Commentary…

  • Howdy folks — Just thought we’d check in and say hi, hope you’re having a good week so far. It’s been a nice one here in the northeast, summer-like weather, as I’ve (Brad) just gotten back from Vegas it suits pretty well. Kudos to Chris for keeping things afloat solo whilst I was away — With Kev’s blog and the news and other goings-on, it’s tough to stay on top by yourself sometimes.

Vegas proved to be fantastic as always, I already miss the place. The flight out of Dulles on Independence Air (a new airline) was the best I’ve ever had. Look them up if you have the means. Managed to see that amazing boxing match that took place there over the weekend. Some were calling it one of the best fights of all time, and THE best in the last 10 years. Talk about luck. But hey, there’s plenty of great TV happening this month, with some season finales (LOST and 24, especially) that hold a ton of promise. And then there’s that movie hitting theaters sometime next week that some of us might be excited to see…

In the world of Askew, we’re back on track with some upcoming announcements — Site enhancements, more news, coverage of Kevin’s blog and of course, his major film role — Needless to say it’s going to be interesting ’round these parts. And hey, on a side note — Did anyone catch Affleck doing that Chris Moore impression while holding up the fake head on last week’s Greenlight? Holy cow. Could be one of the funniest bits ever. If you’re not watching that program, for goodness’ sake, start. We’re actually looking forward to seeing “Feast” now.

So alright then, let’s run down thru the latest excitement and see what we’ve got for you on this fine day:

May 11th @ 7:34 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Matt Booker

  • We gotta say, it’s way cool to see how involved Kevin’s been with the new Star Wars flick…And certainly intriguing when you think that those TV series plans gotta be getting drawn up soon. Anyway, a special edition of TRL on MTV airs Friday, May 13th, from the Skywalker Ranch. Here’s a tidbit or two:
TRL’s Star Wars special — airing on May 13th at 5:00 p.m. (ET/PT) — is hosted by MTV VJs Damien Fahey and La La Vasquez, and features a special performance by Good Charlotte, who are also passionate Star Wars fans.

…Invited guests will get an advance screening of Revenge of the Sith and MTV will be there to get their reaction and feedback.

Some of the invited celebrity guests include: Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), Seth Green (”Family Guy,” Italian Job), Danny Masterson (”That ’70s Show”), Topher Grace (”That ’70s Show”), Mila Kunis (”That ’70s Show”), Josh Schwartz (”The O.C.”), Peter Gallagher (”The O.C.”), Michael Rosenbaum (”Smallville”), Donald Faison (”Scrubs”), Jonathan Tucker (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ), Brendan Fehr (Final Destination), Macaulay Culkin (Saved), Orlando Jones (Runaway Jury , Office Space), Kevin Smith (Director and Silent Bob), Kathleen Robertson (Scary Movie 2) and more.

IMDB Scoops & Fun…

  • Sometime a run around the IMDB will give you some neat tidbits and fun mistakes. Here’s a quick rundown of some of our actor friends and what the database has reported regarding their upcoming projects:
An interesting sounding flick coming up with Jason Biggs. “Guy X”. Plot Outline: A dark comedy about the Vietnam War involving terminally wounded veterans held in a secret Arctic military base. Along with Biggs is the lovely and talented Natascha McElhorne (Ronin, Solaris) as well in the title role Micheal Ironside (Top Gun, Tortal Recall, Starship Troopers, and mort recently the voice of bad ass superspy Sam Fischer in the Splinter Cell series of games).

Some interesting casting in Affleck’s new rom-com “Man About Town” — of course everyone knew it had the lovely Rebecca Romijn, but also of course features Kal Penn (Superman Returns), but also Monty Python GENIUS John Cleese as well as tv comic icon Howard Hesseman. Adam “Hebrew Hammer” Goldberg (Dazed and Confused, Saving Private Ryan) also is part of the cast.

As for Affleck’s “Truth Justice and the American Way”, with Adrien Brody and the ever beautiful Diane Lane, also toss in Robin Tunny to round out a solid cast. What really sets this film apart aside from the true story aspect of old Hollywood is that prolific Soprano’s director Allen Coulter (who filmed some of the BEST shocker University, as well as the 3rd season’s strange FBI centric premiere “Mr. Rugerio’s Neighbohood”. Coluter is also helming HBO’s upcoming epic mini series “Rome”.

A FUN look at Mewes filmography shows him as being in the IN PRODUCTION “Green Hornet”, although no director or other stars are even announced. Is Mewes playing the Hornet?

  • Webmaster supreme Ming Chen got the 20 questions treatment from The Askew View in their new articles area. Askew View is the home of the every-growing Pixel Pound. We’re currently working thru a 20 Q’s of our own for the site. Should be done with it soon.
  • Seems Kevin’s unfinished (but coming soon, we’re told!) Spidey/Black Cat work gets referenced in the latest edition of web comic Spider-Fun.
  • Ex Star-Trek NG star and author Wil Wheaton gives Jay Mewes a kind shout-out in his blog for May 6th, regarding poker play. By the way, those poker tournys in Vegas? Tough business. Ouch.
  • We seem to recall the “Meow Mix” bar where that famous “Chasing Amy” scene was filmed came up during the 10th Anniversary Q&A — Now the joint is in the news again after closing back in 2004. The owner of that club’s opened up a new place , so perhaps if future lesbian bar scenes are needed in View Askew flicks, they can scout it out.
  • USA Today also took a cue and mentioned Kevin’s “Sith” review. Lots more folks have seen it by now, though Kev certainly was among the first — Alright, so HOW ABOUT US!?!? Hook some brothers up, eh? Anyone anyone?
  • Here’s a neat little tidbit — Footage of stunt work in Jay & Bob made it into a documentary…And it’s NOT ours! Here’s the report:
Sure now that “Teaparty” has been screened, JSBSB behind the scenes footage is fairly commonplace, but I was shocked to see some tonight in a documentary about Stuntwomen. The Doc is called “Double Dare” and it follows two stuntwomen. The older, established one is a woman by the name of Jeannie Epper and one of the first things she does is a brief stunt role in JSBSB. She is involved in the Miramax chase scene and goes crashing into a table when Jay and Bob bike past. It’s a great film and a real must watch for anyone interested in what really goes into the final product that we see in the theater. It will be playing the rest of this week at the Gene Siskle Theater in Chicago for anyone who is interested.

‘Til next time…
