San Fransisco Flixtour Wrap-up…

  • Vincent sent us a summary of how things went with Flixtour in San Francisco. Sounds like he had a pretty good time! Here’s the man himself:
The San Francisco Flixtour gigs at the Casting Couch were rather sparcely attended at best, which is a shame because it’s a pretty cool venue with couches rather than the traditional movie seats. It was also a video rather than film projection, but they were projecting from my Betacam componant videotape through a high-end Runco projector, and it looked quite good. It didn’t look as good as 16mm projection (not by a long shot), but it definately looked better than any video projection save the HDTV demos that I saw at Sundance, and the sound was better than the 16mm optical track (although it was a bit overdriven at the first showing and some peaks in dialogue were distorting). I spoke at the Thursday night showing, and, although there were only maybe a dozen people there, my Q&A went for well over an hour. The few folks who did show up to see the film seems to dig it, so that’s cool.

One of the folks who showed up at the Thursday night screening was a chap by the name of Justin Lomba, a 20-year old who posts from time to time on the main board under the handle of Louis Cyphre (remember ANGELHEART?). Anyway, Justin introduced himself before the screening, and afterward offered to take me around and show me San Francisco the next day. Being in the big, bad city all by my self, I took him up on his offer, and Justin pretty much kept me company for my entire stay there, hanging out with me, showing me around, introducing me to his friends (who were equally cool). He brought me to what has to be the greatest video store known to mankind, Le Video, which puts Mondo Kims in NYC to shame – they have a killer laserdisc rental selection that is loaded with rare imports (including many nearly impossible to otherwise find Argento discs), CDs (I picked up an import of the soundtrack to Argento’s masterpiece TENEBRAE), and tapes galore. On Friday we also caught a midnight showing of EVIL DEAD 2 that kicked ass (although the audience was loaded with a gaggle of miscreants and morons). Anyway, Justin basically redefined ‘hospitality’ in my eyes- hell, the dude even got up at five AM Sunday to give me a ride to the airport!

So, while my screenings didn’t sell out, I still had a great time in San Francisco- it’s a really cool city (although it has more homeless people than I’ve ever seen in my life) and, unlike that diseased hellhole Los Angeles, I can’t wait to get back out there for a more extended period of time.

I’d also like to thanks Spazmataz for coming to the Saturday night show – I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to answer any questions you might have had. If you want to know anything, just ask if we run into one another in IRC.

So that does it folks – I’m off to Lehigh University this Wednesday (my birthday- WooHoo!), then it’s back here until March 24th when the bulk of the tour kicks in.

Let’s get a HUGE turnout for the Lehigh screening tomorrow night! We plan on being there, and we know a lot of you are in the area, so stop on by! We’ll see ya at the show.
