- An incredibly flattering three star review of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back appears in the September 2001 Premiere magazine. The reviewer exclaims “I laughed until my face hurt†(a very good quote for marketing material, we’d say), and goes on to say, “I, for one, wouldn’t mind another Jay and Silent Bob movie – or fourâ€. A ringing endoresement from a very widely read film magazine! Here’s a clip:
Clearly, Smith’s been having a problem shaking these characters. Remember back in the day, when Clerks, Mallrats, and Amy were supposed to have been Smith’s “Jersey†trilogy? Well, now we’re on film number five, and those two Jersey boys–played by the almost preternaturally obnixious Jason Mewes and Smith himself–are now the title characters. But that’s okay–this is really, really, really the last time. Or so Smith assures us: He’s conceived Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back as a kind of purgative, a way to get these guys out of his system. So, unlike Amy and Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back has no brief, except to be as funny as humanly possible. Which it is.
Alas, we’ve just got scans of the 2 page review, and an additional page of a short Q&A session with Kevin as well. You’ll need to click the thumbnails above, enlarge them, and read them that way. They’re quite good though, don’t pass them by! If anyone wants to transcribe the Premiere review for the Reviews section at the Forums, please do.
