• www.psycomic.com is a new webzine dedicated to comic books, and they promise thatthey’ll follow Kevin’s work very closely. They’ve added a review of Jay & Bob #4, with plenty more to come. Check it out.
• Renée Humphrey, (or “Trish the Dish” as many of you know her) is featured in the flick “The Sex Monster”. This comedy also stars Mariel Hemingway, Stephen Baldwin and Kevin Pollack. It makes its World Television Premiere on Cinemax, Friday, October 15 at 8 PM. More information and showtimes are available on the Cinemax website HERE.
• Rotten Tomatoes, the website that allows fans to check in with their own reviews on flicks, has added their Dogma reviewpage. Expect a mixed bag here, since some fans who LOVE the film usually show up, but the major flick HATERS love to comehere and vent, as well.
• Wanna save a few bucks on the Dogma soundtrack? We’re sure all the online sites will carry it at a discount, but CDNow.Com already has it for preorder, listed at $13.99. We assume the Stash will have a good deal on signed editions too, though,after the CD is out.
• The new issue of Premiere (November) has a full page Dogma ad along side another full page that reads ” Lions Gate invites You and a special Guest to a special advance screening of DOGMA.” It then lists the 10 major cities to write to and were to send a postcard to recieve tickets. Even if you’re not in the area, it’s a cool souvenir/mini poster to get a holdof. And hey, if ya make it to one of the screenings, let us know!

THE NAKED TRUTH

Face it, Brooke, when it comes to stripping off for movies, Salma does it so much better…

Who says guys dont make passes at girls who wear glasses? They do if its Salma “va voom” Hayek doing a Demi Moore on the set of her new movie ‘Dogma’. Salma plays heavenly stripper Serendipity in the biblical comedy, whcih is already causing a stir with American religious groups – who havent even seen it yet.

Directed by Kevin Smith – whose films include the off-beat love story ‘Chasing Amy’ – ‘Dogma’ also stars Hollywood heart-throbs Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as two fallen angels, Loki and Bartleby, who try to get back into heaven.

Along the way, the pair encounter a non-practising Catholic abortion clinic worker (‘Men in Balck’s’ Linda Fiorentino), a winged messenger of God (Alan Rickman), and Salma Hayek as a sexed-up muse. US comedian Chris Rock also stars as a foul-mouthed 13th Apostle who says Mary didnt stay a virgin, and singer Alanis Morrisette makes an appearance as God.

‘Dogma’, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, reportedly features fart jokes, foul language and violence, and also boasts a gigantic satanic monster made entirely out of human excrement.

Smith claims he doesnt think ‘Dogma’ is going to cause any controversy. “The movie is too adolescent to be taken seriously,” he said at a press conference.

Also taking her clothes off is Brooke Shields in ‘The Bachelor’. However, far from being sexy, Brooke could do with a few tips from Salma to help her brush on her stripping technique. Compared to the barely-there G-string Salma “wears”, Brooke looks fully dressed. And the choreography… simply dropping your dress and revealing long lacy underwear isnt going to do it; and the pearls, darling, have got to go.’

• George Carlin will appear on The Tonight Show on October 19th. Let’s hope he gets an early plug out there for Dogma!

• Hey there folks…Factor in a crazy weekend that includes house settlements, packing and moving boxes, homecoming at your old university, and Octoberfest, and you’ve got one heckuva tough weekend to make an update. Sorry this one’s coming so late. We hope it catches everything up for ya, and that you didn’t miss us too much. There may be a few dry days here and there in the upcoming week, again due to the move. But we’ll try and keep things as caught up as we can, especially with all the Dogma hype going on right now.

Chris caught Fight Club last night, and tells me that it falls flat for about the last 45 minutes. That’s sort of disheartening. I’ll hafta check it out for myself when I get a breather, though. On the TV front: We gotta say, add Tuesday night to your must-see TV schedule. Buffy The Vampire Slayer and their new show, Angel, are both kicking serious butt this season. I got totally hooked on Buffy two seasons ago, and now, with the new series, the WB’s got a solid two hours of television going for them. The shows are consistently fresh and entertaining, always taking unexpected turns and blending humor, drama, and action incredibly well. And the chicks on there aren’t too hard on the eyes, either. 😉

Not only will this look just amazing, but it’s a HUGE honor that Dogma’s been chosen to be shown in this way at as big ofa convention as ShowEast. Congrats, everyone!

• A lot of you have been sending in e-mail asking us about what went on with Dogma’s distribution when Miramax opted outand the film was being shopped around. Well, IFP/West is sponsoring a “Case Study” withKevinKevin and Scott where just this topic will be covered. Should be very, very interesting. If you’re a fan on the west coast,it’s a great opportunity to go to what’s sure to be a fun, fascinating forum. Here’s how:

• Here’s an Australian article about Dogma from the magazine “NEW Weekley”. Unfortunately, we’ve just got scans, so click the thumbs if you wanna take a shot at reading it. We realize this won’t be possible on some screens, as with all articles that we only get only scanned in versions of.

• We’ve finally got a scan of the piece on “A Better Place” that appears in this month’s Fangoria magazine. With the DVD/VHS release just a few months away, it’s nice to see the flick back in the limelight. The one-page article features some tidbits on the flick, info from Vincent, and a few shots from the flick (and behind-the-scenes). As always, click the ‘nail for A Better Look (pun intended).

Also, The Digital Bits threw ABP’s DVD coverart up in their upcoming DVD art section recently. Looks like the cover prototypes we’ve posted in the past, this one just seems a bit more official. Good deal.

• We’ve been waiting to make sure there were tix out there, and there are! That’s right, those of you that thought you couldn’t see Dogma early still have a chance! KevinKevin, Scott, & the rest of the View Askew gang will be holding a special benefit Dogma screening in hometown Red Bank, New Jersey, on Monday, October 25th, and tickets are STILL out there! Now, for those of you that ARE going – Some fellow fans have put up come information that should help you find a great deal on a hotel, or just your way around town. Check this page for hotel info and directions to the Dogma screening. It contains info on how to get group rates at some decent places: The Holiday Inn $99 and Red Roof Inn $68. You gotta hurry, though, if you want the group rate you gotta make your reservations by tomorrow, October 15th for Red Roof and Monday the 18th for the Holiday Inn.

• No newsbites today, and this is a pretty small story…But we wanted to make sure you didn’t miss it. Looks like the Affleck date we posted yesterday for SNL was wrong. Derek checked in over on Ben’s board that he will actually be hosting SNL in February, as opposed to the December 11th date we’d seen reported yesterday. He also said that he is busy working on getting a very cool musical guest for the show. We’ll be tuned in.

• We’ve got some fantastic breaking news for you western Pennsylvanians, especially those of you that have been mailing us asking if the folks out there who took part in the film (extras, crew members, and the like) would get an early screening. Sounds like your wish has been granted!

In todays edition of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,they listed Dogma as the opening film for the 1999 Three Rivers Film Festival. It will be shown at the Regent Square Theater (located in Downtown Pittsburgh) on November 5th at 8:00 PM. Wanna go? Tickets are $6.00 per film or $60.00 for admission to 13 films. • IGN’s back in our news again…This time, they did a top ten list of the Top Ten hormonally-charged actors working in Hollywood today. At number One? View Askewer Ben Affleck, with a great Mallrats mention to boot.
• Ethan Suplee (Mallrats, American History X) joins REMEMBER THE TITANS for director Boaz Yakin (FRESH). The pic stars Denzel Washington and Will Patton as coaches of a newly integrated football team. Based on a true story set in 1971, it follows Coach Herman Boone who was made head football coach of a Viriginian football team following the forced integration of an all black school with an all white school. He and the assistant coach (Will Patton) overcome their own differences to”mold a group of mis-matched young men into a state championship team”. The film, being directed by upcomer Boaz Yakin (”Fresh”) who is only 27 years old, is expected to be released by Buena Vista sometime next year. Thanks to Dark Horizons for the extra plot info.
• A great new Dogma article appears on the press pages today from Newsday. The quotes from Kevin regarding charges that his flicks are too talky and visually lacking are oustadning. Also, we’ve got 2 very positive reviews of the flick courtesyof the IFFF website and Ain’t It Cool News. All the latest is on Dogma RC…
• Claire Forlani‘s hitting the silver screen again in the future from the sound of things…And hey, there’s nothing wrong with that.
