- Wow, ya mention a lull and it all goes crazy. Yep, that’s the way of the world around here. But hey, if it generates some activity, then it’s all good. Sadly, this update is too late to mention the George Carlin Biography that aired tonight, and featured some Kevin stuff as well as some Dogma stuff. Many of you wrote in about it, and we’re sorry that the day’s schedule didn’t allow this info to appear sooner. Sometimes we miss them, but hopefully the thing is re-airing late tonight or again soon. Again, we’re sorry for the contest troubles, but entires are fast and furious even with the technical difficulties, you can read below for more on that. Oh, and then there’s a lot of stuff direct from the man himself, a couple newsbites, and more, so let’s roll:

VA5 Page Title Contest III: The Search For Talkbacks™
- Alright, alright. We give up. Seems that the talkback system we’re using either can’t handle a TON of posts on a page, or just can’t handle heavy traffic posting on the system. Nice huh? Well we never claimed to be the most adept of programmers so instead we’re gonna switch this around – We do have all the entires going up to about #107 on the last post, so if you got in around there, you’re good. If not, or if ya got more, send them directly to CHRIS@NEWSASKEW.COM as that’s where they’re going to all be compiled. We realize that this isn’t as fun for you, since you can’t read along with the entires and comment yourselves, but it’s all we can do to at least keep this thing running. What a nightmare! Anyway, for the third friggin time, good luck, we’re sorry, and send away.
Kevin: “Who Wants To Be In A Movie?”
- Alright, so a lot of you want to be extras, but maybe like us you don’t really have the cash to make that flight to the west coast. But hey, there’s still a chance you’ll see your face in View Askew 5. How, might you ask? Kevin’s got the answer:
Well here’s your first chance… sort of.
This suggestion comes courtesy of Scott Mosier (so no more of these “Why does Scott never post here?” and “Because he hates the board!” posts; he cares about you all, children):
Your image (that’s right – a picture of you) can wind up in ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ if we like it enough. Submit your picture (5×7’s, 8×10’s, or any other size) with a brief (very brief) note explaining why your mug needs to be in this flick, and we’ll choo-choo-choose a winner who’ll have the good fortune to see their face on the big screen! How? Well, let a brother break down the deets!
‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ is a road picture, right? So we spend a lot of time on the road. And on the road, there are street lights and telephone poles that have to be ‘dressed’ (decorated) so as not to appear as boring as the film itself. Scooter suggested home-made ‘Missing’ posters which could dot the landscape, affording you – the View Askew Board-ers – the chance to see yourself in the movie.
So…
Send pics (and the above-mentioned note, which must also include a line in which you give us your full permission to use your picture for all forms of exploitation) to…
My Mug In Your Flick, Kev
Askews Me, Inc.
4024 Radford Ave.
Bungalow #20
Studio City, CA 91604
We’ll be picking the winner(s) by Christmas, so rush those puppies our way.
Nude photos will be given extra-careful consideration, but head-shots (not the professional kind; just a pic of your head) are preferred.
What are you waiting for?!? Get thee to the post office!
Kevin On Everything That’s Coming Up…
- Kevin weighs in (pun sadly intended, as this webmaster is weighing in pretty damn well himself these days) on the latest in the View Askew world, including Mewes, DVDs, J&SBSB extras, Green Arrow, and lots more:
Saturday, Mewes came to town (he’s shooting an indie flick in Vegas right now), and we shot the intros for the ‘Clerks’ Cartoon DVD. They’re pretty funny. Look for a special guest appearance in the sixth intro.
On the ‘Clerks’ Cartoon DVD front, Lydia – who’s been busting her ass to make this an awesome package – informed me that it’s now a two disc set. That’s right – so chock full of extras goodness is this puppy that it requires a second platter-that-matters.
January – 2 disc ‘Dogma’ DVD.
February – 2 disc ‘Clerks’ Cartoon DVD.
Save up them sheckles, folks.
Since you’re asking a lot, I DID see ‘Unbreakable’.
I liked it. The ending is way too rushed, but I enjoyed the flick.
Things move along here at the ‘Strike Back’ offices. We continue to lock cast and locations as we careen toward our mid-January start. There will definitely be extras needed for the L.A. stuff, so keep an eye on the board for that announcement.
‘Green Arrow’ issue three is now fully penciled, and Phil and Ande are starting issue four. The book’s been solicited for officially now, so come February, we should be on target (wretched fucking pun intended).
That’s all for now.
Pereira Interview To Appear In Upcoming ‘MicroFilm’…
- Micro-Film is a very cool indie movie magazine that covers the TRUE indies out there. The first two issues were quite impressive, and packed with tons of exclusive information and interviews that you just can’t see anywhere else. Issue #3 is going to be something the View Askew collector wants to pick up, as it features an exclusive interivew with Vincent Pereira, celebrating the soon to be released “A Better Place” DVD. SOON, we mean that! Those that attended or read about this past year’s Vulgarthon know that the flick was all the rage. Here’s details:
To get MICRO-FILM #3, please send $3.50 per copy (post-paid) to:
MICRO-FILM, P.O. Box 45, Champaign, IL 61824-0045
Personal checks, money orders, and well-concealed cash accepted. Please make checks and money orders payable to “Jason Pankoke.” U.S. funds only, please. Foreign: Please add $1.50 per copy for extra shipping costs.
View Askew NewsBites™
- It’s a little late, but Psycomic.com put up the Thanksgiving blessings for each of their columnists and Kev’s is first on the list (and about 5 times as long as anoyone elses!)
- Okay, now on with the Affleck news, as it appears to be plentiful today (All the Affleck.Com’ers coming over here in the disappearance, we suppose?). First off, Affleck’s likeness appears in some sort of wacky made for the web flick over at Icebox (though we dunno how old this one is). Check it out HERE. Also…
- Ben’s got a big appearance coming up on James Lipton’s Inside the Actor’s Studio TV show on Sunday, December 3rd at 8:00 PM EST. If you’re not familiar with the show, It’s an interview format show with talented, established actors on Bravo Network. The coolest part of every Actor’s studio’s episode is the questions at the end.
Whew! That’s a good day’s work…We’ll catch ya at the next one. Oh, and don’t miss that new poll topic, too. We think the point’s already been decided but still, it’d be cool to see what the masses thought.
CONTEST ENTRIES HERE!
- Okay, so it looks like the talkback system here can’t handle an overload, but let’s try it again. The talkback entry for the contest below totally disappeared on us, so please repost and post any new entires here. Let’s hope this one doesn’t go belly up as well. If that happens, we’ll come up with an alternate method.
Until then, please post all those entires for the title contest mentioned 2 stories down right here! Thanks, and sorry for the mishap.
Monday Commentary…
- Well, it’s arguably one of, if not THE toughest day to go back to work after the long 4-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend, and it seems that most of the news agencies have that same opinion. Things have been VERY slow over the weekend, with very little to talk about today even after taking an unusual Sunday off. We’ve gathered up a few tidbits for ya today, but maybe of more interest, started up a little contest to keep things alive around here. You’ll find more info on that below.
ALSO, we had the pleasure of screening “Vulgar” for the first time last week, and will be putting together a non-spoiler review of that one that hopefully help to clear up a bit more about the flick, due for release from Lions Gate sometime next year. Okay, let’s get rollin’:
The “Name Our New VA5 Page” Contest!
- Hey, wanna help name our new page that’s going to be decided to anything and everything having to do with the upcoming “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back”? Want a free Chasing Amy DVD for doing it? Sure ya do! As those of you that have been around for a while recall, we ran a little page called ‘Dogma: Rumor Control’ for the 2 years leading up to the film’s release. While we expect the turnaround time on this new flick to be a bit less, we still plan to have a page right here at News Askew dedicated to the new flick. Unfortunately, “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back Rumor Control” just doesn’t flow and we’re fresh out of ideas. That’s where you come in.
Use the TALKBACKS SECTION attached to this post to submit your entries. If you don’t want to post an e-mail address, that’s fine, we can get it from the Talkback database we’re keeping. Enter as many times as you like, post as many times as ya want, or group all your titles in one big post. We’ll pick our favorite (or, if we have a tough time deciding a standout, maybe run a poll topic to let YOU pick). That winner will get a brand new sealed Criterion Collection Chasing Amy DVD.
We’re running the contest with no definite deadline in mind, but will keep a link handy in case you think of a title in your sleep or a week from now. After we’ve got a title, we’ll be holding a SECOND contest for a logo to be created that uses the new title. So, if you’re feeling REALLY ambitious, you can work on a title AND a logo. Or just wait for the final result. Anyway, good luck…We look forward to your suggestions!

- A few folks have been writing to us to point out the interesting fact that the Clerks: Uncensored cartoon DVD coming out this February has received an “R” rating from the MPAA (this according to the Hollywood Reporter). Anyway, strange as that may seem, a DVD being rated (doesn’t make sense to us), if they DID rate it that way it’s likely due to the commentary and introduction material, NOT the cartoons themselves, as they will remain as they were to air on ABC, aside from the oft-mentioned Flintstones List bit, which WILL be intact.
- A small (and surprisingly non-insulting) mention of Kevin’s upcoming west coast speech appears at the Film Threat website. Should be a blast for all that attend early next month.
- On British TV’s Film Four channel (filmfour.com), they feature a regular segment where directors choose their favourite films, called ‘Double Take’. This month the films in double take are being chosen by the cast of the British ‘Big Brother’ show. Contestant Melanie has chosen to show Clerks, which will be shown at 10pm on Wed 27th Dec on Film Four.
- You can find more information on Kevin’s upcoming Green Arrow series in this excellent article that appears over at Fandom.
- In other comics news, Daredevil:Yellow artist Tim Sale had a brief comment on Kev’s own DD run. Check it out HERE.
- And finally today, maybe Hooper was right! See for yourself.
