A Monday article on Cinescape suggested that Kevin Smith (Chasing Amy) may be looking to adapt Daredevil for the big screen. The posting was based on an article that originally ran in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last Friday. However, a careful reading of that article reveals that the possibility of a Smith-helmed Daredevil movie is just an idle thought on the part of the Post-Gazette writer.

On the other hand, It seemed possible that Smith could take an interest in the movie, since it was recently announced that Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire) plans for the character had fallen through. Comics 2 Film decided to follow up by asking Smith’s buddy Joe Quesada (creator of Ash and mastermind of Marvel‘s upcoming Marvel Knights line of comics) if he knew anything about this. Why ask Quesada? Well, aside from having a friendly relationship with Smith, Quesada will be Smith’s editor and penciler on the revamped Daredevil comic. Furthermore, Quesada has just returned from the Pittsburgh comic con, where he also met with Smith on the set of his new movie Dogma.

Communicating via the bulletin board at the Event Comics web site, I asked Quesada if he’d heard Smith talk about the possibility of doing a Daredevil movie. Quesada replied that Smith is not looking to do Daredevil. He also said he was certain of this because he’s “met with a Writer/Director (who shall remain nameless) at Marvel who is pitching the movie to a VERY large studio. ” Quesada has declined to say who this writer/director may be, but it’s clearly not Kevin Smith.
