It’s funny, but lately we’ve been getting quite a few mails concerning the website being slow since the move to the new server. First of all, we ask you to PLEASE use the latest 4.0 versions of Microsoft Internet Exploreror Netscape Navigator for this page to work best. We know for a fact that users of Netscape 2.0 will often see crashes or pages not loading at all. This is due partly to our fairly crappy HTML coding as well as the fact that older versions of Netscape just don’t handle tables that well (that thing you see on the left of your screen with all the links). We’ve also tested WebTV boxes, and, although they tend to be a bit slower, they work fine.
The old News Askew website used a feature called frames, which allowed you to view the page as it loaded rather than wait for the entire thing in one chunk like the current page does (due to the tables, we think), so that’s why it may seem a bit slower. It’s coming down just as fast, there’s just nothing for you to read while you wait. If any HTML experts know a way to get around this, and can make heads or tails of our page code, feel free to grab a copy and mess with it. We’re far from experts on this stuff, so if you’ve got a suggestion that works, we’ll give it a shot. We don’t have time to rewrite a ton of code though.
In summary, we hope that the content of the page is worth waiting for, but we hear ya, and if there’s a fix we’ll certainly do our best to make it right. Okay, enough of this shit. On with the show…
