Dogma DVD Official Cover Art: Front & Back!

December 29th @ 4:49 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent Pereira, Andrew St. Clair, Brett Deacon & MondiBlue

  • The detail’s not so great, but we’ve now got a photo of the BACK cover for the upcoming Dogma: Special Edition DVD as well. Thanks to DVD Review for providing the art. Vincent Pereira has confirmed that the cover we posted last update is going to be the one they go with, perhaps with some minor changes. So, those of you that didn’t like it much, sorry to say, that’s the way it’s gonna be. Sure, there’s some problems with it, but it’s a cool piece of art and MUCH better than a photo or a rehash of what we’ve already got on the current Dogma DVD. At least they’re trying to provide some new content for those of you buying the disc. We still think it’s damn cool.

First Look: Dogma Special Edition DVD Cover Art!

  • We have here what on good authority seems to be the new cover for the upcoming Dogma: Special Edition DVD. And wow, is this cover art ever cool! In fact, in this webmaster’s humble opinion, it’s better than the original poster art. The thumbnail above expands to a slightly larger sized version of this. Click and enjoy. If there was a poster of this, I’d buy it.

The jam-packed Dogma Special Edition DVD is scheduled to street on January 23rd, 2001. Special thanks to Joblo.Com for the tip on the image.

Breaking News: Tentative Dogma SE DVD Release Date!

July 13th @ 10:52 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Word just came to us that the Dogma: Special Edition DVD’s tentative release date is JANUARY 13, 2001. We realize this is quite a bit later than some of you anticipated (most popular guesses being November before now, which still may happen). Remember, DVD releases are ALWAYS subject to change, but if there ever was a reason for a DVD to take a while, it’s this one: With two commentary tracks, 100 minutes of extra scenes, an all new documentary, and lots more, this 2 disc set is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more! A release date, regardless of when, is ALWAYS a fantastic sign.

Correction On Dogma SE DVD Print…

June 19th @ 9:34 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad

  • Alright, I’ll take full responsibility for this one — In haste reading Vincent’s post yesterday, I mistakenly misread that the Cannes print would be used for the Dogma Special Edition DVD. This isn’t true. Kevin prefers the theatrical print, so the exact same transfer of the film on the current DVD will be on the SE DVD as well. All the extra scenes, including the stuff from the Cannes version of the film, will be in the 100-minute deleted scenes supplement. Sorry for misleading anyone, it was just careless reading on my part.

Dogma Special Edition DVD Details…

June 18th @ 4:25 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent Pereira

  • We’ve been forgetting to mention this for over a week now, but it’s some very cool news that you may have missed unless you regularly surf the View Askew WWWBoard. Vincent Pereira revealed that a second commentary was recorded for inclusion on the already-loaded Dogma Special Edition DVD due sometime this fall (no official release date has yet been announced). This second track was with just he, Kevin, and producer Scott Mosier. It focuses more on the making of the flick itself, rather than the more whimsical track with Affleck, Lee, & others. Both tracks should be worth the time to listen to, for sure. Add those to the brand new documentary, the extended (by 8 minutes) Cannes print of the flick, AND (our favorite) an approximately 100 minutes of deleted scenes, and you’ve got what’s probably going to be the best DVD to hit the market yet. And we’re not just saying that because we’re fans. It’s gonna be damn cool.

Vincent On The Upcoming Dogma SE DVD…

June 7th @ 6:29 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent Pereira, Nolan Reese

  • When asked a question about the way cool new Fight Club DVD (A great DVD and a fantastic flick, see it), Vincent dropped some big details on the upcoming Dogma Special Edition DVD. Check it out!
The “FIGHT CLUB” DVD is indeed a great DVD of a great film. The “DOGMA” S.E. DVD will be at least as good, but different. It won’t be as “interactive” and tech oriented as FIGHT CLUB, but that’s the nature of the beast- David Fincher is intrinsically a very technically oriented filmmaker, and that comes through in the focus of this DVD- there’s tons of really cool techie material on how the effects were done, etc. Kevin has always been more about what the material MEANS, the that’ll be the focus of the “DOGMA” DVD- the meaning of the film, and the controversy surrounding it’s release. This is the way to approach DVD special editions in my book- each film is different and should be approached differently. A highly technical film made by a great filmmaker like David Fincher should be approached from a largely technical standpoint, whereas someone like Kevin who is more about the ideas shouldn’t neccessarily be approached that way when it comes to one of his flicks hitting DVD.

Right now, we’ve got a 40-minute (approx.) documentary (focusing largely on the controversy), two commentary tracks (one with visual clips like MALLRATS), nearly 100-minutes worth of deleted and extended scenes, an odds-and-ends “bloopers” clip reel, Scott Mosier’s storyboards for the action sequences, and several other goodies that we’re still working on. Belive me, this mother is going to be bursting at the seams.

TAKE DOGMA HOME TODAY!

May 2nd @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Dogma hits shelves nationwide on VHS and DVD today. Remember, the DVD is just the bare bones version, which you can buy for about $15 at most discount and web retail shops. A Special Edition DVD set is due this Fall. The VHS tape is available FOR RENT ONLY, if you want to purchase it, it’ll cost you over $100. Most tapes arrive at a “sellthrough” price a few months after they are released, but no such date has been announced for Dogma at this time. There are no plans to release a Special Edition on VHS.

So, what are you waiting for??? Get out there and rent Dogma! Let’s see how high that sucker can get on the video rental charts! And, as a reminder, now that you can have a copy at home, you can safely play our Dogma Drinking Game. Just be careful!

Dogma Cannes Version To Show At Vulgarthon!

April 27th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin reported today that he’s made a way cool change to the proposed Vulgarthon 2000 lineup this October! Seems now that lucky attendees will get a chance to see the Cannes version of Dogma, which runs about 15 minutes longer. This event just gets cooler and cooler. Here’s Kevin:
Having just chatted with Vincent, he brought to my attention that we have the ‘Dogma’ Cannes print, which is about ten or fifteen minutes longer than the theatrical cut (included are Azrael’s “Evil is an abstract” speech, as well as the Fat Albert scene). Rather than show ‘Rats’ again, I think we’ll be showing this instead. I’m sure some of you will now skip the event, as we all know ‘Rats’ is the only flick of mine worth a damn, but I think the idea of including ‘Dogma’ in a Vulgarthon lineup – especially a longer version – may tickle at least a few of you.

Dogma DVD: First Look Review!

April 25th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Thanks to our good friends at Columbia/Tristar, we were fed-exed review copies of the Dogma DVD! So, we’re proud to present an early look at this disc. Remember, this one will pale in comparison to the massive special edition that they’re preparing right now for this Fall, but all in all, if you just want to watch a damn good movie, this disc is certainly a worthy purchase. Check out our detailed review, menu screens, and cover art of the Dogma DVD here. The disc streets on May 2nd, one week from today.

Independent Spirit Awards Held…

Jason Lee @ the 2000 Independent Spirit Awards

  • The Independent Spirit Awards aired on IFC and Bravo yesterday. Unfortunately Dogma, which was up for Best Original Screenplay, was edged out by “Election”. Election is a well-written flick, but we can’t help but think Dogma’s writing was quite better. But then again, we may be biased. Still, damn shame. Election also took the awards for best picture and director, so there were obviously some huge fans of the flick amongst the voters. That sort of explains why Dogma lost the screenplay nod.

Jason Lee was on hand to present the “Blair Witch Project” with the award for best movie under $500,000. Also, in a montage of movies honored in the awards, they showed the “Salsa Shark” clip of Clerks. That’s about all that happened Askew-related at this year’s show.

While we’re on the topic, in case ya didn’t see it, IFC does have an interview with Kevin online HERE.
