumor has it that Kevin MAY appear on the Mitch Albom show TODAY. This is a radio program out of Detroit (760 AM in Cleveland) that airs between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM. You can also catch the show on MSNBC from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
  • Shannon Elizabeth stopped by Jay Leno last night. We didn’t catch it as it was apparently a last minute change. If anyone wants to summarize the appearance, please send it on in.
  • Some comic news today: Wizard World posted this article on Kevin’s stint next year on The Brave and the Bold.
  • This website wickedcoolstuff.com is selling some pretty cool Bluntman and Chronic t-shirts, different the the stuff at the Stash, so we’re not sure how “official” it is, but you may wanna check it out.

  • Just a reminder, since we are continuing to get e-mail on these – Since it’s impossible to post all these reviews on the front page of News Askew, ANY and ALL J&SBSB reviews should be posted over in the News Askew Forums review area, and not sent in as scoops. Currently 216 reviews and counting over there. Thanks folks!
