Sure, we know Dogma’s the talk of the town this week, but don’t forget, Brian O’Halloran’s new play starts this weekend!!! New Jersey Online has named the play as a weekend pick for things to do in New Jersey:
A WORLD I NEVER MADE in LONG BRANCH
“Hero Cop Shot By Dead Daughter’s Dealer.” And with this tabloid heading, a twisted tail of honor, sorrow, and obsessive love begins to unravel. Written by Bryan Williams, the New Jersey Repertory’s playwright in residence, “A World I Never Made” is a stunning drama that is definitely a must see. The play stars Steve Carroll and Brian O’Halloran, who was the lead role in Kevin Smith’s “Clerks” as well as appearing in “Mallrats,” “Chasing Amy,” and the upcoming films “Dogma” and “Vulgar.” Performances begin Thursday, April 15, and run through May 2. Tickets are priced between $30 and $15 and can be reserved by calling 732-229-3166.
The $15 dollar tickets are considered student rush tickets, meaning a student can call the day of the show and pick up the expensive tickets for half the price. Get there, people!

As we’ve been hinting about here at NA and hearing rumors, confirmation on these bad boys is here! Looks like we’ll be seeing not only a Randal and Dante, but another Jay & Silent Bob to go along with them, as well as the cool backdrops. Here’s the official announcement that’s going to appear in Toyfare Magazine, issue 22. due to hit the stands on Wednesday:

Graphitti Designs has some toys that Kevin Smith fans will want to “check out.”
Following up on the fan-favorite Jay and Silent Bob action figures, Graphitti will produce a line of figures based on “Clerks,” the 1994 debut film of writer/director/comic industry darling Smith.
The new Clerks figures are still in the planning, but current plans call for a four-figure assortment: Dante, Randall and new versions of Jay and Silent Bob as they appear in “Clerks.” Each one will have appropriate accessories, and each package will include a different backdrop-the Quick Stop for Dante, Rst Video for Randall, and a storefront for the loitering Jay and Bob. “The Clerks figures won’t have voice chips,” said Bob Chapman, president of Graphitti. “We want to keep these in the $10.95 to $12.95 price range.”
Graphitti has not yet set a date for the release of the figures, but Chapman hopes to have them in stores before the end of the year. And if all goes well with Clerks, Smith fans can look for figures fromhis highly anticipated fourth movie, “Dogma.” Naga-nooch! (James Busbee)
Even without voice chips, these guys are gonna look great and have the same high quality of those Jay & Silent Bobs that stand so proudly here at HQ right now…We’re looking forward to them! Now that it’s official, count on lots more news as design on these guys moves along.

Good day (a bit of Mackenzie Brothers for ya there, in honor of the rumored Strange Brew sequel). Yet another update today (seems they gotta come more often than ever to keep up!), featuring news on all sorts of fronts: Dogma, Toys, DVDs, and stage performances. Not bad! We also spruced up the CAST pages over at Dogma: Rumor Control, making them easier to read. Our cast section is by far our favorite of the new Dogma RC design, we’re proud to say, so if you haven’t looked at it yet, be sure to do so. The line between what to use on this site and what to put on RC is still blurry, we’re trying to keep both sites stocked up, but it’s gonna be tough when Dogma approaches release. At that time, you may need to visit both sites for your daily dose (though we still recommend that anyway!). Okay, let’s rock:

We’re as excited as you folks about the upcoming Clerks and Mallrats DVD editions, so we’re keeping close eye on what’s going on as far as prices, release dates, features, and the like. The latest: Interstingly enough, DVD-Express has Mallrats listed at being released on 7/20 instead of 7/13. We dunno what to make of this. But it surely is possible. And Amazon.Com is listing the RETAIL price as $29.99, not $39.99. That explains their cheap $20.99 pre order price. In case they’re wrong on the retail, it’s definitely a good time to get in on that deal. More news as we hear about it.

Yup, it’s spreading into the really big national magazines now, just as we’d hoped. This week’s editions of national news mags Time and Newsweek BOTH have mentions of Dogma towards the end. Newsweek just does a quick blurb, but Time had a bit more to say:
Lord, Have Mercy
Oddly, a movie that features a trash-talking Apostle and a female God is not one with which Disney is eager to be associated. Dogma, written and directed by Kevin Smith, takes an unorthodox look at religion, and Disney, producer Miramax’s parent company, fears it will offend Roman Catholics. So Miramax honchos Bob and Harvey Weinstein have said they’ll but the rights to the film and sell it to another distrubitor. Smith, a practicing Roman Catholic, says the movie “was always intended as a love letter to both faith and God almighty.”
Again, just a very brief rehash of some of the larger stuff we printed and discussed earlier, but it’s nice to see thepublicity spreading. We’ll have more for you in the coming days, we expect a few more stories before this all dies down(for a little while, anyway!).

Well, it looks like the rumor about Trimark at least trying to get their name in the running for Dogma’s distribution is true…A source tells us that, on Friday, “they had just had a conference call with “higher ups” for the sole purpose of discussing the possible buy of Dogma.” So, it sounds like the studio is working amongst themselves to put in a bid, but most likely has not yet directly contacted any of the parties that own the film at this point. Our sources also say that Paramount has mentioned nothing of the film (for those of you that heard the rumors that they were possibly interested, which is fine with us since their DVDs, for the most part, SUCK), and yes, we’ve heard the Lions Gate rumors as well. From what we’ve heard, it’s nothing more than internet buzz with no truth to it. We’ll keep our eyes on the Trimark stuff for ya, though.

Alrighty, ladies and gentlemen, we’re back with a ton of stuff to talk about at the start of this week in Askew…Actually, a lot of today’s news is just follow-up stories to stuff we’ve broken before, such as the Trimark rumors, DVD release info, and of course all that Dogma protesting. By the way, we’ve added even more summaries to the Rider and UCF wrapup pages, so if you’re into reading them all, check back today. We again warn you, though, these stories are uncensored, and come direct from the fans, so we’re not responsible for anything said (some folks sure do have strong opinions, that’s for sure…) and a lot of stories may be spoiled if you yourself plan on seeing a future Kevin appearance.
Something we forgot that Kevin mentioned at Rider, by the way, was that he hoped to release the Dogma trailer FIRST attached to copies of the Clerks re-release this summer, meaning fans who go and see Clerks would be among the first to catch the Dogma trailer. This same scheme was used (in the same timeframe) with Pulp Fiction when Reservoir Dogs saw its re-release, as well. Sounds good to us! Okay, on with the Monday news:

Current Role / Project: Who would you pick if you were looking for an actress to play God? Indie film-maker Kevin Smith (Mallrats) chose the supposed former infatuation junkie to play the divine role in the Ben Affleck – Matt Damon comedy Dogma.
Biggest Strength: Alanis’ childhood acting experience on Nickelodeon’s You Can’t Do That On Television was apparently enough to win the confidence of casting directors after Emma Thompson backed out of the role.

Seems the American Family Association (Wonder if Ed McMahon’s got something to do with that one?) isn’t too big of a fan of Kev’s stuff. 3 of his 4 flicks so far have made their boycott list. Quite an honor, if you ask us:
“Other objectionable films from Disney subsidiaries included Dogma (homosexuality), Chasing Amy (lesbianism), Pulp Fiction (sex & violence), Color of Night (sex), Clerks (graphic language), Chicks in White Satan (lesbianism), Lie Down with Dogs (homosexuality), The House of Yes (incest).”
Our scooper was quick to point out that he was (sarcastically) pleased that they differentiated homosexuality from lesbianism, even though lesbians are, actually, homosexuals. And we thought they’d have trouble with Dogma’s religious tones rather than that. Just goes to show ya…

We’re keeping our scooper anonymous on this, since we’re not sure where the info came from…But he says that, in a high level conference call, Trimark thought that obtaining Dogma would be a major victory for the studio, and that they planned to pursue it. Now, seems that Trimark hasn’t done the national distribution thing very well lately, though they have released some cool stuff on DVD…And we’re not sure of their bankroll, either, but we suppose anything is possible. This is just rumor from one scooper, so don’t put too much faith in it. If there is truth to this, we’re sure no one from Trimark has even talked to Bob, Harvey, or Kevin yet, but that the phone call may be happening in the future. We’ll keep you posted on anything else we might hear.
