  • No, it’s NOT a late April Fool’s joke: An anonymous source just gave News Askew this BIG scoop: DOGMA WILL NOT BE RELEASED BY MIRAMAX! The Weinsteins will be purchasing the film themselves and marketing it independently through another studio. We’ll have more details and the full press release later! How about that, huh? We’ll of course have continued coverage on this very interesting story, including what this means as far as a release date, the final cut, and more. Stick around, folks, it’s bound to be a VERY interesting time around here…

    And we guess it makes this week’s poll topic kinda moot. Still, vote as you see fit! 😉

  • Many of you wrote in to share your thoughts on Dogma’s already growing controversy with the Catholic groups and others. Most of you were MOST amused by the sentence, “We got 37 corporate advertisers to withdraw their sponsorship of the program” though. “A coincidence?” said Nate. Mike Johnson exlcaimed, “I nearly spit out my Iced Tea reading 37!!!!!”, and Narcolepsy “Obviously they’re in on the joke.”. Maybe so.

    TONS of Release Dates…

  • A big chunk of repeat mail that we get has to do with release dates, and, unfortunately, we can only keep track of them to a certain degree, with the changing comic industry and DVD release dates that seem to move weekly. Anyway, we’ve done some checking around, and here’s what we’re looking at: Due to a delay at Marvel, the next issue of DareDevil will again be delayed for another 2-3 weeks. We hope to get a definite release date from Jimmy or Joe soon. On the Oni Front, as you can see above, ODF #12 feautring Blutman & Chronic comes out the second Wednesday in May, with the long-awaited Jay & Silent Bob #4 out “Late May or Early June”.

    On the DVD front, we recently announced May 18th as the release of the Clerks Special Edition DVD based on Blockbuster Video’s computers. We should have known better! This is likely a pre-order deadline, since signs now point to a more realistic release of June 29th. Again, this DVD will feature everything the Miramax laserdisc had, including deleted scenes, commentary, and lots more. Again, we weep over the lack of 16:9 enhancement in Miramax titles. We think that, with the hefty price tag, it wouldn’t hurt to go the extra mile.

    FINALLY, the Universal DVD site has finally added the Mallrats:SE DVD to their release slate! The date? July 13th. We can’t wait. We reiterate: TEST PRESSING, Universal! Hook us up!
