- MovieMiguel comes to us with exclusive photos and a few details from Jason Mewes’ signing and panel appearances in Ohio this weekend. No video or further details of what went down, but we did get this one new tidbit from the event – He and Kevin shot a total of FOUR new episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation! We knew that some filming had taken place when the guys were in Canada recently, but we had no idea that it would be for this many episodes. No plot details on their appearance just yet, though their last visits had them making a “Jay & Silent Bob Go Canadian” film and then coming back to town for the premiere. We can’t wait to see what’s next.

High Res Week Continues: Galactica Panel!
- Our special edition of San Diego Con pics continues, courtesy Albert Ortega, as photographed beautifully by his colleague Austin Gorum (thanks Austin!) – This time ’round, we’re featuring shots taken at the Battlestar Galactica panel, which may look familiar to some of you who watched the full video — Still, nice to see this stuff blown up in high resolution, of course. Click away.

- We’re all anxiously awaiting the arrival of the “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” webisodes from Chop Shop Entertainment, called “Money Shots”. While you’re waiting, though, we’ve got a nice little treat for you today — Chop Shop did some special Behind The Scenes webisodes for an online series that NBC is doing called “Gemini Division”, starring none other that “Clerks II”‘s Rosario Dawson. Even cooler, the DP they used was View Askew original Baby Dave Klein.
- The great “Clerks” shows up in Yahoo’s photo essay of the 25 Best Buddy Movies.
- A photo of two fans dressed as Jay & Silent Bob at the recent San Diego Con makes Geeklogie’s massive gallery of the best costumes of the year. Female Ghostbusters? Call us.
- Parade Magazine interviews Seth Rogen about “Pineapple Express”, though “Zack And Miri Make a Porno” also gets a drop:
Q: Next you’re going to be seen in Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make A Porno, which is having problems getting an R-rating due to explicit sexuality.A: Looking back on filming, it was sort of romantic. But there is definitely some sex, and I know it’s gotten a reputation as a filthy movie. We live in a world where you can disembowel someone in a youth hostel in Romania but you can’t show people having sex. I think it’s weird. I honestly don’t think it deserves an NC-17 rating. Maybe we should have taken ‘porno’ out of the title. That kind of freaks people out, even though it is like the number one industry in the universe.
Yeah, but we just don’t think “Zack & Miri Make a Movie” would have the same ring, ya know?
- Actor Jason Statham (of the “Transporter” series, “Crank”, and lots more) has gone public stating he’d love to take over Ben Affleck’s role as “Daredevil” in future films.
- Finally today, a familiar View Askew icon makes an appearance in this Intructables (Billed as “The world’s biggest show and tell”) listing of Napier’s Bones.
The BTS webisodes are now available for immediate streaming. Since so many C2 alums are involved, we thought you may wanna take a look. Special thanks to Zak at Chop Shop — We’ll keep waiting for the scoop on those “Money Shots”!

- The first season of “Reaper” the hilarious, entertaining CW show which Kevin acts as consultant on (and did his first TV directing gig for) debuts on DVD November 4th in a 5 disc set. TVShowsonDVD has the announcement but sadly no details yet on any bonus material (we’d sure love to hear a running commentary track from Kevin with some of the cast or crew on the pilot or other episodes):
Lionsgate Entertainment has struck a deal with Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment to release several of Disney’s TV titles on DVD, starting this Fall. Among their first few releases will be Reaper – Season 1. It arrives in stores on November 4th, as a 5-DVD set with 18 episodes, plus exclusive bonus material. Total running time on this release, timed to debut near the second season broadcast start on The CW Network, is listed as 800 minutes, with a price of $39.98 SRP. The show stars Bret Harrison (The Loop), Ray Wise (Twin Peaks) and Missy Peregrym (Heroes). Package art isn’t available yet, nor details on the bonus material, but stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated!
If we hear more details, we’ll let ya know, of course. - Celebrating the release of “Pineapple Express” (which had a very successful opening yesterday, by the way, congrats Rogen!), Jay and Silent Bob show up at number 3 on Rotten Tomatoes’ list of “15 Memorable Movie Stoners”.
- Film 411 cites “Dogma”‘s use of the song “Candy Girl” as a top use of a track in the movies.
- For those of you who hate scans, you can also read Wizard’s excellent “Marvel Knights: Ten Years Later” piece over at their website. We ran scans of this as they appeared in the issue as part of our last site update.
- Catch Askewers Sean William Scott and Elizabeth Banks in the trailer for the upcomign flick “Role Models” at the MTV Movies Blog site. It’s under the left pane under “new video” (no direct link right now, sorry). Looks like a fun one.
Watch Kevin Host The B-Star G Panel…
- Once again proving their Con-web synergy superiority, SciFi (an NBC company) has followed suit with their sister network and posted an outstanding quality, full length video of one of the hottest tickets in San Diego last weekend, the one hour panel featuring stars and creators of Battlestar Galactica, all hilariously moderated by superfan Kevin Smith himself.
Wanna watch? It’s all just a very simple click away.
With the show on hiatus, if you’re not watching, now is a fantastic time to pick up DVDs and catch up on easily one of the top 3, quite possibly the BEST show on television right now.
The “Spaced” Signing…Is OVER!!!!
- We can now at least let the jealousy end, as we can no longer pine for attending the “Spaced” signing which took place at Stash West inside Laser Blazer on Wednesday. Were you there? Have a blast? Meet the gang? Talk Back and let us know, especially if you’ve got some good stories or photos. The line wrapped around the block yet all who waited patiently left with signatures. We hope you all took our advice and got a nice spot in line to avoid a long wait. Everyone headed over to the Arclight theater for a post-signing screening last evening.
Along with the “Spaced” gang, Kevin hits the con in San Diego this weekend, you can hear he and Scott chat about all his upcoming panels arouns 6 minutes into SModcast #58 this week. Kevin does a panel Thursday, 2 on Friday (one being his very own, where the first live footage of “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” may be seen), and a final star-studded event on Saturday. Whew! We’ll of course have the full dish on the panels and other events at San Diego as they come in — We swear, one of these years we’ll figure out a way to snag press passes and get the heck out there! Keep your eyes open for a weekend wrapup as reports from the con hit the News Askew desk. If you’re there, or were there, don’t forget to drop your old pals Brad & Chris a line and let us know what’s up.
EXCLUSIVE – For our wonderful readers (that’s you!), Ron of Laser Blazer has done something amazing – He has an extremely limited amount of SIGNED SPACED DVDs available for immediate purchase. And we are talking WAY limited here, like a number that is less than 50. Less than 40 even. Yeah, that few. So if you want one, order RIGHT AWAY. Here’s where you can get one. Don’t delay, as these will be gone really fast. Maybe even by the time you read this.
“Spaced” Signing Just Two Short Days Away!
- The big “Spaced” event at Laser Blazer and Stash West is just two days away, and our jealousy grows with every passing minute on having to miss it. The DVD release has been nabbing a ton of press, including an extensive article from LA Weekly along with a printed version of the ad. What’s that translate to? Even BIGGER waiting lines! We’re telling you, get there EARLY on Wednesday! There’s rumors going around that the signing may run a little longer than expected, which is good for those that line up, but we’re still going to bet on the line being cut at some point, as the group does need to make it over the Arclight for an appearance later in the day. So please, if you miss your chance, don’t complain to us — We’re warning you, reserve your spot and don’t miss your chance to meet these modern legends, some of the funniest and most creative in the biz.

- The great /film announces that Kevin will do a LIVE review of the already record-breaking “The Dark Knight” on their live webcast, called /Filmcast. You can catch it at their Live website this Monday at 10 PM EST / 7 PM PST. You can watch and participate in a live chat there during the broadcast. The guys are hoping to ask Kevin some questions about “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” as well, so it’s well worth tuning in. See ya there.
- Seth Rogen continues to break new barriers of coolness with an episode of animated powerhouse “The Simpsons” next season in which he wrote and will star. Aint It Cool News got the scoop:
The “Simpsons” episode written by Seth Rogan logline: Comic Book Guy creates a super hero, it’s turned into feature film, Homer plays the hero. Seth plays his personal trainer. Homer gets into great shape, but then the movie is over and he can’t afford the personal trainer anymore and his life becomes hell.
And of course, we’ll be there. But with “The Simpsons”, that’s a given. Now if only we lived close enough to Universal Studios to try out that new ride… - Variety reports that Hungary’s TV2 has already acquired first run rights to (eventually) broadcast “Zack And Miri Make a Porno” on their channel – And this before it’s even hit theaters! That’s smart business right there.
- Here’s that info we promised on the Texas screening of Brian O’Halloran’s “Brutal Massacre: A Comedy” – It’s happening at 6:30 PM on Sunday, July 20th.and the Granada Theater in Dallas. Call 214-824-9933 for tickets and info. Purchase tix prior to the 20th and save $2.50 on each. No word on which cast or crew will be at this showing, at the moment.
- And finally today, for those of you “Clerks” fans wondering what the average jizz mopper makes these days, seems that upcoming video game Postal III is bringing this trade back into the spotlight. Man, those guys at Running With Scissors are nuts. We’ll see ya next time…
The “Spaced” Signing And Arclight Q&A Is Coming!
- With just a little over a week away until what we think is the coolest event EVER at Laser Blazer and the Secret Stash, the signing of the fantastic new “Spaced” DVD with Kevin and the show’s cast and crew, we want to remind you — GET THERE EARLY. We expect a massive turnout for this event. Not only that, for those of you looking for a Kevin Smith autograph in person, and coming in for the San Diego Con, this may be YOUR ONLY CHANCE! Last year, Kevin’s busy schedule had him at so many panels, there was not time for a formal signing. So, we strongly urge you to line up at Laser Blazer and the Stash, get that fantastic “Spaced” DVD, and meet Kevin and the crew on the 23rd next week. Then, write us to rub it in and make us even more jealous. We look forward to hearing from you — Get there early and have a fantastic day, and be sure to give yourself extra time to walk around the coolest DVD, comic, and fanboy store in the country.
Not yet been introduced to the awesomeness that is “Spaced”? We got ya covered. - We’ve been talking a lot about that Best Buy Mooby Clerks II box set that’s showing up in a few select locations — We’ve just learned that Stash West/Laser Blazer has some in stock in the store! Pick them up while ya can, as this is a fantastic item to bring with you for Kevin to autograph at the big signing event later this month.
- Kevin once again made insanely popular quiz show “Jeopardy!” late this week, as an $800 answer in a category called ‘Mere Smiths’:
This director of “Clerks” played Warlock in “Live Free or Die Hard”.
Returning champ Aaron got it right, answering of course, “Who is Kevin Smith?”. - Rotten Tomatoes list a familiar duo in their list of “The 10 Best Superhero Hookups” :
10. Bluntman & Chronic
As seen in: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
Like their “real-life” counterparts Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith), these superhero buddies live by their own version of the force: a shared love for Mary Jane. Wielding their bluntsabers side by side, Bluntman and his loyal sidekick Chronic spring from the pages of Banky and Holden’s comic in Kevin Smith’s Chasing Amy, then get the Hollywood treatment in their film-within-a-film in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. With A-list schmucks Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek set to ruin the duo’s good name, Jay and Silent Bob arrive just in time to film a pivotal fight against the evil Cocknocker (Mark Hamill) with a cry of “Snootchie bootchies!” Just remember, they’re not gay; they’re (super) hetero life partners. Man love can be a beautiful thing. - Just a bit more info on that Spike panel in San Diego later this month — We mentioned the time change of 4:45 to 5:45 on Thursday the 24th, but not the bigger room. That’s gonna be Ballroom 20. As always, check with the Con when you arrive to be certain. Kevin will be a participant in Spike TV’s “Scream Like a Girl” panel.
- Finally today, blogger James Hibbard expresses his jealousy over Kevin’s hosting the upcoming “Battlestar Galactica” panel at the San Diego Con, writing: “This could push the typically packed venue into fire marshal-shutdown level of geek engagement.”. You’re not kidding. Between an in-person stint with “Spaced” geniuses Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Jessica Hynes, followed by a sit-down panel with stars and creators of the best show on televsion right now, we’re insanely jealous ourselves. It’s gonna be some July. If you’re on the west coast, or plan to be there soon, the end of a July sure is a good time to be there. More on Kevin’s stint for “Galactica” via Galactica Sitrep
