  • We’ve got two fantastic new t-shirts now shipping from The Stash, sure to turn heads and start conversations anywhere you go. First up, the Brodie “Chocolate Covered Pretzel” shirt. The image comes from the Mallrats inaction figure blister card. Available in all sizes, $18 and it’s yours.

Also at that same price, Loki’s “Mass Genocide” t-shirt. A great quote, and again, that awesome blister card art, this time from the Dogma inaction line. Show your View Askew fandom AND love/hate for soccer in one simple gesture. Get ‘em today!

  • Dogma makes a list of controversial religious pics in this New York Daily News piece today. And it’s in good company, we must say.
  • If you had trouble with the larger filesize of that Vancouver radio bit with Kevin from late last week, a smaller version is now up, courtesy of Radio Askew.
  • Seems the View Askew influence has spread its way onto Australian reality television. Marx fills us in:
On tonight’s episode of Big Brother Uncut (Australia) a contestant Glenn after jokingly asking a fellow male housemate to give him a blowjob asked him to say “Oh what a lovely tea party” afterwards. Not that big a deal, but funny to see on free to air television nonetheless.

Blog Updates Continue…

July 5th @ 4:57 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin’s ripping through the blog updates now, with more days online, including the start of July, and the end of the month of June. The mysterious mid-June period remains unfilled, though we assume that there’s drama to be written and revealed there in the time to come (finding the right words for that might be tougher, or, Kevin may just have a lot he wants to write).

Summarizing the news, seems that all is well with Kevin, family, and friends, as the Vancouver filming experience continues. The Affleck situation, which COULD account for some of this drama, also seems to be under control, and doing better. And by the time this trip is over, we’re guessing Kevin will be hitting the professional Texas Hold’Em circuit with all the play he’s been getting in.

In movie news, here’s a tidbit on “Fletch Won” that caught our eye:

On the way back to the hotel, I call my agent Phil to talk about the future of “Fletch Won”. We’re kind of at an impasse with the flick, inasmuch as I see the flick as more of a straight adaptation of the book, and Harvey and the producer David List seem to want to make something closer to the Chevy Chase version, with more sight gags and disguises. I told Harvey I was gonna do another draft of the script and turn it in by the end of “Catch”, but after re-reading the script, there’s nothing I want to change. I see the flick along the lines of Soderbergh’s “Out of Sight”, but aside from me, Mos, Phil Benson, and Chris Moore (who, at one point, was in line to produce it with us), everybody else wants to do a version that’s more commercial. Chris Tucker’s name has been bandied about as Fletch on more than one occasion – which is all well and good, but I don’t have much interest in making that version of “Fletch Won.” Being told I couldn’t cast Jason Lee two years ago was hard enough, but now we’re at a point at which Harvey and I aren’t even on the same page in terms of tone or story-flow. So I tell Phil that I gotta go with the gut on this one and stick to my script, as-is. If they want to go another way, without me, I’ll understand.

Our opinion? We hope Kevin gets to make the flick he wants, with the cast he wants. Looking back at all the great casting choices Kevin has made, all the way to the start of his career, we’re hopeful this is a battle that he wins again. Could you imagine Clerks without O’Halloran and Anderson? Or an “Amy” without Affleck, Lee, and Adams? No way. We’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, it looks like it’ll be “Ranger Danger” following Clerks 2, for Dimension. And we’re DAMN cool with that, too. Especially if a casting rumor we heard a long, long time ago comes true…

New Stash Westwood Clippage!

July 5th @ 4:56 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Mattt Potter

  • Three more brilliant montages have gone up, courtesy of Mattt Potter and Movies Askew — These are the clip reels that you can see in person when attending Stash West. They run on those beautiful plasma televisions throughout the store. But hey, we figured, share the wealth! In case you’ve yet to pop into the joint for yourself (and shame on you, if that’s the case!), you can now watch them from the comfort of your own computer chair, in brilliant Quicktime.

The three new clips include two set to music, and one classic retelling of the Mallrats trailer in “Die Hard in a Mall” type of fashion. Brilliant work, all three, and all worth your valuable time.

“ALL YOU CAN EAT”
A crazy EATING compilation of all things Askew.
“GLORY OF LOVE”
Upon completing and sending this out to Papa Smith, he left a message on my machine saying “Mattt Potter I had no idea how gay you really are, you are truly a man after my own heart.” I took it as a compliment I guess.
“Mallrats : Die Hard in a Mall”
One of my favorite things I ever cut for View Askew. Some of you got to see this at Stash Bash, now all of you get to see it here.

Liv TylerClaire ForlaniShannon Elizabeth
  • Interesting history tidbit: You may have noticed that Liv Tyler was born today — BUT, ANOTHER View Askew leading lady, Claire Forlani, also celebrates another year on the planet today. Forlani was born in 1972, and Liv was born in ‘77.
  • One wedding, and now one divorce. CNN reports that Shannon Elizabeth (J&SBSB) and her husband of 3 years are divorcing. We wish them both the best.
  • We’re told this PodCast, “Comic Geek Speak”, which is also available in MP3 archived format, is run by some Askewniverse fans who reference the material almost daily.

Affleck & Garner Confirm Wedding, Baby…

July 1st @ 5:01 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Riss Wiebe, Jon Walsh

  • Personally, we don’t think “Garfleck” is near as catchy as “Bennifer”, but hey. Canada.com has a nice write-up with all the details over the big news of the Affleck/Garner wedding this week. Again, congratulations to the happy couple!
Ben and Jen jet away for wedding

During break from Garner’s shoot, couple also confirm baby on the way

It’s official! Jennifer Garner is pregnant and married.

The Alias star left the Squamish area with finance Ben Affleck Tuesday, sometime after finishing her scenes for the movie Catch and Release, and according to Us Weekly, the two were married late Wednesday at the Parrot Cay Resort in the tropical island group of Turks and Caicos. The 65-room resort bills itself as “the most exclusive hideaway in the Caribbean.”

While there had been widespread speculation that Garner was pregnant, with recent photos showing a decidedly prominent “bump,” the couple’s handlers only just fessed up to her condition yesterday when they confirmed the wedding.

Garner, 33, had spent Monday and Tuesday filming outdoor fishing and camping scenes in Squamish with Affleck, 32, at her side.

While many had speculated they would tie the knot this weekend –it was pretty much the only break in Garner’s busy Catch and Release schedule — no press sources had gotten wind of any preparations, and all sources on the set expressed surprise at the announcement.

It appears that nobody else from the film’s cast or crew were on hand, even though close friends like Kevin Smith and Chris Moore are involved in the Vancouver movie.

Smith is co-starring with Garner while Moore, who is Affeck’s partner in Project Greenlight, a reality series giving a chance to first-time filmmakers, is here with his wife Jenno Topping, a producer on Catch and Release.

Reports say, however, that Victor Garber, Garner’s co-star in Alias, was at the Parrot Cay service.

Garner, who arrived here in mid-May, has spent almost all of her down time in Vancouver, instead of commuting to her home in Los Angeles on weekends. Affleck has been on hand the majority of the time, since he (mostly) wrapped up his role in Truth, Justice and the American Way in Toronto in early June.

Other than one weekend trip to New York and two to Los Angeles, the celebrity A-listers have been hanging around Deep Cove, walking Martha Stewart (a yellow lab) in the park, checking out a few movies, dining on Granville Island and working out at a downtown gym. Garner’s also been known to catch a few rays (or maybe sprays) at a tanning salon while Affleck orders his usual iced coffee with sugar-free vanilla at a nearby Starbucks.

Garfleck even spent one Saturday afternoon at Wal-Mart.

“They were pushing a cart around just like everybody else,” marvels one observer.

Their purchases? A game of Scrabble and a case of Diet Coke.

Affeck’s life with Garner is obviously a far cry from his partying ways of days gone by. The handsome star, who has shot a number of films in Vancouver, including 1999’s Reindeer Games, Paycheck in 2003, and the yet-to-be-released Man About Town, previously had a well-publicized reputation of late-night partying at strip clubs.

An after-hours party with some of the exotic dancers from Brandi’s made headlines in the National Enquirer when Affleck was still engaged to former fiancee Jennifer Lopez.

Affleck and Garner, who first met when they filmed Daredevil in Los Angeles, started dating in Vancouver when Affleck came here to shoot a cameo in Elektra, Garner’s Daredevil spinoff. Garner had just split with Alias co-star Michael Vartan. The cameo was never used.

It’s Affleck’s first trip up the aisle, but it’s Garner’s second marriage. She divorced actor Scott Foley in 2003.

IMDB has also confirmed the story today.

Kevin Co-Hosts Vancouver Radio!

July 1st @ 5:00 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We’ve very pleased to have another audio gem for you to enjoy today, as we cruise into a nice, long holiday weekend here in the States — Kevin had a co-hosting gig on Zed 95.3 radio in Vancouver, as he took a break from the “Catch and Release” set to come in, talk about the movie, being on Degrassi, Garfleck, Canada, and lots more.

The clip is in high-quality 128 bit MP3 format, and around 15 megabytes in size (so those of you still on those barbaric dial-up connections might wanna grab a sandwich). The clip lasts for a little over 15 minutes. Enjoy, and if we don’t see you before, enjoy your 4th!
