Actors join ‘Taillights’

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) – Denise Richards (“Wild Things”), Jake Busey (“Contact”) and Breckin Meyer (the upcoming “54”) are set to star in the indie action comedy “Taillights Fade.”
The film follows two couples as they race across Canada to help a jailed friend by emptying his warehouse full of pot before the cops find it. Elizabeth Berkley, Margot Kidder and Tanya Allen round out the cast.
The five-week shoot begins in British Columbia on Wednesday, with Malcolm Ingram directing from a script by screenwriter partner Matt Gissing. “Chasing Amy” director Kevin Smith is serving as an executive consultant.

- Look for George Carlin to appear on David Letterman this Friday, June 5th…Perhaps he’ll say a word or two about Dogma!
- Astute scoopers are reporting previously viewed copies of “Chasing Amy” floating around at Blockbuster Video for the incredible price of $9.98. There’s even a $2 off promotion going on, bringing the final cost down to $7.98 plus tax! If you can settle for an Amy that wasn’t brand new out of the shrink wrap, you can’t go wrong.
- Wanna see “Clerks” on the big screen? In the Lexington, Kentucky area? Drop by the Kentucky Theatre at midnight on Friday, June 5th (well, early Saturday morning if you’re being official about it). The film will be showing there in all it’s big screen black & white glory.
- San Francisco Askew Fans! The website www.radioalice.com of radio station ALICE 97.3 reports Kevin Smith as a guest (most likely a call-in, we assume) on the Sarah & Vinnie morning show this Friday.

Armageddon Causing A Stir…
- Looks like Armageddon‘s causing a stir over a month before its release! Thanks to the disappointing box office of Godzilla, all attention has shifted over to this flick as being the big summer moneymaker. Here’s the latest appearance of Armageddon in the press:
IT’S THE END OF THE ROAD FOR ARMAGEDDON POSTER: A spectacular billboard advertising the forthcoming blockbuster ARMAGEDDON has been ordered down by Californian police. The enormous advert, which was painted onto the side of a building, has proved so realistic it has snarled up traffic on the busy San Diego Freeway in Los Angeles. The film, about an asteroid hurtling towards Earth, is not set for release in America until next month, but film bosses wanted to get the hype underway hot on the heels of the dissapointing box office performance of rival blockbuster GODZILLA. The huge Armageddon ad makes the building look like it’s been hit by a comet which has blasted right through to the other side. But because of the threat of multi-car pile-ups, Californian Highway Patrol asked film studio TOUCHSTONE PICTURES to paint over the eye-popping artwork. A studio insider said, “It is a bit of blow as we are using the design across the country so we are having to wipe it out six or seven times.” TERRY CURTIN, spokeswoman for parent company WALT DISNEY, says, “The City of Los Angeles ordered us to remove the billboard as it was a traffic obstruction.” Armageddon stars BRUCE WILLIS, BEN AFFLECK and LIV TYLER.

AICN Kevin Rumors Explained…
- Alright, well, we’d hoped to save an update for later, but so many of you were mailing us about this story that appeared on AICN today, so we thought we’d better speak up! First, the story, then, our comments:
Warner Brothers and Kevin Smith???
Ok folks, now the first thing I’m gonna say, is don’t go running out telling everyone you know that this is so, Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, I got some interesting vibrations that came out of the oil tincan today. The first one was that WARNER BROTHERS is talking to Kevin Smith about SUPERMAN LIVES and that theproject isn’t dead, then the next bit came from another vibration saying that WARNER BROTHERS is hiring Kevin Smith to do the script for THE SCOOBY DOO MOVIE. Sudden evil comes over Harry as he envisions Ben Affleck with blonde hair as Fred and Banky as Shaggy (REPEAT THIS ISN’T TRUE JUST A HARRY DELUSION)
So what can we gleam from this? Well that according to the sources I have in Terry Semel’s office, Kevin Smith and Warner Brothers are talking about…something. Ok all you View Askewers, what’s up?
First of all, we’ve dropped Harry a line to try and fill him in and let him know what we think of all of this. In the note, we basically said that, although both rumors MAY be true, we’d believe the Warners chatting with Kev about Supes again is much more likely than the Scooby project. Kev’s just got too much on his plate with Dogma’s post-production, the book, the Fletch script, and all the comics to undertake yet ANOTHER script, at least this year. However, after seeing all the articles touting what a great script that Kevin came up with for Supes Lives, it wouldn’t at all surprise us to see the brothers Warner knocking on the VA office door again…

- Just a follow-up on yesterday’s rumor about the BHD soundtrack…Brian Lynch has apparently listened to quite a few bands who want their music in the flick, but at this point, NO music has been selected. The band probably got a call from Lynch or someone asking for a CD of their stuff, and assumed the best. Most likely, he’s listened to a hundred bands in the quest for the perfect soundtrack…
- The Aerosmith video from the “Armageddon” soundtrack began airing on MTV yesterday. We’ve yet to see it, but apparently Ben’s got lots of screentime in the video (through clips of the film, he didn’t shoot anything extra for the video, we believe). Look for it in heavy rotation.
