Kevin’s Next Genre: HORROR!??!?!

August 6th @ 11:31 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Karla

  • We’re looking into this one as we speak, though it seems Kevin dropped a big scoop at a weekend Q&A session — His next flick will be a HORROR film! We’d expected a non Askewniverse romantic comedy, from earlier reports, though this may have changed. As soon as we get ANY more details, and can confirm (or deny) this, we’ll let you know. Certainly a very interesting and exciting development if it holds true. It’ll definitely represent a new venture and direction for Kevin, and we’re of course excited to see where he goes with it (let’s hope scary and violent as all get-out!). More on this soon!

Complete San Diego Q&A Video!

August 6th @ 11:30 am | No Comments » | Scooped by John Whiteaker

  • For the first time ever, Comic Book Resources have presented a full length Q&A session from the San Diego con on their website — And wouldn’t luck have it, it’s the complete Q&A from Kevin last weekend! Kevin was sadly delayed due to traffic, so the panel was pushed back to later in the day. So, if some of you missed it due to the scheduling change, or just weren’t there, here’s your chance to watch Kevin amuse the crowd as he takes on a variety of questions, both smart and really, really stupid.

As you can see from the uncut video, these things are always full of fun and surprises. Watch our upcoming events page for your own chance to catch Kevin live, and GO. You’ll have a blast. And of course, watch for Evening 2: Evening Harder on DVD this Fall.

(Editor’s note: If we forgot any scoopers on this story, we’re sorry. Let us know and we’ll get your credit. We lost our first post of this.)

  • The wonderful Rosario Dawson fills in for Kevin at ComicCon during his delay, sweetheart that she is. YouTube’s got the video, around ten minutes or so. A story above features the complete Kevin panel which happened later in the day.
  • Comic Book Resources recaps Kevin’s Wizard World Chicago panel from this weekend with a nice summary. Here’s a preview:
A straightforward “what’s next” led to a game of rock-paper-scissors to determine if Smith would reveal his upcoming project. Although the fan lost the match, Smith said that he would be making a horror film. Also, he is “nowhere close” to completing “Daredevil: Target,” of which only one issue was released back in 2002. Smith said that if he returned to the project, there would likely be a “reboot” of issue 1, since the original features an image of the World Trade Center as rubble and the site no longer resembles the story art.

There was a question about Smith’s appearance on “Ebert and Roeper.” Smith said that the episode taped Friday morning, and will air next weekend. The movies covered are “World Trade Center,” “Half Nelson,” “Scoop,” and “Step Up,” but Smith said he cannot comment on the reviews until the episode is shown.

  • Ethan Suplee has joined the cast of NBC’s “The Year Without a Santa Claus,” which stars John Goodman, Delta Burke, Chris Kattan, Harvey Fierstein, Michael McKean Eddie Griffin and Carol Kane. The two-hour movie, based on the 1974 Rankin-Bass perennial that featured stop-motion animation, will air during the upcoming 2006 holiday season.
  • Amazon now confirms that a new book IS coming next year: “In-Convenience: The View Askewniverse From Clerks To Clerks II” collects all of the Kevin Smith film scripts for the first time ever, together with numerous photos. We’ll have a great deal on signed copies from the Stash when this arrives next year, and let you know when they’re ready for pre-order from us.
  • We’ve broke into a new magazine — From the August 7, 2006 issue of Business Week, this blurb appears:
On The Set — Call them blogbusters. Video diaries made by directors or actors on a movie set have consistently been on iTunes’ most-downloaded list this summer. Some of these moviemaking video journals remain on the site’s top 100 list even after the movies are released. Among the latest entries: Actor Jack Black’s videoblog about the making of Nacho Libre (which he also produced) and Zach Braff’s videotaped diary about The Last Kiss, the upcoming DreamWorks comedy in which he stars. Director Kevin Smith pumped out 75 video posts about the making of Clerks II. They got 3 million downloads before the movie came out on July 21.

The text also included a picture of a video iPod showing a scene with Kevin and Jason talking.

  • Catch some glimpses of Affleck in the “Smoking Aces” trailer over at The Movie Box. Catch you again soon! Hope you’re having a fine weekend.
