- Thanks to the kind folks who sent us a VHS copy of the Entertainment Tonight piece! Above, we’ve got two stills from the Cannes premiere of “Dogma”. Then there’s some actual stills from the movie : The first shows the start of the clip, with Matt & Ben chatting in the airport very close to the film’s beginning…The second highlights Chris as he exits the airport terminal, the final shot with me (Brad), wearing the brown bomber jacket and glasses, as I talk to Chris. The clip cut off right at that point, but our screentime drags out a BIT further as we move across the screen to the right.
Anyway, we at least wanted to show ya this as proof that we were indeed in the film, in case this scene suffers any cutting in the final version!

- Here’s some information that surfaced on Dark Horizons today about the new Cameron Crowe project featuring Jason Lee…
Cameron Crowe’s Next: ‘The Wave’ has been to the set of the next project of Director Cameron Crowe (“Jerry Maguire”):
“I was on the set of the yet-to-be-titled new Cameron Crowe film. The film crew were filming interior lobby shots of the hotel I was in on location at Hollywood Blvd. right across the Mann’s Chinese theater. By the looks of the set designs, this movie looks like a 70’s set, period comedy. Every actors on set were dressed in 70s gear and sported goofy-ass hairstyles. Billy Crudup, Sarah Polly, and Faruza Balk were present during the shoot. Now I say it looks like a comedy, because the costumes were so damn ridiculous. If the movie isn’t a comedy, but a drama, then the costume designer should be bitch slapped for those horriffic clothes the actors were forced to wear. The film crew were shooting a group arrival scene on the hotel lobby with Billy Crudup leading the bunch. I don’t have a fucking clue about what this movie is about, but my guess is romantic comedy with an ensemble cast,which means it’s another shitty movie for the Dreamworks roster. One advice to Dreamworks: don’t produce any feature films unless it’s by Spielberg or DeBont.”

Kevin To Appear On MTV Special…
- Looks like MTV‘s got a new movie-related series coming up, getting them even FURTHER away from their old video-playing days (remember that?). At least this show sounds like a fun one to watch, and Kevin‘s featured in the first episode:
MTV to document 90s “Movie Moments”

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) – MTV will continue its “Nine for the ’90s” millennium series with “Nine Movie Moments That Made the 90’s,” a one-hour documentary celebrating the decade’s most memorable big-screen moments.
The show, slated to air June 2 at 10 p.m., will feature a celebrity panel of actors, directors, critics and industry denizens evaluating moments from films selected by MTV staffers and film pros.
Participants include actors Jodie Foster and Samuel L. Jackson, directors John Singleton (“Boyz N The Hood”) and Kevin Smith (“Dogma”), MTV’s Chris Connelly, producer Stacey Sher (“Pulp Fiction”), magazine writers Chris Nashawaty (Entertainment Weekly), Jill Bernstein (Premiere Magazine), Owen Gleiberman (Entertainment Weekly) and Veronica Chambers (Newsweek).
The series kickoff, “Nine Days That Rocked the ’90s,” debuted in January. A third segment, slated to air later this year, will be “Nine Scandals That Shocked the ’90s.”
Certainly sounds like a pretty cool show – We have no idea how large or small Kev’s role will be, but we’re sure it’ll at least be amusing enough to tune in for.
EW Cannes Recaps…
- There were two Cannes recaps that mentioned Dogma in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly (Cast of ‘Friends’ on the cover)…

…What do you have to do to get a little attention in Cannes? Try hawking a movie you don’t want. The usually attention-hoarding Miramax received the most chatter for Dogma, Kevin Smith’s raucous satire on Catholicism starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as homicidal angels. Before its first screening, distributors were clamoring to see the film that studio cheif Harvey Weinstein was shopping, following the decision to buy the movie from his own company for $12 million and spare corporate parent Disney any protest grief. But its screening sharply divided potential buyers; some eagerly canvassed audience members for reactions, while one studio exec summed up his opinion of the two-hour plu comedy by sticking his fingers down his throat. As for Smith, the director was hoping that Weinstein might release the film, perhaps via a one-time-only distribution company, as he did in the case of 1995’s controversial Kids. “Maybe there will be no backlash to duck,” Smith said, “and [Harvey] wil be like, ‘Yaeh, we can put this out ourselves.'”

…The festival took another turn in the final stretch: Kevin Smith, former clerk and mallrat himself, woke up torpis moviegoers with Dogma, the most raucous good-natured, raunchy big bash of an American movie ever to explain Catholic theology -as well as the sins of movie studio executives. (Thos who would protest Smith’s entertaining, loosely stiched homage to the Church as a dis to Catholics would do far better to picket Life Is Beautiful as a dis to Jews).

- Pages 10-11: There are 2 questions for Kevin in the letters page. Important Stuff:
a) The old “is Rick Derris a real person?” question Kevin: “He’s more of an archetype. He’s the every-stud in high school who was rumored to have nailed, like, everybody – maybe even your mom.”
b) How did Kev hook up with Jim Mahfood? Kevin: “They (Oni) urged me to let him do Clerks, and thankfully I listened. Jim is great.”
c) What is Kevin reading right now? Kevin: Daredevil, Preacher, InHumans, Superman Adventures, Gotham Adventures and JLA.
d) Any chance of Kevin writing an X-Men book? Kevin: “you’ll never meet a bigger non-X-fan than me. Never dug ’em, and I probably never will. But I’ll be the first in line for the movie.”
- Page 70: A complete Kevin smith page. A huge article on the Clerks Animated series, and a smaller article detailing Disney/Miramax’s selling of Dogma. The only stuff coming out of this article that most of us didn’t know is that HBO was indeed one of thje companies vying for the series. Also, it says that everything is “based on Jim Mahfood’s designs, but after that it goes through the Disney animation department.”
- Page 115: Kevin is back to being the # 1 writer on the hot sheet. This month they had all the writers depicted as South Park characters, Kevin’s is pretty funny.
- Page 117: Daredvil # 1 is listed as fifth on the hot comics list.
- And Finally, The BIG ONE: Next month in issue #96, Wizard will have an offer to send away for a Dardevil #1/2 written by Kevin. These will be pretty exclusive I would imagine. We hear the issue will be available on either June 23rd, or the 30th.

Commentary…
- Lots of U.K. news today, which is a first…And a surprise to see just how many scoopers we have from overseas! Also, still a few straggling Cannes-related stories to catch up on, and some other tidbits.
NOTE: I’ll be heading to the beach for Memorial Day weekend starting tomorrow, and through Monday. Chris will be handing all updates and correspondence for the website.
