Commentary…
- It’s been tough finding time to work on things lately — We’ve been home hardly at all this week, so if the updates seem a bit rushed and impersonal, that’s why. We’re happy to report that there’s just a few very small bugs to work out of the poll script on the new server, and we’ll be flipping the switch. Perhaps even soon tonight, after OZ. We’ll let ya know when that happens with a message at the top of the page.
The raffle is continuing, and you’ve still got plenty of time to get your entries in! We’re announcing a lot more prizes tomorrow, giving you more chances than ever to win. For a buck, you can’t go wrong. Hell, we wish we could enter ourselves. But that wouldn’t be that fair, would it?
At any rate, some odds and ends to report on today, but nothing super noteworthy. We’ll be updating Dogma:RC, adding some new features, and generally working on speed improvements after we complete the move over to the new server. Lots of great stuff on the horizon. Stick around!

- The IMDB reports on Dogma today, and the Catholic League’s latest booklet that we mentioned yesterday. The one mistake they make is that they say no distributors are willing to touch the flick, but, as we all know, a distributor HAS signed on, just has yet to announce themselves:
CATHOLIC LEAGUE PRINTS BOOKLET DENOUNCING DOGMA
The conservative Catholic League said Tuesday that it has published a booklet about Kevin Smith’s Dogma (1999) “that offers proof of the anti-Catholic nature of the film.” In April, Miramax co-founders Bob and Harvey Weinstein said that, in order to spare Disney any further public conflict over the film, they would set up a separate corporation and buy the movie for $11 million, then sell it to another distributor. So far, no other distributor has been willing to touch it. Apparently hoping to step up the pressure to prevent the film from being released, Catholic League president William Donohue said Tuesday that the group plans to distribute its booklet to the media, members of the Catholic church, including all bishops, and “anyone who would like a copy.” [IMDB]

NEW YORK (Variety) – Warner Bros. has landed Chris Rock to voice “Osmosis Jones,” a streetwise blood cell who’s at the center of the studio’s next major animated feature. David Hyde Pierce (“Frasier”) will join him as Drix, an inexperienced cold tablet who buddies up with Osmosis to thwart an evil virus out to destroy the body of a construction worker. WB-based producer Joel Silver — who appeared in the live-action/animation “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” — will voice the police chief; pop star Brandy is negotiating to voice the female lead. WB has been moving quickly on “Osmosis,” which was greenlit in June and has already been set up at Kids WB with a 13-episode order for an animated TV series. Rock will likely do “Osmosis” before taking his next film-starring job: “I Was Made to Love Her,” a Paramount comedy expected to start shooting in January. Rock will host the MTV Video Music Awards in September, and awaits release of two films: Neil LaBute’s “Nurse Betty,” in which he stars with Morgan Freeman and Renee Zellweger; and the Kevin Smith film “Dogma,” which is expected to see release this fall. - More screenings coming your way, this time from overseas! You can catch a Clerks/Chasing Amy double feature showing this weekend at the Nova in Rundle street, Adelaide (South Australia) – Saturday 7th August at 3pm, and Sunday 8th August at 7pm. A rare chance for those of you down under to catch Kev’s stuff on the big screen!
- In the newest edition of Sequential Tart, an online comics site created by women, Frank Miller comments on Kevin’s run on Dardevil with the following:
FM: It looks like they finally found a Daredevil writer who can out-Catholic me.
As far as what Kevin Smith’s up to, I can’t comment until he’s wrapped up the storyline. But I’ve got no idea where the hell he’s going with it, and that’s a good thing. Spooky stuff. I was startled by Karen’s death, though, and sorry she had to wind up a victim after all.
