The character breakdown that you printed on the site is legit. I work for a talent management company and that was a character breakdown that came down in NY & LA this past week from the casting director of the film. It’s just a solicitation for representatives to send in photos & resumes to the casting director so she can begin to set up auditions.

The interesting thing here is that when you sign up to receive the breakdown services, you sign an agreement promising that all materials will be kept in house and private (you aren’t even *supposed* to show them to your clients, although it routinely happens) so whoever leaked it is a pretty sad fellow with no morals I guess!

But, I can confirm they are legit.

For the record, that ‘scooper’ doesn’t have a copy of the script. He or she got a hold of a NY Casting Breakdown sheet for day players during the NJ shoot. It is, word-for-word, what our casting people put out to the east coast casting agencies yesterday (I have a copy of it here on my desk). It’s about as non-spoiler as it can get, and reveals little to nothing about the flick.

Consider that piece debunked.

[TEEN #2] 15-19.Teen #1’s less forceful, more easily intimidated partner in crime and misdemeanors… 6 lines, 3 scenes.

[MOTHER #1] 16-19. Young, slightly trashy presumably unwed mother. She’s seen in a flashback with a chubby baby outside a certain Quick Stop in New Jersey… 2 lines.

[MOTHER #2] 16-19. Also young and unmarried, but with a much harder edge (and harsher mouth) She leaves her baby with Mother #1 as she enters the quick stop… 3 lines.

[PASSERBY] Man passing by the Quick Stop, who makes the mistake of commenting on the parenting skills of Mother #2… 2 lines.

[COP] Your typical hard-edged tough cop, he busts Jay and Silent Bob outside the Quick Stop for selling pot… 4 lines.

Writer-director Kevin Smith made his directorial debut with the surprise critical and commercial hit, Clerks (1994) –a hilarious look at the underbelly of American convenience store culture. After garnering high praise on the festival circuit, Smith won the Filmmakers Trophy Award at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival as well as the International Critics Week Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Smith went on to write, direct and co-produce the two follow-up films in his self-described “New Jersey >trilogy,” Mallrats (1995) and Chasing Amy (1997), which won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Original Screenplay. A flair for gritty dialogue, eccentric characters and keen cultural insight has secured Smith a prominent place and cult fan base in the independent film scene.

In addition to his writing and directing credits, Smith also co-executive-produced the Academy Award®-winning film Good Will Hunting (1997) with friend Scott Mosier. Late last year, Smith’s fourth motion picture, Dogma (1999), was released by Lions Gate Films, and early next year Smith and company will begin shooting the last of his New Jersey film cycle featuring Jason Mewes as Jay and Smith as Silent Bob. An avid comic book fan, Smith is the proud owner of Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, a comic book haven located in Redbank, New Jersey. Smith has written his own comic titles, and is currently working on Marvel Comics’ “Daredevil,” as well as contributing to the DC Comics hit “Green Arrow.” Among his other projects, Smith collaborated with indie film guru John Pierson on his book Spike, Mike, Slackers and Dykes, a chronicle of the world of low/no budget film.

The Borowsky Lecture on Screenwriting provides an opportunity for established film writers to share their experiences, and to discuss the challenges and delights of writing for the screen. The Lecture is named in memory of the screenwriter, novelist and teacher. Past lecturers have included Billy Wilder and I.A.L. WORD ON THE STREET

In a recent chat with Newsarama’s Matt Brady, Kevin Smith said that he’s already written issues’ #1 through #6 of his February-launching Green Arrow series, and that he’ll be starting issue #7 soon. The would leave five more issues to write taking into account his previously announced intent to write a 12-issue arc, and then pass the ongoing title on to another writer to continue. (Smith has suggested he that Mark Millar would make a good replacement, but as our previous story indicated, Millar’s schedule seems full for quite some time).

However, it appears as if Smith’s run may get extended…”I think I’m going to stick around after the twelve issue story arc, and maybe do another half-year or a year, because right now, the first twelve issues are one big story arc,” Smith told Brady. “It’d be nice to get in there and do some single or two-issue stories.”

As for returning to Marvel and a particular red-suited guy with horns, there’s good news there as well. “Quesada’s got a healthy stable of great talent over there, and he certainly doesn’t need my help anymore,” Smith explained. “That being said, we are going to do something. I believe next year, we are working on doing a Daredevil hardcover, so that should be kind of fun. He [Quesada] doesn’t have much time to draw anymore, but he said he would make time to do this, so that’s in the hopper.”

Also coming from Smith in 2001 is a Bluntman and Chronic miniseries that is tentatively slated for a June debut.

We recently ran an article about Fluorescent Multilayer Disc (FMD) videodisc technology, and how it would be first showcased with the distribution of the upcoming movie Bounce. Well, we have a few more details about the event and we feel that it will be of definite interest to our readers for several reasons. If there are any lingering doubts that we’ve entered the age of mainstream digital media, they should be dispelled very soon.

On November 14, several companies will converge at a movie theater in New York City to usher in ‘The Theatre Of The Future’, with the first ever showing of a major motion picture via satellite. Members of AMC Theatres, Boeing, EnergyDigital, Miramax Films, actor Ben Affleck, QuVis, Texas Instruments, The Walt Disney Company and Williams Communications will be on hand at 11am Tuesday at the AMC Empire Theatres in Times Square, New York City for the premiere of ‘Bounce’, and the fact that the movie will be delivered digitally by satellite signals the beginning of a new age in theater delivery and distribution. How quickly the changes are felt in the many theaters across the world remains to be seen, but barring some catastrophic glitches, there can be no doubt that there is no turning back.

AMC Theatres has already outfitted two of its auditoriums in the Empire 25 Theatres in Times Square with digital projection, and now has installed a satellite dish and all the software and hardware to securely receive, store and then project a motion picture digitally. The company has installed digital projection in nine of its megaplex screens in the U.S. and Japan. Miramax Films is providing the movie. The AMC Empire will play the film exclusively in digital format.

Boeing will provide encryption and satellite transmission of the movie along with video segments and movie trailers via a new content management and transmission system. This open architecture system draws on Boeing’s extensive commercial and military satellite experience. It will allow secure transmission of movies to thousands of theatres simultaneously. EnergyDigital designed and orchestrated the event. It specializes in convergence of the wide range of companies, content and technologies needed to make digital cinema possible.

QuVis designed and manufactures the QuBit, the video server that provides three essential functions for this project including in-theatre storage, compression and control of digital motion pictures. Texas Instruments is providing the digital projectors that the company says outperform film for the first time—especially after a movie’s first week, when torn film, fading and scratches significantly reduce viewing quality. Williams Communications Vyvx Services is providing secure fiber-optic transmission for the digital motion picture through its network operations center and satellite uplink support.

As for The Walt Disney Company, Tarzan, Toy Story 2, Fantasia 2000, Bicentennial Man, Dinosaur and the upcoming 102 Dalmatians and The Emperor’s New Groove have been (or will be) digitally projected in 31 theatres in ten countries around the world via digital data discs shipped to theatres. In the future, cinema delivery will also be by satellite and by fiber wireline. At this event, Disney will outline its vision of where new cinema technology will take the movie business. It will also show digital footage that showcases the possibilities of live event programming on the big screen. Disney’s Motion Picture Group will show satellite-delivered trailers from several upcoming feature films.

…and things can never really be the same. Let’s just hope that Boeing doesn’t get their satellites crossed between the military and entertainment transmissions. ‘Hey, I didn’t know Armageddon was the second feature…’

Most actors have what’s called a “reel”, a tape of what they feel are the shining moments of their career; a greatest hits affair, as it were. The actors and actresses who’ve hit it big don’t rely on reels because they rightly assume people must know who they are by now. For example, Heather Graham needs no reel; after her stints as Rollergirl in Boogie Nights, and as the spy who shags Austin Powers in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, most cats on both sides of the movie screen know who she is.

Dimension Films to Release Kevin Smith’s ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ On August 10, 2001

NEW YORK, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ — Dimension Films will release, “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” written, directed by and starring Kevin Smith, on August 10, 2001, it was announced today by Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of Dimension. The film will open nationwide and will be the largest release for any Kevin Smith film to date.

“We truly enjoy our ongoing relationship with Kevin Smith,” said Bob Weinstein, “We have very high hopes for this project and can’t wait to get started again with Kevin and his team.”

“Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” the final installment of the New Jersey chronicles, will be produced by Smith’s partner Scott Mosier. The story line is being kept under wraps.

Jason Mewes (”Clerks,” “Mall Rats,” “Chasing Amy”), Jason Lee (”Chasing Amy,” “Dogma”), Brian O’Halloran (”Clerks”) and Jeff Anderson (”Clerks”), all View Askew alums, are set to appear in the film, along with Smith.

Ben Affleck (”Chasing Amy,” “Dogma”) and Matt Damon (”Dogma”) are in negotiations to appear in the film, which will begin production in January in Los Angeles.

Jon Gordon, executive vice-president of production, will oversee the project for the film company.

Smith and Mosier were both involved in the production of the other installments of the New Jersey chronicles, Miramax’s “Clerks” and “Chasing Amy” and Gramercy Pictures, “Mall Rats.” They also served as co-executive producers on “Good Will Hunting.”
