  • Whoops! Uh-oh, not again! We fondly remember one of the first stories we posted as News Askew back in 1997 was an arrest of Shannen Doherty after an altercation. Now, it looks like the Mallrats actress has gotten herself in even more trouble, this time doing one of the stupidest things of all, drunk driving. Shame on her. Anyway, interestingly enough, the Yahoo! report used a publicity photo FROM Mallrats to go along with their story. Here’s the info:
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Actress Shannen Doherty, star of the WB network television hit “Charmed,” was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Thursday after officers saw her black pickup truck weaving on a California freeway, police said.

The 29-year-old Doherty, who stars with Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs on “Charmed,” was stopped by officers at about 3 a.m. PST while driving in Thousand Oaks, north of Los Angeles, California Highway Patrol spokesman Mike Moriarty said.

A spokesman for the Memphis, Tennessee-born Doherty, who first shot to fame on the hit TV series “Beverly Hills 90210,” could not be reached for comment on her arrest.

Moriarty said officers had observed Doherty’s truck weaving across lanes of the Ventura Freeway.

Doherty was given a field sobriety test at the scene, Moriarty said, and then taken to jail for a blood test to determine her level of intoxication before she was released several hours later and ordered to be in court on Jan 26.

He said the results of Doherty’s blood-alcohol content test were not immediately available.

The arrest was not Doherty’s first brush with the law. In 1997, a Beverly Hills judge ordered her to attend anger-management counseling after she smashed a beer bottle on a car window during an argument.

Doherty, Combs and Milano star on “Charmed” as the Halliwell sisters of San Francisco, who use witchcraft to vanquish evil.
