- Some quickies from the board – Kevin reports that “the marketing folks are working hard to have a Red Band trailer for ComiCon” when asked about an official trailer for the film. It’s long been desired that the trailer get tied to “Pineapple Express” which hits theaters on August 8th.
- Next, sad news on the hopes for seeing the extended, and we feel, quite superior director’s cut of Jersey Girl on DVD. When a poster cited money reasons, Kevin corrected:
“Not so. It’s unlikely to see DVD because Buena Vista Home Video wasn’t interested in doing it upon the initial release of the flick on home video, and then really wasn’t interested in doing it once the Harvey/Bob/Miramax/Disney breakup happened. Cost doesn’t have anything to do with it; it’s pure spite, at this point. So weird.”
Those of you who watched it with us at Vulgarthon West know what folks are missing with this one, as the extended cut added quite a bit of richness to the story, especially with the Ben/Jen relationship, sadly lost to the cutting room floor in theatrical and DVD releases. Here’s hoping Kevin dusts this one off once again for the rumored 2009 Vulgarthon event. - Seth Rogen appeared on popular Australian talk show Rove to promote “Pineapple Express” — You can watch the entire 9+ minute clip via the magic of YouTube. Just a brief mention of “Zack & Miri Make A Porno” as an uncoming project (though we’re expecting the BIG press blitz to begin this September).
- The Stash doesn’t sell this item, so here’s a chance to get a rare View Askew item locally – Our scooper caught the hard to find “Clerks II” Mooby box DVD set that includes the visor, cup, and the movie, all in a happy meal type case. This was at Best Buy in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. The item was a Best Buy exclusive. The price there was just $12.99, an absolute bargain — While we don’t expect this deal is nationwide, someone likely found a case of the long sold-out edition and put it out there, it’s worth seeking out. What a deal.

- Stephen Silver, our friend who designed “Clerks: The Cartoon” and those sweet as hell Clerks InAction Figures that tower above me here at the news desk, will design the characters for an animated movie called “Cereal Heroes”, about crime-fighting cereal mascots. We love it already — Sounds like a must-watch, especially due to Silver’s unique drawing style.
- More View Askew love from Yahoo Sports today, in fact, it’s from the same columnist who had all the nice stuff to say about the “Zack and Miri” hockey photo last week. This time, he references Dante and Randal in this article discussing the debut of iceless skating rinks in Japan :
“If you’re running around on the roof of the Quick Stop with Randal and Dante, it’s deck hockey or street hockey. So can it still be ice hockey if you’re wearing ice skates but there’s no, you know, ice?” - Film 411 writes up some nice praise for the “Clerks” sequel in their ramblings on some of the best follow-ups of all time.
- Look for a “Clerks” reference from the bassist of metal band Red Chord in this interview — Look around 8 questions in.

- Zack & Miri costar Elizabeth Banks get the front cover treatment (along with Josh Brolin) on the current issue of Entertainment Weekly (#991) promoting their their upcoming flick “W”.
- Another song used in Clerks 2 has been found in Grand Theft Auto 4. The Smashing Pumpkins’ “1979” can be heard on the Liberty Rock radio station in all of your stolen vehicles.
- Jason Mewes is starring in a new short film by Andy Milonakis, and the viewers are being asked to send in their own custom made alternate endings! Check out the video HERE.
- And finally today, Buddy Christ gets compared to bigfoot in THIS article. Check out the sweet Bionic Bigfoot doll!

- The IMDB is reporting that Jason Lee and his girlfriend Ceren Alkac are expecting a child by the end of 2008. Congrats Jason and Ceren!
- There’s a funny Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back nod in episode #610 of “George Bush, Boy President” from Portland, Oregon radio station KUFO. Check out the audio HERE.
- And finally today, one of our scoopers let us know that the infamous Silence of the Lambs/Clerks 2 song “Goodbye Horses” show up on one of the radio stations in Grand Theft Auto IV.

- Remember when Kevin wrote a script for “Superman Lives”? Remember when Tim Burton was attached to direct and they were planning to use Kevin’s script as a basis? Well, comic site “Bam! Kapow!” has some concept artwork up from the project — Looks like it’s been there a while, we’ve just never seen it before. If you’re interested in seeing their takes on Supes, Doomsday, and Brainiac, click yourself on over.
- Wanna see that quick Patton Oswalt mention of Kevin from “The Tonight Show” that we brought up last update? We’ve got it now courtesy of the News Askew YouTube channel. Enjoy.
- And finally today, we’re not advocating the use of spray paint in public places, of course, but it does look like Clerks II has inspired one budding “artist” to make a mark — This photo comes to us from a couple walking in Lakeview Park in Oshawa, Ontario. Both were fans and couldn’t resist snapping a photo (NSFW). See ya next time…

- We’re kicking off the ‘Bites with some nice scannage today — Thanks to Empire magazine in the UK, who always kick butt with the Kevin coverage, here’s a fun piece titled “My Movie Mastermind”. In this feature, they quiz filmmakers and actors on their own work. How did Kevin stack up? Click the pic and see for yourself.
- Jason Lee reveals that he doesn’t have any current work on the slate, though he looks forward to getting back to work as “Earl” once the writer’s strike is resolved. Could this open up the chance for small appearance in “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”? You never know.
- FileFront and OneUp are also jealously drooling over Kevin’s customized Nintendo Wii console.
- Australia’s “The Age” charts the landmark year for “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” star Seth Rogen, cikting his successful 2007 and the path that’s brought him into the Askewniverse.
- In addition to the coolness that is “Dexter”, here’s another reason to subscribe to Showtime — Clerks II will debut on the network this Saturday, January 12th. Check your local listings. As we believe some cable and satellite systems also offer HD versions of the channel, this will be a chance for some of you to catch the colorful flick in the best resolution available today. Enjoy.

- We made the correction, but in case you missed it — Kevin’s “Kevin and Bean” appearance was actually on the Tuesday, November 6th program. Hope we didn’t lead anyone on a wild goose chase, there. The link from yesterday is still valid.
- An immediate answer to our Clerks II inaction figures query from yesterday — Current targets have the new set showing up in late Spring, 2008. So, sorry, not in time for the holidays this year. We’re sure that the gang wants a quality product, so the wait will be worth it. These things actually go through a lot of testing and approvals with test molds before the final models are produced. We’ll keep you posted on the progress.

- Thanks to a loyal scooper, here’s a direct scan of that Playboy magazine mention from this month, where Kevin is named as one of today’s great actor-directors. As always, click to blow up through inline image viewing magic, to see what great company Kev’s in the sidebar with.
- We know you saw “Jersey Girl” and the famous “Sweeney Todd” ending…But it was also a surprise how many folks who saw the film weren’t familiar with the musical. With Tim Buton’s new version, now available in trailer format at Yahoo, maybe the joke (and performances) will be more generally understood by audiences for future viewings.
- And last, but certainly not least today, Rosario Dawson makes Film Threat’s list of “The Fifty Best Breasts In Movie History”. You can watch various YouTube videos for each of the gals as evidence. Of course, her “Clerks II” rooftop scene is their proof in this case. Enjoy, and we’ll see ya…SOON!

- Coming Soon checks in with the DVD specs of the upcoming Blu-Ray release of “Live Free or Die Hard” (November 20th in North America, an earlier October 28th internationally). The big extra we’re all waiting for is the extended chat that Kevin held with Bruce Willis on the FOX lot, though no specific word on its inclusion here. Of interest, though is an exclusive video game that will only be available on the Blu-ray disc, which features (we believe, at least) Kevin as The Warlock:
-
…actor and director commentaries and the exclusive high definition BD-Java multi-level strategy game “Black Hat Intercept!”
“Black Hat Intercept!” begins with a warning from ‘The Warlock’ (cult-classic writer, producer and director Kevin Smith) that a computer virus has been placed inside an unwitting Internet company’s mainframe by the infamous cyber-terrorist, Thomas Gabriel. As the team leader from inside the surveillance van, players must guide an agent into the building, outwit the building’s security systems and personnel without being detected and then wipe the hard drive clean before the virus destroys the U.S.
Additionally, the BD debut of the “Die Hard Trilogy” comes locked and loaded with numerous bonus features including deleted scenes, featurettes, actor and director commentaries, visual effect breakdowns, alternate endings, side-by-side comparisons and much, much more.
We were hopeful for an edgier cut of the film as well, after the whole R vs. PG-13 debate, though it looks to not be the case here — We’ll see that stuff as extra scenes. No word on Kevin’s involvement with the DVD commentary due to his cameo role, though the guy never met a DVD track he didn’t like — We’re hopeful that the man’s involved as much as possible on this one. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
And by the way — The disc will also support the new D-Box chair which, believe it or not, rumbles and moves in sync with the film. Basically, it turns your living room into a ride! Pretty nifty, though at over $10,000 for the system, not an accessory we’ll be able to afford anytime soon. Ah, technology. - Some kind, albeiet brief, words about Clerks II’s DVD release in South Africa are here courtesty of the “Tonight” website.
- Aint It Cool runs a positive review of “Gone Baby Gone” including some praise for director Ben Affleck (minor spoilers in their review) :
- If this is an indication of his skills, I’d like to see more from Affleck. He has pace, shots, and construction down.
- And finally today, has the Flying Car become the Flying Saucer? We’ll take two. See ya next time!
