  • Yes, as predicted, the hilarious Jimmy Kimmel did indeed have his revenge on girlfriend Sarah Silverman and Matt Damon, debuting an instant classic new video segment on his late night program last night. For this retaliation, Kimmel got none other than our old pal Ben Affleck (and MANY other incredibly famous celebs) to take part in a tune of his own. Kevin’s always known what a great sense of humor that Mr. Affleck has, and this video has to be the epitome of all of that. Just great from start to finish. Click and enjoy the hilarity, and bravo to Affleck and all the others who took the time to have a little fun. The skit is less than a day old and already legenday — JoBlo has picked up the story as well.
  • Though sadly out pal Scott Mosier didn’t take home the Oscar last night (though he should be extremely proud of the nomination), new Askewcomer Seth Rogen and pal Jonah Hill took command of the stage with some funny comedic bits as they announced some honors at last night’s show. We’re assuming Rogen jetted out for the show right off the set of “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” in Pittsburgh, and had to jet right back on in to continue filming. It certainly was a joy to see one of the newest members of the growing View Askew family as a highlight of the broadcast. Good on ya, Seth.

“SModPAST” Brings SModcast To Your Screen!

  • Every once in a while we’re surprised by an out of the blue find on the ‘net, and this sure is a pleasant one — A fan of SModcast has taken a few of the show’s more memorable bits and turned them into Flash animation. What first seems like it may be a basic cartoon gets more detailed as things move along. Watch the guys for costume changes and hilarious side bits that fit just perfect with the story, along with clever references to movies past (even a “Zack and Miri poster in the background of a more recent bit). These remind of us the bits that fans used to do for some of the memorable “Howard Stern Show” clips over the years, and seem very much inspired by that. Kudos to the author, and here’s hoping there’s more.

Check out the first (and only?) episode of “SModPast” over at NewGround. It features the opening moments of the first cast, Harry Scotter, and the spider/scorpion story. Great stuff, which we sincerely enjoyed.

  • We love Wikipedia, in fact, we’re jealous of not having this extensive of a Kevin bio page (yet, anyway). They’ve just updated Kevin’s page with some great stuff, including a graph we love that indicates his frequent casting choices. If you’ve never seen this page, now is a fantastic time to check it out. Well done to all who contributed (perhaps YOU were one of them?).
  • Could the critical tide finally be turning for “Jersey Girl”? The film gets a deserved kudo in this story on on and off-screen romances, where the author cites the excellent original cut )with the early Ben & Jen stuff, in our opinion, some of the strongest stuff in the movie):

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, “Gigli”

“…Ironically, the failure of “Gigli” led writer-director Kevin Smith to radically pare down Lopez’s role opposite Affleck in “Jersey Girl,” but the couple play off each other brilliantly in the rarely screened original cut of that film, which Smith plans to one day release on DVD.”

  • And finally today, we appreciated the creativity behind this tribute to Blutman to the familiar theme of “Shaft”. Enjoy the flick over at YouTube. We’ll see ya next time.

  • Ready for a good laugh? Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show is still hilarious, and girlfriend/guest Sarah Silverman recently showed up with a video featuring one of our past View Askew cast — Matt Damon. Damon has been a long running gag on the show, where nightly, Jimmy would apologize for running out of time and having to bump him off the guest roster. Now, Damon participates in a hilarious sketch, showing what a good sport he is and a fantastic sense of humor he’s got.
  • We mentioned this a while back, but it’s nice to have it for the archives all the same — Here’s a 1+ minute audio commercial on XM that Kevin and Scott recorded to advertise SModcast. Nothing new, but not available online anywhere else. Listen (in MP3 format) and enjoy.
  • Want more clippage? A local radio show in Las Vegas recently interviewed outspoken religious fanatic Shirley Phelps and brought up “Red State”. Listen to this clip and see what she had to say.
  • What ELSE is Jason Lee doing during the “My Name Is Earl” downtime? Looks to us like he might be doing some skating again! Look to the middle of this “The Berries” video from Stereo for some Lee trickage.
  • We don’t have the clippage, sorry to say, but hear that our beloved Jason Mewes appeared on the brilliantly funny show “Head Case” on Starz this week. He played a Fedex-like delivery guy. It should be re-aring until the next new episode, so check your local listings. We haven’t seen the show to verify, so if anyone else catches it or has a capture, let us know.
  • Enjoy the Superbowl and/or the commercials today, if you’re watching. Catch ya next time, and thanks for stopping by.

  • A nice little “Zack & Miri” tidbit today. When we briefly spoke with Jim Norton during a Harrisburg appearance earlier this month, he spoke quite highly of Kevin but seemed unsure of his role in the new film. However, on Opie & Anthony this week, it was reported he was out of studio due to his role in the movie. So, it looks like we’ll see the hilarious comedian onscreen for sure now! Hoorah!
  • Filmstew reports that Celeste Massullo, an artist from Ohio, put together a charity fund raiser of “toilet tattoos” (Custom artwork drawn on toilet bowl lids). One of the celebrity participants is no other than Jason Mewes, though his art is not displayed as part of the piece.
  • What’s Jason Lee up to while “Earl” is on break due to the strike? Why, appearing as Kevin Bacon on web based TV shows, of course. Channel 101 runs an episode of the program “Yacht Rock” with one of our favorite View Askew stars. You can catch it over at YouTube as well. Funny stuff, as they present the story of the movie “Footloose”. If you’re a fan of cheesy 80’s tunes, you’re gonna laugh out loud.
  • Oh but what’s one Lee newsbite without a second? We love obscure stuff like this — Teacher scooper Tom hooks us up with some scannage from a teaching magazine called “Edutopia”. This month, they have an interview with Mr. Lee, which mentions Kevin and Mallrats. Click and read. Simple as that. You’ll learn, among other things, what’s in his “Dream lunchbox”.
  • Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Sean Bailey have announced that their LivePlanet film unit will be disbanding. The banner will remain, but without Damon and Affleck’s involvement, as they have taken new steps in their careers. Their most visible project was the awesome “Project Greenlight” HBO/Bravo series.

The First Post-“Zack & Miri” Production Start SModcast!

January 21st @ 9:58 am | No Comments » | Scooped by

  • Special guest Jason Mewes joins Kevin for a brand new SModcast this morning. After taking a week off to get started on the production of “Zack & Miri Make a Porno”, we’re happy to present the first episode of the show since the cameras have started to roll on Smith’s 8th film. Appropriate, we say, given that Mr. Mewes will indeed be playing a part in said movie. The title, actually, refers to a slight lisp that Mewes has picked up due to recent oral surgery. His character, Lester, will now have a slight lisp in “Zack and Miri” as well. Here’s the logline:

      SModcast 44: Thuffering Thucotash –

In which one of our heroes is accompanied by a special guest making his triumphant return with tales of orthodontia, long distance love, the bare necessities, cultural understanding, and talk of “Zack and Miri”. Plus, a quiz!

Three days were shot last week (Wednesday thru Friday) and they’re back to work today. So far, Mewes has appeared in just one shot. An early shot of the film took place at the historic Monroeville Mall, a spot we have visited many times. This is the mall where the original “Dawn of the Dead” was filmed. We hear they drew quite a crowd inside the mall. Anyone catch it?

Day two featured Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks in a car, and actually had them fighting snowfall – Welcome to Pittsburgh, PA. And yes, as always, Kevin is already having some footage cut together to look at (though with the shoot NOT being in Los Angeles this time, it’ll be a bit tougher).

It’s looking like SModcast will be your best way to hear the latest stories from the set as shooting continues on. If you’re a fan of the “Zack & Miri” production, this will be the way to keep up. For example, we heard there are actually GUNS used as props in the film. Guns, you say? Interesting, no? Once the new episode has run its course over at QSE, we’ll also archive the interesting bits at our new production site.

You can get the ‘SMod at one place, and one place only — That’s Quick Stop Entertainment, View Askew’s exclusive portal to everything that’s entertainment on the web. The MP3 file is totally free for your downloading and listening pleasure. Haven’t picked up an episode yet? Check out our next story and see why you SHOULD be listening…

The First SMod Of The Year Has Arrived!

January 8th @ 10:16 pm | 1 Comment » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Hooray – A mid-week present has arrived. Kevin and Scott’s recently recorded SModcast has now been made available for all to download — And hey, best of all, same as last year, it’s completely free of charge. Let’s see what the guys have on tap for us this week:

      SModcast 43: SMorpheus –

In which our heroes discuss SMod after death, and then descend into the Matrix to determine the reality of PodBabies, post-pod love, virtual weight loss, the power of a crappy life, and whether the virtual world makes a man happier.

As always, SModcast is exclusive to Quick Stop Entertainment — Brought to you absolutely free of charge, courtesy of hosts Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier. We look forward to hearing some “Zack and Miri” tidbits in coming episodes once shooting kicks in. Our thanks once again to the guys for taking their own personal time to bring us a hilarious weekly hour. Enjoy SModcast 2008!

  • The holidays have SModcast delayed a day this week, but we’re expecting a new episode to drop any moment now. We’ll have a link for you right here when it’s ready to roll.
  • Kevin’s turn in “Live Free or Die Hard” is listed as the #4 Best Cameo of the year in Empire Online’s Top 5 of 2007 list. Bruce Campbell tops the list for his brief appearance in “Spider-Man 3”.
  • JoBlo, always having the great eye for the ladies, cites “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” female lead Elizabeth Banks as the “Hottie We Want To See More Of In 2008” as part of their Hottie Awards. Read the full piece, see tons of those sexy photos those guys are so good at digging up, and enjoy.

A Very SMerry Christmas!

December 26th @ 8:01 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by George Efta

  • Kevin and Scott gifted fans with a brand new, fresh holiday edition of SModcast yesterday, just in time for Christmas day. We’re playing catch-up from all the holiday activities now, and just spinned up the ‘cast as this update is being typed, so read the logline for a peek at what’s in store:

      SModcast 42: SMerry Christmas –

In which our heroes ring those silver bells in celebration of the holidays, chatting up all things related to the season, from the little baby Jesus to Conan the Barbarian.

Looks like another super-sized edition of the show, free as always from Quick Stop Entertainment. Special holiday blessings to Smith and Mosier for taking the time out of their busy schedules to do what the TV networks aren’t doing — Bringing us fresh content over the holidays.

New Kevin Interview Clippage From France!

December 22nd @ 3:34 pm | 2 Comments » | Scooped by Simon

  • We’re very pleased to present some brand new Kevin interview clips today, courtesy of our scooper Simon. He took the time to remove all the Smith stuff from what looks to be an excellent new French documentary called “Suck My Geek”. The program was broadcast by the french Canal+ network. This stuff was broadcast only in France and isn’t available anywhere else. Kevin’s segments are all in English with French subtitles. In the snips, he chats about such topics as the San Diego Con, geek culture, Simpsons “Vans”, and lots more. Every clip, small or big, is preceded by some text explaining the topic (a nice touch). Watch it all HERE. The site may require you to download a new Adobe plugin for your web browser. Well worth the time! Special thanks to Simon for the NewsAskew shoutout at the end, as well. Enjoy.
