- When asked a question about the way cool new Fight Club DVD (A great DVD and a fantastic flick, see it), Vincent dropped some big details on the upcoming Dogma Special Edition DVD. Check it out!
The “FIGHT CLUB†DVD is indeed a great DVD of a great film. The “DOGMA†S.E. DVD will be at least as good, but different. It won’t be as “interactive†and tech oriented as FIGHT CLUB, but that’s the nature of the beast- David Fincher is intrinsically a very technically oriented filmmaker, and that comes through in the focus of this DVD- there’s tons of really cool techie material on how the effects were done, etc. Kevin has always been more about what the material MEANS, the that’ll be the focus of the “DOGMA†DVD- the meaning of the film, and the controversy surrounding it’s release. This is the way to approach DVD special editions in my book- each film is different and should be approached differently. A highly technical film made by a great filmmaker like David Fincher should be approached from a largely technical standpoint, whereas someone like Kevin who is more about the ideas shouldn’t neccessarily be approached that way when it comes to one of his flicks hitting DVD.
Right now, we’ve got a 40-minute (approx.) documentary (focusing largely on the controversy), two commentary tracks (one with visual clips like MALLRATS), nearly 100-minutes worth of deleted and extended scenes, an odds-and-ends “bloopers†clip reel, Scott Mosier’s storyboards for the action sequences, and several other goodies that we’re still working on. Belive me, this mother is going to be bursting at the seams.
