Jersey Girl: Shots From The Set!

September 9th @ 10:19 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Dawn

  • You want Jersey Girl set pics? We got ‘em!!!! More pics than you can shake a stick at. Yessiree. Check out what Ollie’s (Affleck’s) house will look like from outside! The house itself is located in Paulsboro, and is drawing quite a crowd with its Christmas-like decor on it (pretty odd for the end of summertime). Here’s a report that came in along with all of these exclusive photos:
The first day I watched was the day they brought the baby home. I am enclosing a picture my cousin took of Ben Holding the movie baby. It was a real baby. The mother and father as well as a nurse were present and there were twins. When I got there they were filming the babies in a car seat in the back of the car ( a black BMW with NY tags)

I was surprised at all the work that the “background” people do. They made up the house to look older then it is by giving it dirty marks on it and put 2 fake Dormers (sp) on the top. They even kicked out a few spindles on the railing. The people that live on the block say that they are renting the house from a woman that was selling it ( someone famous used to live there along time ago but I forget who) They have a Madonna in the front that they put away every night in a shed out back. They planted bushes in front of the house and when I saw the baby scene, there were yellow flowers on them.

When I got there I found out that I had just missed Ben and decided to stay and watch because I have always wanted to see behind the “wizards curtain” at how they make movies. I was surprised at how many people it took and how much detail they put into it.

Then they were finished that scene and went into a scene where they were moving into the house. Ben and George Carlins doubles where there. People put suitcases in the car ( just for the shot they never even touched them) then they had a rental truck full of empty boxes with a crib and a couch in it. We watched the doubles move the crib out of the truck and up the stairs to the house a few times. Then all of a sudden George shows up. I don’t think he’s allowed to pose for pictures because I heard him tell someone only while he’s walking.

Then Ben was there (man they travel in a kick ass SUV) then Jen showed up a bit later to watch and then she left again (she wasn’t in the scene) they moved the crib out then the couch and that was it. Jen left quickly before they were done the shoot then Ben walks over and starts signing autographs and doing pictures He’s so sweet, he was picking up all the little kids and holding them.

Enjoy the photos!

JG: 4th Street Deli Photos & More!

September 9th @ 10:17 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Robert Getz

  • Feast your eyes, folks — The Inquirer’s got the first photos of an actual Jersey Girl scene! This scene took place at the famous 4th Street Deli last week
Famous 4th Street Deli is known for its cookies and corned beef – but canoodle?

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez worked into the wee-small hours of Friday, shooting a scene for the Kevin Smith movie Jersey Girl at the Queen Village landmark. It was their characters’ first date (in a Manhattan diner) and included a kiss. Between takes, though, Affleck and J. Lo could be seen getting along like a more established couple – hugging and smooching.

Affleck wore a conservative gray sports jacket, periwinkle-blue shirt and dark slacks. J. Lo, her hair short and curly, wore a sexy-yet-demure cream-colored dress. She was comfortable enough to eat fries.

They’d scooted from their trailers into Famous’ back door about 10:45 p.m, away from a knot of onlookers. They left before 2:30 a.m. No time for autographs. (Earlier Thursday, after shooting at the nearby Meredith School, Lopez obliged young fans.)

Production designer Robert “Ratface” Holtzman, a vet of Smith’s Chasing Amy and M. Night Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense, spent nearly all day Thursday with his crew to deck out Famous in Santas and menorahs for the scene, which is set around the holidays. (Fun fact: The last time Famous reached the big screen – in 1993’s Tom Hanks-Denzel Washington-Jonathan Demme hit Philadelphia – it, too, was a warm-weather shoot set in winter.)

Smith worked hard in an untucked baseball jersey, long shorts and sneakers.

Or, how about this take on the scene?

J.Lo, Ben light up the night at Famous 4th Street Deli

Christmas in September?

It was last night at 4th and Bainbridge as J.Lo, Ben Affleck and the crew of “Jersey Girl” took over the Famous 4th Street Deli.

On the windows were Hanukkah decals and inside were Christmas wreaths, so no need to guess when the scene takes place. Wonder why movies cost so much? More than four dozen members of the crew worked on setting the scene as they dined on roast beef, turkey, king crab legs and desserts galore in the production tent. As for the stars’ special requests, a Famous chef was asked to make french fries for Jennifer and chicken pot pies for Ben.

Finally Ben and Jen snuck into the side door of the deli from their trailers and began shooting. Affleck was dressed in an electric blue shirt with a tie and J.Lo wore a cream sleeveless slip dress.

A crowd of 150 or so fans waited outside the deli for hours to catch a glimpse, but the group had dwindled to around 50 diehards when shooting began after 11 p.m. This being Philly, at night, near South Street, toughs on motorbikes kept riding by trying to louse up the takes.

Thanks to the Inquirer for their continued detailed (almost TOO detailed) coverage!

  • In the Rotten Tomatoes website forums, they’re currently holding a tournament called “Battle of the 90’s” to determine the Best American movie of the 90’s. Clerks, Chasing Amy and Dogma are all included in this competition (along with 128 other films) shooting for the title of BEST AMERICAN MOVIE OF THE 90’s! Cast your votes HERE!
  • Wrestler Kevin Kelly had the following to say on the new Tom Green/Jason Lee film “Stealing Harvard” at his site today:
Poor Jason Lee. His character is torn between honoring a family commitment and making his girlfriend happy in the new movie “Stealing Harvard”. Yes, the man who saw his “Bluntman and Chronic” creation turned into a “90-minute long gay joke” in “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” returns along with Tom Green and Megan Mullally from “Will and Grace”.

Lee’s character needs to come up 30G’s to pay for his niece’s college education? What, she couldn’t find a nice community college to get into? Besides, she is just a niece. So what if your sister hates you? Just do like you did when you were eight and saw the heads off her Barbies if little sis gets wise. But I am here to let you know that there are a lot of comedic elements here that could make “Stealing Harvard” the sleeper of the fall movie season. Check it out!

  • And speaking of Lee, here’s a little anecdote from a brief article on Julia Stiles on Empire magazine’s web page:
While no toilet-orientated wisdom was on offer, Stiles also managed to learn a few things on the set of A Guy Thing, a film she’s recently finished work on. Playing a dancer who wakes up in bed with Jason Lee’s soon-to-be-married man the morning after his bachelor party, Stiles is in wholehearted agreement with Empire Online that Lee is one of the funniest men in movies. “Absolutely! I’d be at work at 5 o’clock in the morning after working all night. I’d be fading and he’d crack some joke and make me laugh. There’s actually a scene in the move where we’re talking and I burst out laughing, but me bursting out laughing is actually from him just making me laugh in one of the outtakes as opposed to me actually being in character. He’s hysterical – I stole all of his jokes and took them back to school with me and made everyone think I was really funny.”
  • Alright, while we’re talking Lee — Here’s today’s transcript of his MSN chat! It’s not too long, and even has a few questions Askew. Enjoy.
  • After 3 months of design and building, UK Askew is back on a nice new permanent server! Check out the new site athttp://www.ukaskew.com.
  • Until recently, the morning DJ for Radio 104 in Hartford, CT, and another station in Richmond, VA, was Dee Snider, former lead singer of Twisted Sister. On his show, he used MANY sound bites from Kevin’s movies. One of the guys on the show, Darkside Dave, used to use Chewbacca as his theme music. Recently, he was using Brodie’s “On that note, we cue themusic” a LOT. His show was just cancelled due to contract issues with Clear Channel. In his letter to the fans, he quotes “On that note, we cue the music.”
  • And finally tonight, on FOX’s “Street Magicians Revealed”, they revealed a trick about guessing a 2 digit number that has both odd #’s and they have to be different. The trick was that it was played by statistics and — Guess what — #37 is the number most people guess out of all of them. Perhaps “Clerks” indirectly played a part? See ya next time…

Jersey Girl Shoots At 4th Street Deli!

September 8th @ 6:44 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Robert Getz

  • The Inquirer had this caption under a new black & white shot of Affleck & Lopez on Friday — If anyone’s got a scan of that, send it in!
“Jersey Girl” comes to Queen Village as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez shoot a scene for the movie at Famous 4th Street Deli. Decorated with Santas and menorahs for a holiday-season setting, the deli, at Fourth and Bainbridge Streets in South Philadelphia, last night was the stand-in for a New York diner.

Holiday setting, eh? Another small piece of the puzzle is revealed. Though the film is spanning several years, we’re not sure exactly when the holiday scene(s) will take place.

  • In this week’s edition of Entertainment Weekly, Kevin is quoted as saying that he had the hots for “Sister Anne Louise in the third grade.” He also gets a very small nod in this article on Samurai Jack from EW.
  • Tonight, Comedy Central is running all four episodes of Contest Searchlight, the Project-Greenlight like parody show. If you missed the first part with Chasing Amy’s Dwight Ewell playing a contestant, you can catch it tonight. The mini-marathon starts at 8 PM EST.
  • We’re still staying away form the fear of getting addicted, but the Hollywood Stock Exchange is now trading Jersey Girl stock in their ongoing game. If you’re interested, get on over there and invest some virtual dollars, it’s free (but again, we warn, addictive!).
  • The flick “Comic Book Villains” has a Clerks reference in it within the first 10 minutes — A bunch of comic book geeks are hanging around a comic store, and one of the patrons has a black “Clerks” t-shirt on.
  • Those of you following what Brad Meltzer’s up to with Green Arrow now that Kevin’s left the book — Here’s a couple reviews of the newly-released issue #16 — HERE and HERE.
  • Jason Lee was spotted at the Beck show in LA the other night. The story with the mention is online right HERE.
  • IGN is running a poll you can titled “WHAT CANCELLED TV SERIES SHOULD GET A VIDEO GAME NEXT?”. Clerks: TAS is on the list and currently winning the poll. A Clerks video game sure would be a blast.
  • And finally, the OTHER film called “Jersey Girl” (the allegedly very BAD one from years back) is apparently airing later tonight on the BBC in the UK .

More From The Inquirer…

September 5th @ 9:57 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Robert Getz

  • As always, the Philadelphia Inquirer doesn’t disappoint today, with yet another update from the set of “Jersey Girl”:
“The streets of Paulsboro were never this clean. For hours on Tuesday, Ben Affleck sat atop a big blue street sweeper – “roll ‘em,” sweep-sweep, “cut!”… “roll ‘em,” sweep-sweep, “cut!” – to shoot scenes for Jersey Girl with pint-size actress Raquel Castro. What to make of Jennifer Lopez visiting the set again on her day off? Fans are happy, because she smiled and signed autographs. Perhaps she is affleckted while in her costar’s presence.”

As always, the story’s also at the Inquirer’s site.

Liv Tyler Records Song For “Jersey Girl”…

  • The New York Post reported this interesting little tidbit about Jersey Girl amongst their Daily Dish today:
Affleck and Aerosmith spawn Liv Tyler just recorded a song for “Jersey Girl,” which also stars Affleck’s girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez. A spy at Sigma Studios in Philadelphia tell us the pair “didn’t come in with attitude or an entourage.”

Let’s hope director Kevin Smith likes Tyler’s performance better than Woody Allen, who cut her musical cameo from “Everyone Says I Love You.”

  • Found any VULGAR easter eggs on the DVD yet? Here’s a hint — At the main menu, highlight the LIONS GATE logo and hit play. There’s a Dogma trailer on the disc somewhere as well. Happy huntin’!
  • Did anyone notice Jason Lee wearing a Clerks t-shirt during his interview segments for the “Stealing Harvard” Reel Comedy special on Comedy Central?

  • We’ve been getting so many mails on this for the past couple months, we figured we’d just run it finally – A cap from the popular tea/juice drink Sobe here runs little sayings under its caps, working its signature lizard in somehow — One of them reads “Jay & Silent Lizard”. Check it out above.

  • In trying to customize movie posters to appeal to computer geeks, Something Awful parodied Chasing Amy by calling it “Chasing Amiga”.
  • Lots of Matt Damon in the news today, oddly enough, even though he’s not promoting anything new here in the States, he’s doing quite a bit of press overseas. He’ll appeared on Johnny Vaughan’s chat show in the UK today, talks Bourne Identity in Empire UK and of course refuted that ridiculous Good Will Hunting 2 rumor, citing that what they did in “Jay & Bob” was enough. Dark Horizons quotes: “We did that on Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, and that’s as far as it’s gonna go. The first movie has a definite end.”
  • Kevin and the Eden Prarie mall are mentioned in the new book “A Year at the Movies”, written by former Mystery Science Theater 3000 cast member/writer, Kevin Murphy (a.k.a. Tom Servo). Kevin wrote a book about his experiences attending movies for a whole year and the book is absolutely hilarious. In week 9, Kevin mentions that he is seeing a film in the Eden Prarie mall which is where Mallrats was filmed (Murphy called the film a “disaster” though, sheesh we though the guy had taste!). He then goes on to mention that Kevin’s film, Chasing Amy, fit into a category of film titles like Saving Silverman and Finding Forrester.
  • The Vulgar DVD is now available in stores everywhere! A new review from JoBlo gives it a so-so rating of 6/10, citing O’Halloran’s performance as a highlight. A mixed review from Moviehole also was recently posted.
  • A group of high school students are planning to paint a bus with a View Askew theem, taking it on a US tour to Red Bank and other famous View Askew sites, then on a route across the country that matches the route Jay & Bob took in their final film. If you’re interested in learning more, drop them an e-mail HERE.
