- We just wanted to remind all you midwesterners out there that Kevin will be appearing at the Raue Center For The Arts in Crystal Lake, IL tomorrow night. The day will kick off with a 3pm screening of CLERKS, followed by a great Q&A session from Kevin at 7pm. Both the Northwest Herald and the Courier News ran some good ink on the upcoming show and even came up with some questions you could ask Kevin if you can’t think of any on your own. Don’t forget to send in your stories and photos for us to post right here. It should be a great night for all in attendance!

THIS JUST IN:
The official word on cameras at the Red Bank Q&A
I just talked to the head guy over at the Count Basie theatre about their camera and recording devices policy.
Still cameras and Flash Photography WILL BE ALLOWED at the Q&A. So if you want to snap STILL PHOTOS feel free as long as you don’t disturb anyone else’s enjoyment of the show.
VIDEO AND ANY OTHER RECORDING DEVICES WILL NOT be permitted during the show and anyone caught recording or videotaping (whether it be on a camcorder, dv camera, cell phone with video feature, or any audio recording device, etc) will be ejected without a refund. There will be Count Basie Staff looking for anyone breaking this policy so don’t even think about it.
April Fools 2005…
- Well by now we assume most of you have seen Askewoogle, our 2005 April Fools page for the year. It was actually made to mark the day, but also as a test run and an announcement of our upcoming search engine. It’ll allow you to search ALL the archived news at News Askew, on a story by story basis. Kinda neat.
We had some server issues due to so many searches happening at once today (naturally) but will be testing with the engine again soon, to see if the site runs okay with only occasional searches going on. We have a backup plan, a less feature-rich search (the one you saw if you came on after 12 PM EST on Friday), which will serve as backup. BUT, the big news is, Search WILL be back at News Askew, and better than ever.
Hope you enjoyed this year’s pages. And if you’re new, click below to see previous editions of our April Fool.

- As usual on the web, we weren’t the only ones playing fools on Friday. Movieweb ran a story on Affleck’s involvement in a movie based on a popular TV series. Sadly enough, we’d probably pay to see it.
- The Empire website has updated with a couple of new shots, one especially good one of Kevin and Jay. Click above.
- This week’s Entertainment Weekly has a cover story on “Fever Pitch” where they ask Johnny Damon (due to his resemblance to a certain religious icon) what his favorite religious movie is – “‘Oh, wow. Well I definitely thought Dogma was funny, but that was sort of an anti-religious movie wasn’t it?’ he asks. “I didn’t really enjoy The Passion of the Christ. There was too much torture in it for me.’”
- Keep you eyes peeled for Japanese “Jersey Girl” coverage. The film’s finally made it over there, so we’re watching for press, reviews, etc. It’s always interesting to see what other cultures think of the films.
- Evidence that the B.C. is still travelling — Photos from the Maroon 5 concert in Norfolk,VA confirm that the statue is still on tour with the band.
Press Onslaught!
- We’ve got a bunch of press articles today on Kevin’s upcoming can’t-miss Q&A’s for ya, so we figured we’d just give them a headline, toss some cool quotes of your way, and let you click away at ‘em one by one. Let’s get started:
“…We’re calling it “Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks,” and we’re seeing how long we can get away with it before somebody from Mel Gibson’s office drops us a cease-and-desist letter. We start shooting in, it looks like, May. And then the dream is to take it to Sundance to debut it — because (the original) “Clerks” debuted up in Sundance back in January of ‘94 — and then go out in theaters early 2006.”
NorthJersey.com – “Kevin Smith won’t skimp with the fans”
Q. Why do a sequel to “Clerks?”
I would just love to see what [characters] Dante and Randall would be up to today. It’s going to be a lot of fun since it’ll be different from the type of films I’ve made recently. With “Jersey Girl” I burned out on making movies with big, famous people. That can come back and bite you if two of your stars date and then break up.
Q. So, are you saying that you won’t work with your pal Ben Affleck anytime soon?
No, I would work with Ben in a heartbeat. I just wouldn’t cast whomever Ben is dating at the time. [Laughs]
Q. So if the opportunity to work with Jennifer Garner came up…
I would work with Jennifer Garner but not with Ben Affleck. I wouldn’t put those two in a movie for fear that they would break up. I’m not going through that hell again.
Q. What’s the sequel to “Clerks” about?
What happens when an angry young man turns 35. You can’t be really angry anymore – well, you can still be angry, but you can’t be young. It’s not nearly as cool.
Courier News Online: “April Fool: Not-So-Silent Bob coming to the Raue”
“…I still can’t figure out the infatuation with celebrities. I guess it marks the time before death, but usually there is no good information. What was weird was I became the go-to person. People, Us, the Star were all calling me about him. It’s not like I sleep with him,” said Smith. “But it’s to the point where all you have to do is (what Paris Hilton did on a tape that first surfaced in the Internet) and you’re famous.””
Courier News Online: “Ask Him Yourself: Questions For Kevin Smith”
“Filmmaker Kevin Smith, who will hold court at the Raue Center Sunday night, said there are no stupid questions. Well there are, but those often lead to some of the better exchanges. And he’s at the mercy of his work, so, yes he’s been asked if he can has tried to perform a certain contortion that made for one of the best bits in Clerks. But if you are heading to the chat and can’t think of anything from our interview, here are some suggestions, some sublime, mostly silly, and maybe enough to kill four hours…”
See you in Red Bank: Tomorrow. Don’t miss the big homecoming appearance.
Audio: Kevin w/ Miller, Rodriguez…
- Kevin’s interview with Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller about the INCREDIBLE Sin City is now online. It was conducted for NPR where it aired today. You can listed to the complete audio via the link at the top of THIS PAGE . The piece runs almost a full hour, and is extended further from what aired on this morning’s edition. It proves that Kevin not only makes quite the interviewee, but an astute interviewER as well. Enjoy.
By the way: Kevin’s Miramax Films get a very prominent plug in the literature and on the DVD that Best Buy is giving out to promote SIN CITY.
