Save Raquel Castro!

June 24th @ 3:38 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • As our readers/followers are likely aware of by now, “Jersey Girl” star Raquel Castro is now a star on NBC’s hit summer series “The Voice”. The program features singers who were chosen based solely on their voice, and are now coached by one of 4 celebrity mentors. Castro is a member of Christina Aguilera’s team, and survived an early battle round against another female singer. This past Monday, she kicked off the show with a rockin’ performance of Ke$ha’s “Blow”, which had Aguilera out of her chair with excitement.

Now, it’s the audience’s turn to help their favorites move through the competition. Since Monday’s show, fans have been able to vote for a “save”. Of the 4 members of each celebrity team, one will be given the “audience save” which is determined by the top number of votes from the public. Another of the 4 will be saved by their mentor. The remaining 2 will go home. While we’re fairly certain that Christina would love to see Raquel continue on, and would save her as well, we’d love for the audience to choose her as the fave. So here’s how you can do it, all the way up until 10 AM this Monday morning, EST:

You can vote up to 10 times per voting method (though we’re assuming you’re not going to download the song 10 times, you can, and have it count). Calls and web-based votes are simple and should only take you a few minutes. News Askew is a proud supporter of Team Raquel, and hope to see her move forward in the competition, which has topped the summer television rankings this year. Good luck!

Learn more about Raquel and hear from her directly at her new official site, raquelcastro.com.

  • The new “Pawn Stars for comic book geeks” TV show, starring Wall Flanagan and Bryan Johnson, based in Red Bank’s Secret Stash, has been attached to the AMC network, home of “Breaking Bad”, “Mad Men”, “The Killing” and “The Walking Dead”. The Hollywood Reporter has a few more details.
  • Visit the new official site of “Jersey Girl”, and now “The Voice” star Raquel Castro, http://raquelcastro.com. Don’t forget, voting for her performance runs all the way through this Monday morning at 10 AM, so don’t forget to download her performance, or call or text your votes, to keep her in the competition for another week. We’re expecting her to reach the finals! TO VOTE PLEASE CALL 1-855-(VOICE-01(864-2301) OR VISIT www.nbc.com.
  • Kevin recently hinted he might return to the world of publishing with a new book. No further details yet regarding a topic or theme, but stay tuned. We know that plans are afoot for the “Hit Somebody” script to arrive in chunks for purchase later this summer, but we have a feeling this is something totally different.
  • The free tickets for the the first SMoviola, “Valley Girl”, were gone in mere minutes, though here’s some deets on the event which goes down this Saturday, June 11th, at 7:00 PM at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York. Kevin will moderate a Q&A including the director and other special guests (we believe star Deborah Foreman will be there!) right after the film. Don’t have tickets? Stand by in line 30 minutes before the film and you still might get in. More films on the SMoviola series on the way.

Raquel Castro Rocks “The Voice” – Vote Now!

June 13th @ 12:23 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • “Jersey Girl” Raquel Castro rocked the stage tonight, kicking off as the first contestant (ever!) on the live edition of NBC’s “The Voice”. For the first time, fans now have the ability to vote for their favorite contestants (8 of whom sang on Tuesday night).

Here’s how the voting works: This week, all 4 members of Aguilera’s team performed — Of the four, only two of them will make it into the next round. One of them will be voted in by the people (that’s you). The other will be voted in by the judges. Her performance was fantastic tonight, so we’re thinking her chances of making the next round are fantastic.

You have all week to vote (until Monday) and can do it by downloading Raquel’s song on iTunes, calling in, or texting.

EXCLUSIVE! “Jersey Girl” Raquel Castro to Compete on NBC’s “The Voice”!

April 26th @ 9:10 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • News Askew has just learned that the titular “Jersey Girl” from the film, Raquel Castro, will compete on NBC’s new talent show “The Voice”. This singing competition features judges who first hear a singer’s voice before knowing anything about them (age, look, background, etc). The show premieres on NBC on April 26th. As some taping has already been done, we’re unable to know/reveal how far Raquel goes at this point, but encourage fans to tune in and cheer her on.

Take a look at this new promo for the show and catch a glimpse of her at the 3:18 mark along with what looks like some extremely positive feedback.

In the meantime, you can also show your early support for her by checking out her new (unofficial) “The Voice” fan page. Go Raquel!

  • While the entire interview has yet to surface, you can catch a portion of Kevin’s recent appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan program online. Take a look at a couple video links ahead:

  • Kevin goes “Up Close and Personal” with host Kim Masters to promote this month’s “Red State” tour. You can now listen to the entire broadcast, recorded on Monday this week, via that site. The runtime is almost two full hours with very few edits, and covers a ton more than just “Red State”, so don’t miss it.
  • What’s Jersey Girl’s Raquel Castro up to these days? Singing just as good if not better as those chicks on American Idol, that’s for sure. Check out this brand new video of her covering Selena’s “Amor Prohibido”.
  • We’ve just received new word on the film “Breath of Hate”, starring Jason Mewes. We reported on this last year, but now have learned that following a sneak preview at the GoreZone Film festival in London, which played to a packed house, they are finishing up the 5.1 mix, signing some musicians for songs and sending the film out to distributors. The creators also sent us some new poster art, which you can check out above.
  • Assignment Chicago shares a never-used shot of Kevin taken during an interview a couple years back.
  • Don’t forget! The RED STATE USA TOUR kicks off in NYC on SATURDAY, then goes to Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, AnnArbor & Indy! http://coopersdell.com/ for tickets — Get to a show this month, your only chances in the US to see the movie AND Kevin in person this year.
