- Want to see the Jersey Girl trailer in all its big screen glory? Then check out the Miramax release “Cold Mountain”, now in theaters. The Jersey Girl trailer is reportedly attached to all prints, though we’ve heard a few scattered stories of it not showing up. Chances are VERY good that you’ll see it though, so it’s worth the chance, plus “Cold Mountain” is winning awards and acclaim all over the place, so you can’t go wrong. Arrive early though, as you never know which order the trailer will show up, though if it’s attached directly to the print, you’ll likely see it just before the film starts. Enjoy!

Two Presents Left Under The Tree!
- Due to being away for the holidays, we’re a bit late on this, but better late than never — And hey, who doesn’t like to get a few presents AFTER Christmas? First off, you got probably the most infamous piece of animation that you’ve heard about, that Powerhouse animation footage done for the Clerks cartoon movie. Great stuff (not to mention the fact that it’s being more widely seen bodes well for the cartoon movie. THEN, you’ve got something totally out of left field, the HOSTIES animation realized! This little gem was meant to appear in Dogma and never got finished, now you can finally see the commercial as it was meant to be seen. Here’s Ming with the full report:
Happy Holidays from Kevin and all of us at View Askew. Your present for being so good this year? Read on:
Clerks Animated Feature Film Test Footage from Powerhouse Animation
This is the footage that was previously shown exclusively to Q&A attendees at the 2003 Wizard World Texas Convention. I’m not going to say any more than that. Watch it.
‘Hosties’ Animated Commercial
Those of you who read the ‘Dogma’ screenplay may remember this commercial which was in the script but never realized – until now.

- In case you were wondering about that very noticeable “Kevin Smith” credit on the Jersey Girl poster, here’s what Kevin had to say about his name being used in the publicity for the film:
He was.
I’m guessing Kevin didn’t OK this poster.
He okayed the image, but fought the inclusion of that line. Ultimately, he was told to “Grow up” by the chairman of the company, and had to settle for the removal of “A Film By…” in the credit block at the bottom of the poster.
I remember reading many places that Kevin Smith wouldn’t take a “film by” credit.
You remember correctly. And when I pointed this out, I was told “You have to accept the fact that, six films in, you are now a marketing tool as well.”
Kevin has indeed in the past (and obviously remains) against this type of marketing, only because he considers films a group effort by all those involved, from the actors all the way down the crew. However, in the end, the studio will make that call, and this time, they’ve opted to use Kevin’s body of work as a marketing tool in itself, which we’d say is a great compliment.
- And here’s a few more Affleck quotes to round out today’s update. In this Vancouver Sun story, Ben speaks very fondly of Jersey Girl, saying:
And from Canoe:
And finally, from the Chicago Sun-Times:
We’re right there with ya, Ben. Jersey Girl is definitely some of his best work to date, and Ben carries the film like a champ. We think you’ll all agree this March, and a lot of you will finally have that View Askew film that your parents can watch without complaining to ya about the language! Come back on Christmas for a little holiday treat from us here at News Askew and View Askew.

JG Poster: A New View Askew Logo?
- The Jersey Girl poster has already begun to show up in local theaters — So, if you’re in there to check out Return of the King or something this weekend, take a look at it — One viewer noticed the slick new View Askew Productions logo on the sheet — Which no longer uses Vulgar the clown but Jay & Bob in the center of the circle! Could this be the official new logo of View Askew? Check out the enlargement above.
Jersey Girl: Final Poster Art!
- The official Miramax Jersey Girl website has revealed the final poster art for the film, due in theaters on Friday, March 19, 2004. The official tagline: “He wanted it all…but he got more than he bargained for. A new comedy by Kevin Smith.” The one sheet features Ben and Raquel, and it’s nice to see that Kevin’s name is featured in the promotion as well. Here’s the synopsis for the film (some spoilers ahead):

Ollie Trinke (Ben Affleck) is at the top of his game. A Smooth, Manhattan music publicist, Ollie has just married the love of his life (Jennifer Lopez) and has a child on the way. It’s a perfect lie that is tragically upended when he suddenly finds himself a single father unqualified for his new role.
Before long Ollie’s big city lifestyle clashes head on with fatherhood. After losing his job, he’s forced to move back in with his father (George Carlin) in the New Jersey suburb where he was raised. With the help of a beautiful young friend (Liv Tyler) who opens him up to love again, and the daughter (Raquel Castro) who gives him the courage to keep going, he begins to realize that sometimes, you have to forget about what you thought you were and just accept who you are.
A dramatic comedy from writer/director, Kevin Smith, JERSEY GIRL reveals the honest, heartfelt and often amusing story about the man who wanted it all but got more than he bargained for.
