  • Check out this article on the stunning, lifelike portrait of daughter Harley that Kevin commissioned to be painted. Kevin poses with the masterpiece and gives a few quotes about it. Click above for a closer look and to read the article.
  • We’ve seen so many photos from all the recent events, that it’s tough to find a home to share them all — Or WAS! Introducting the Askew View Pixel Pound, where all your View Askew pics can find a home! Surf over, register, and share your pics with the world (well, all of the fans, anyway). We dig the site and think it’s a spectacular idea. In this digital age with folks snapping a mile a minute, this is the perfect way to organize and keep up.
  • Director Steve James came to the Lake County Film Festival, where his “Reel Paradise” (produced by Kevin and Scott) closed the festival. While answering about 45 minutes of quesitons, he revealed that they were in “negotiations” to get the film shown on cable. Given the Miramax shakeup, we should be happy about any release at all, though it would seem odd to be watching a movie about a movie theatre on television. Cable television seems to be fast becoming the new independent cinema.
  • Another tidbit that we lost last week but might be some fairly cool news, should it come to fruition: Kevin hinted that his Degrassi arc might come to DVD this Fall, after it airs Stateside. We imagine it’d be released in Canada, though shouldn’t be tough to get here. We’ll keep you posted.
  • Check out the word bubble coming out of JoBlo’s head on the homepage today.
  • And finally today: Hey, who’s to say our news doesn’t cause ripples on the web? Box Office Prophets’ report on Mewes’ new flick is mixed, but reveals that our mentioning of their black and white poll (which included “Clerks”) caused you to vote for the film and push it to the top:
BOP’s mood is best described as conflicted as we report the following news. Blue Collar Films, the production company of Paul Walker (yikes!), has cast Paris Hilton (egads!) and Jason Mewes (woohoo!) as the leads in the upcoming bartender comedy, Bottoms Up. Our beloved Mewes is best known as Kevin Smith AKA Silent Bob’s sidekick, Jay, from the Clerks movies. Fans of these movies are so passionate that they pulled a Veronica Mars the other day when the folks at News Askew hinted that they could ballot stuff our front page poll. And it worked. Take that, Schindler’s List! Anyway, Mewes, just promise us you’ll wear condoms, dude. That not-so-forbidden fruit of hers has long since turned sour.
