Congrats Ben! Affleck & Garner Tie The Knot…

June 30th @ 5:13 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Donny Allemang, Michael Scaglioni, Lo Evans

  • Yahoo News has picked up an US Weekly story, reporting that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner married yesterday, at the Parrot Cay resort in the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos. No official confirmation yet, as this comes from the story:
Affleck’s publicist, Ken Sunshine, declined to confirm the report. “I do not comment on my clients’ personal lives,” he said. Garner’s rep, Nicole King, was not immediately available Thursday morning.

We have no confirmation as well, and the item has yet to be picked up by major news outlets, so we’ll be back later to confirm or deny the rumor. We’ll have more stories then for you, as well.

UPDATE: THIS JUST IN FROM CNN.COM:

NEW YORK (AP) — After months of speculation, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have tied the knot — and she’s pregnant.

Representatives for both Affleck and Garner confirmed the marriage to The Associated Press on Thursday. The publicists, Ken Sunshine and Nicole King, also for the first time confirmed that Garner is pregnant with her first child.

Sunshine and King would not give any other details.

The confirmation came after Us Weekly reported that Affleck, 32, and Garner, 33, were wed Wednesday at the Parrot Cay resort in the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos.

The National Enquirer also released photos they claimed showed Garner arriving on the islands.

Let us be among the first to wish Ben and Jennifer congratulations and a lifetime of happiness!

  • Joblo.com is running a feature on the ten funniest cameos ever — Jay and Silent Bob in Scream 3 and “Everybody” in JSBSB take 4th and 3rd place respectively.
4. Jay and Silent Bob in SCREAM 3 (2000)

As Craven’s final chapter slowly but surely slips into the giant pile of 90s horror mediocrity, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes show up for one last poke at pop culture. “Holy shit, Silent Bob, it’s that TV news-chick Connie f*cking Chung! Hey Connie, how’s Maury?”

3. Everybody in JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK

I know I need to get off Smith’s nut-sack but the use of cameos in this film are amazing. Will Ferrell, Jud Nelson, Carrie Fisher, Seann William Scott, John Stewart, Tracy Morgan, Chris Rock, Wes Craven, Shannon Doherty, Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek, Joey Lauren Adams, Matt Damon, and Mark Hamill just to name a few. Both Ben Affleck and Jason Lee cameo twice as two different characters. They’re all highlighted by the GOOD WILL HUNTING 2 scene and of course, George Carlin teaching them how to hitchhike (pictured above).

They also include a couple of great pics including Jay and Bob from Degrassi and George Carlin following the rules of the Book. Check it all out.

  • And speaking of Degrassi, Kevin gets a mention in the Wall Street Journal in a Degrassi article touting the program’s appeal to adults as well as teens:
…Some episodes are so controversial that the N has chosen not to air them in the U.S. Last season, the network pulled an episode in which a pregnant 15-year-old girl unapologetically gets an abortion. The network also edited out graphic scenes from an episode about a girl who intentionally cuts herself with the point of a protractor.

One adult fan of “Degrassi” is Kevin Smith, creator of the movie “Clerks,” who will guest star, at his own request, in the coming season. Mr. Smith will play a director who picks Degrassi High as the setting for his new movie, titled “Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh?” (Summer season begins Friday, 8 p.m. EDT.)

  • Reality TV junkies might have noticed the great John Pierson giving the new Real World cast their job assignments in this week’s episode (airing all the time, every day). The crew is set up in Austin this year and features a blonde nudeness-prone nymphomaniac. Okay, guys, NOW you wanna watch? We do assume it was the first and only appearance for Pierson in the season.
  • You can find more info on obtaining the DVD for “Double Dare”, the stuntwoman documentary that we mentioned has some behind the scenes J&SBSB stuff, HERE. You might be interested to know that the stuntwoman in those scenes also doubled Uma Thurman in “Kill Bill”.
  • Today’s “Word of the Day” on iwon.com seems to have been written by a fan:
TACITURN

Definition: silent, not talkative

Example: The clerk’s TACITURN nature earned him the nickname “Silent Bob.”

  • Find another View Askew screenshot in Invisibles Quiz #237 from Filmwise. We’re guessing the 37 made it a must.

Kevin Speaks! KROQ Phone-In Clip Ahead…

  • We gotta give props again to Will Wilkins, a.k.a. Silverlurker, for again proving he’s got some of the best connections in radio, nabbing us this clip from KROQ’s “Kevin and Bean” show. Kevin called in to throw some promotion towards the Degrassi DVD signing last weekend, and we’ve got crystal clear, complete audio for ya in that wonderful MP3 format. And as you know, Kevin can pimp like no other. Enjoy, folks.

  • Cinematical is now reporting that Mallrats X will hit DVD on September 20th. We’re guessing they got this from us, and WE got it from the story about the release of the Mallrats book. No other confirmation we’ve seen on that release date, but we’re hoping they stick to it.
Michael Rooker

Jason Lee

  • Horror fans, take note: Mallrats’ Michael Rooker is known in genre circles as the actor who played the title role in “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer”. This excellent, graphic film is one of the dude’s finest performances, and, we will warn you, WAY scarier than LaFours. Bloody-Disgusting reports:
Dark Sky Films will release Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer – 20th Anniversary Edition on September 27th, according to Davis DVD. The two-disc set will feature a brand new anamorphic transfer from a high definition master supervised by director John McNaughton, as well as restored Dolby Digital audio. Extras will include a commentary track with John McNaughton, a new full length documentary (featuring McNaughton, producer Steve Jones, cinematographer Charlie Lieberman, editor Elena Maganini, and actors Michael Rooker, Tom Towles and Tracy Arnold), a new documentary on real-life serial killer Henry Lee Lucas, storyboards and more. Retail is $24.98.

Do check it out when you can. It’s an excellent, chilling performance.

  • Comedy Central’s showing Dogma clips advertising their 4th of July weekend — So we’re expecting the film will air multiple times. In edited format, of course. Check your listings. It makes great background BBQ entertainment.
  • Another View Askew vet in a television series? Looks like Jay’s mommy dearest (Ever Carradine) is jumping back into the TV fray with a supporting role in the upcoming TV series, said to be for ABC, “Commander-In-Chief”. Geena Davis returns, again, to network TV. Davis plays the VP, though through the untimely death of the President, slides into the top spot.

Congrats to Scott Mosier On Academy Nom!

  • Kevin’s always said, and as fans we know, without Scott Mosier, there would BE no View Askew. No Clerks, no Dante & Randal, and no Jay & Bob.

So, when we read that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited Scott to become a member of their presitgious organization, we could only think: IT’S ABOUT TIME!

New members will be welcomed into the organization at an invitation-only reception on Wednesday, September 21, at the Academy’s Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills. We can only assume Scott will accept, though certainly realize it’s his decision. Regardless of that, we’re excited to see him recognized after over 10 years of service to the film community, and congratulate him on this honor.

Degrassi Signing Reminder…It’s Today!!!

  • As you saw above, we have an excellent, extensive new interview that Kevin recently did with About.com to promote the Degrassi: The Next Generation signing at the West Coast Stash that covers everything from Clerks2, Fletch Won, Ranger Danger, Episode III, Evening Harder and much more. Some tidbits:
Don’t you expect your usual crowd to show up because it’s you?

We’ll get some because it’s us but we haven’t really pumped it as our event. We’ve really hyped it as a Degrassi signing. And Mewes and I are there just because it’s our store, but the episodes in the box set that the kids are signing, Degrassi: Season Two are episodes that we weren’t even in. We just did the three episodes of Degrassi last season and that DVD will be coming out in November I think. We’ll do another signing for that, and Me and Mewes feature prominently. That DVD is called Jay and Silent Bob Do Degrassi and features the three episodes plus we did commentary track, there’s outtakes, all the stuff that we usually try to put on our DVDs. So I think there’ll be some cats coming for us but largely, based on the calls we’re getting at the store too, it’s people who are not familiar with our flicks, have never heard of our store but know about the Degrassi signing.

How late do you expect it to go?

I mean, it’s scheduled from 2:00 to 4:00 but we always try to get to everybody, so we’ll see. I mean, I can’t imagine that it will end at four o’clock. I think we’ll probably wind up going over.

You can read the entrie article right HERE!

And speaking of the Degassi in-store signing, DO NOT forget that it is being held later TODAY at 2pm at the West Coast Stash. Kevin and Jay will be joining Stacey Farber and Adamo Ruggiero at the store for an exclusive signing event to celebrate the release of Degarassi: TNG Season 2 on DVD. Make sure you send us your recaps of the event (or simply use this talkback if you attend). IESB will be covering the event and promises pics and video later tonight.

And finally, we’ll post Kevin’s radio interviews with ALICE and Kevin & Bean from yesterday as soon as we can get them. Working on nabbing those audio clips for you as we speak. Check back later for those and much more! Hope you’re having a fine weekend, and enjoy yourselves at the Stash today!

HUGE New Kev About.Com Interview!

June 25th @ 5:21 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Fred Topel

  • Yet again, about.com proves they are the champ of intriguing and extensive interviews with Kevin. This time, they sat down with him prior to today’s Degrassi event at Stash West, to talk about his love of the show, as well as all the other exciting projects that you’re dying for updates on. Here’s a sampling of the goodies:
You were really excited to begin Passion of the Clerks early this year. Has the whole Weinstein Company delay been frustrating?

It’s been a little weird. Thankfully the Catch and Release thing came along at a time where I could kind of move Clerks by a few months because nothing has settled completely in the aftermath of Harvey and Bob’s separation from Miramax. I mean, they’re still there until September 30th anyway, but we don’t really have any firm details on The Weinstein Company yet. He keeps saying we’re going, of course, and we intend to go. He’s financing Passion of the Clerks, but there’s no concrete infrastructure that they’ve revealed to us yet. I guess that’s what they’re putting together now. So the long and short of it is if there hadn’t been a fallout between Harvey and Bob and Disney, and everything was the way it was, say, a year or two ago, I probably wouldn’t have done Catch and Release. I probably would have just been shooting on Clerks. I would’ve had to pass on Catch and Release. But because things at that point were kind of up in the air, it just kind of gave me a few months to go off and try something different, to do the acting thing, knowing that Clerks was waiting for me when I get back. But being on this movie just makes me more anxious to shoot Clerks because it’s weird being on somebody else’s set and just doing this one function that I’ve done on my own movies, but I do so much more on my own flicks as well. So it’s weird just acting for somebody and not calling the shots, not deciding when a take is done or anything like that. It’s been a real education and kind of an interesting process, but it does make me amped to go shoot my own flick.

Will you direct the Star Wars TV series?

I don’t know, we’ll see.

Will you mention me in today’s diary entry?

Yes, of course. If I get to today’s. I’m about three weeks behind on the blog and that’s what I was just working on earlier. But yeah, when I get to today, of course. And won’t that be weird? You reading about yourself on the blog. It’s always a weird experience for some people because some people clam up around you and stuff. I get this a lot: “Don’t put this in your blog.” That’s become the mantra for the 21st century really. “Don’t put this in your blog. This is not for the blog.” And then you get some people who start telling you some intimate story and then they’re like, “Wait a second. I don’t want to tell you. You’re going to write about it.” To which I’m always like, “Fool, I don’t f*ckin’ write about your life. I write about my life.” So generally when I do stuff like that, when I talk about people I’ve spoken to, if they tell me stuff that’s very personal, I don’t put it in the f*ckin’ blog. And I hate calling it a f*ckin’ blog so let’s not.

What happens to Green Hornet now?

I don’t know. Green Hornet, I’m not sure where it is now. I don’t know if it went with Harvey and Bob or if it’s staying at Disney. But there’s a script out there and I guess whoever has it looks for a director next.

Is Zach Braff a lock for Fletch?

I guess. It depends. Hopefully, yeah, he’s in. We met, chatted about it. I got to get him a current draft of the script after I do some more work on it, bring the page count down a little bit. But he’d be a great choice and that’s who everyone’s leaning towards.

Of course, you ‘re required to read the whole thing, 5 pages of fun, starting right here. In it, Kevin reveals that there will be a “Jay & Silent Bob Do Degrassi” DVD with their 3 episodes and commentary in NOVEMBER!

  • There’s a good bit of trivia surrounding Dogma on the IMDB today:
This Oscar-winning actress turned down the role of God in Dogma, which later went to Alanis Morissette.

Anyone know the answer? We’ll give you a hint. The initials AREN’T E.T. Still give up? Click HERE.

  • Spot the slight Dogma reference in one of the photo captions of this “Seed of Chucky” review from horror supersite chud.com.
  • In the Will Smith flick “Hitch”, there’s a character some think be a reference to Allegra Coleman, a phantom superstar from the 90s. Interestingly enough, that name ties right into a Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back star. Wanna learn more? Read this interesting tidbit at the Museum of Hoaxes.
  • And finally today, was perhaps Brandi on to something when she was leaving her socks on “making whoopi”? Dutch scientists seem to think so. See you again soon! Thanks for dropping by today.
