DAREDEVIL GETS KEVIN SMITH FOR TWO MORE ISSUES!

Think filmmaker Kevin Smith’s run on DAREDEVIL needs to be longer?Worry no more, O’ Fearless ones! Like the rest of us, Smith just can’t get enough of the Man Without Fear and has signed on for an additional two issues! Says Smith, “The story was way too big for six or seven, so we had no choice but to go to eight. The fans have loved the book so much that we just had to continue the process.” DAREDEVIL editor and inker, Jimmy Palmiotti, agrees, “This is THE classic DAREDEVIL tale and it needs to be told in its entirety. We are therefore very pleased to announce that Kevin’s run will continue. Be afraid! Be VERY afraid!” Penciler Joe Quesada is slightly less enthusiastic, however… “I only draw the pictures that Kevin tells me to draw. I guess that basically makes me Kevin’s hired (rhymes with witch).” Don’t underestimate yourself, Joe — those are SOME pictures!

Some pics indeed…This story is INTENSE thus far. We can’t wait to read the final 5 issues. Keep up the good work, guys. It’s an excellent book through and through.

After reading the whole board, I have only one question…

When are Smalls and Scottie getting married? The incessant bickering is already in place, now all they need is the license.

That being said, onto matters less romantic in nature…

Scott and I tripped out to LA last week for about seventy two hours or so, and came back with another notch almost carved into the belt. It’s the dream of most every young lad at one point or another, really…

We’re going to have our own cartoon.

Well, not Scott and me, exactly. Instead, it’s going to be about clerks – or, more precisely, ‘Clerks – The Animated Series’. Look for it in January 2000.

The particulars I’ll hold off on, as there are a few networks bidding on the show currently, and we’re not sure where it’s going to eventually air. All I will say is, God bless ‘South Park’ – they’ve really opened the doors. Many moons ago, pre-‘Park’, we were begging Fox to do an animated ‘Clerks’, likening it to ‘The Simpsons’, and they stared at us blankly. Last week, however, five networks not only listened to us seriously, but ardently – some even going so far as to giving us carte blanche to create more than one program. What a difference a few years makes…

Onto other matters, not so Askew – within the last week, I’ve seen three VA alumnus in as many flicks. I found ‘Meet Joe Black’ enjoyable (if a little self-indulgent in its length), and thought Claire was really good (I’d certainly fall for her, if I was Death). Saw our boy Lee in ‘Enemy of the State’ – a flick I also enjoyed quite a bit (a bit of brown-nosing there, for the current boss). Also caught ‘American History X’, which was a good watch. Ethan was terrific, but it was Ed Norton who made that flick for me. That man is Talented with an upper-case ‘T’.

It’s nice to see the kids getting noticed, and hence, getting work – does a man proud.

The test screening for ‘Dogma’ now looks like it’ll be somewhere in NJ (though not around here, and they’ll never tell me where until the day, so please don’t ask for an invite, as I’m not in charge of the thing). We had to move the date, so as not to conflict with the Max’s premiere of ‘Shakespeare in Love’, starring some scenery-chewing clownnamed Bin Afuck, or something. This means we move our temp-mix dates to the first week of Dec., at which time me and Mos will spend a few sunny days of that ‘Star Wars’ guy’s ranch.

Speaking of, me and the Mos were treated to a rare honor – screening the trailer on a soundstage at the Fox lot (after we pitched the series). It was a bit of weirdness for us to actually see the first glimpse of ‘Episode I’ in the distrib’s backyard – we felt we’d sort of ‘made it’, so to speak (the big time; not the trailer). T’was kind of special for a couple of dorks who tend to forget that the reason we’ve pursued this particular line of work is because we liked watching other people’s movies so much – including the auteur of said highly-anticipated flick. It was the first time I’ve hooted loudly and obnoxiously in a movie theatre in God-only-knows how long (if ever).

Tomorrow, VA says goodbye to that oh-so-cutesy address of 69 Broad St. (the snickering will be missed, I assure you), and say hello to the less innuendo-laden, but still kind of naughty 3 Harding Road (HARDing… get it?). Thankfully, I myself will be moving nothing (one of the perks of the job). I’ll be saving that for the day after, when I move from the luxurious Broad St. apartment (yes – all this time, I’ve only ever lived a mere one block from the office), to the newly fenced-in Compound Askew (or ‘the house that Bartleby built’, as I so fondly refer to it). And while I won’t be hosting any house-warming functions there (sorry, but a brother needs at least a little privacy), be assured that there will be an office party sometime in the near future.

The Stash won’t be moving until after Christmas, however. We need that time to refurbish and build the bestest damn comic book store/shrine-to-self we possibly can (I’ve seen the plans, and in the words of Flounder “Oh boy, is this great!”).

That’s about all for now. It’ll be spotty for me around here over the course of the next few weeks (rewrite gig, DD and Oni stuff, unpacking, test-screening, and Christmas), but I’ll try to get on as much as possible.

And if you haven’t already, order that ‘Clerks Holiday Special’. It’s pretty funny, I think – and a character not seen since we last left them in the back of an ambulance makes an appearance.

God, I love my life.

As for the animated series, all we can say is: COOL. We’ll keep our eyes and ears on this one, and have all the scoops we can muster up at this here site for ya. As for the screening, there ya go, NO ONE WILL KNOW until the day, so PLEASE stop asking us about it…As for all the other various goings-on, we’ll keep ya posted. It’s always nice to hear some of this stuff straight from Kev, though.
