- It looks like the popularity of the movie and the desire for more visibility has changed plans for the Bluntman & Chronic comic that was scheduled for this summer – It’s now going to be a graphic novel! This will make the book available not only in comic shops, but in bookstores across the country. The book should tie directly into the film, and provide those who read it beforehand some background and maybe even the inside track on some jokes and material in “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back”. Here’s the full story, courtesy of Comics Continuum:
Bluntman and Chronic, the upcoming Image Comics title from Kevin Smith, has been changed from a three-issue mini-series into a self-contained graphic novel.
Anthony Bozzi, Image’s marketing director, told The Continuum that the book, written by Smith and drawn by Michael Avon Oeming, will reach stores to coincide with the Aug. 10 release of Smith’s new movie, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
“We wanted it out for the film and we wanted to get it to the mass market and bring more people into comics,” Bozzi said. “So we’re popping a photo cover on it and getting into book stores.”
Bluntman and Chronic was the name of the comic book that the characters Holden McNeil and Banky Edwards created in Smith’s Chasing Amy movie. They were created as the alter egos for Jay and Silent Bob.
Before Bluntman and Chronic, Image will publish two other View Askew trade paperbacks, Chasing Dogma and Clerks. Both will have photo covers.
In a related story, a News Askew reader was at a convention at Valley Forge over the weekend, and ran into B&C artist Michael Avon Oeming. He asked for a sketch of the duo, and here’s how it turned out (click the thumbnail for a bigger picture). The guys are looking cooler than ever.
