- Hey, thanks for stopping by today. Not only is readership way higher than ever here, but we are busier than ever as well. Please bear with us as we try and get out the stories as fast as we can. Just to give an idea, the site’s already busier than we EVER were during Dogma, even when it was a week away from release. If this keeps up we’ll hafta forego sleep or something! Kevin Checks In With The Latest!
- With his hectic schedule (we can relate!) it’s tough to get to the boards, but Kevin did take the time to post an update yesterday which discussed the anniversary of his View Askew website (we’re around a year or so behind that), the goings-on with the film’s score, and the finishing touches on the film. We’re still trying to find time to catch a screening of the flick before its release, but time’s flying by, before ya know it the movie’s gonna be all over the place. Anyway, check out Kev’s post, ESPECIALLY if you plan to head to San Diego this weekend:
Happy Birthday
As pointed out by someone earlier in the week (yes, I may not be posting much lately, but I’m watching; Mother-Sister ALWAYS watches), mid-July marks the fifth year this site’s been in existence. With all that’s been going on with ‘Jay and Silent Bob’, we never got to officially recognize this or make a big deal out of it, which is kind of a shame, as it’s probably the most important aspect of View Askew, outside of the movies themselves. Perhaps if we make it another five years with the site, I’ll do what I’ve threatened to do in the past: throw a party at my house for anyone still interested. But for this first milestone anniversary, all I can do is say “Happy Birthday, www.viewaskew.com.”
We’re in the studio at this moment, recording the score for the flick. Jim’s done a phenomenal job, working first with an 83 piece orchestra on Monday, and now a smaller 53 piece orchestra yesterday and today. Later tonight, we record the choir.
Yes – it’s a BIG score. Big and funky.
Some folks have been speculating about the move from the 24th to the 22nd. This, I’m told, is a vote of confidence. Bob figures the movie to be a word-of-mouth flick, so the Wednesday bow is meant to jump-start the weekend as folks (like yourselves) who go on Wed/Thurs spread the word to those looking for something to see on Friday and Saturday. We’ll see if it pans out, but I tend to trust Bob. He knows what he’s doing.
Tomorrow, we record the last pieces of ADR on the movie, with Mewes, Eliza, and Diedrich, then it’s off to San Diego. The panel’s on Friday, from 2:00 to 5:00p.m. I believe. I’ll be showing a rather large clip from the flick, amongst other goodies. And for a lucky two hundred and fifty attendees, there’s going to be something extra special…
Remember: get to the panel early, and come prepared to ask really good questions. Excellent queries may be rewarded.

- You can now view the other video from the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back soundtrack online, Stroke 9’s “Kick Some Ass”, right HERE! Remember, the Afroman video is also available streaming right HERE. You’ll need the latest version of RealPlayer and at least a 56k connection to enjoy the videos. No idea on any scheduled MTV or MuchMusic airplay for these videos yet, but if we hear of them going into rotation, we’ll be sure and let ya know.
This press release from ICV heralds the film and the upcoming soundtrack, saying that its extra features rival those of stuff you’ll find on DVDs (and will likely appear on the J&SBSB DVD as well). This is one CD soundtrack that every fan’s gotta pick up, and it’s definitely being pushed harder than any we’ve seen before.

- We’ve got some nice exlcusive photos from the San Diego Comic-Con’s preview night for ya right here. Check out that way cool Clerks lunchbox…We NEED a couple of those babies for sure! Too cool. One attendee got into the spirit of the Buddy Christ. Finally, Dimension Films has a booth there running exclusive footage from the film. Of course, as the weekend goes on, we’ll have a lot more exclusive photos and pics from the event. Wish we could be there, but the coverage should be the next best thing to it. Stay tuned!
WizardWorld Q&A With Kevin Online…
- A brand new interview with Kevin Smith for the Wizard World has been placed online at their site. It’s basically what appears in the Kevin Smith Special issue, but with a few questions that AREN’T in the special, such as some stuff about Mewes in other flicks and the like. So, you’ll get even MORE info by checking out this link than even in the book itself. Still, buy the book, it’s FULL of great stuff. Here’s a choice question from the interview:
JM: Why did you have this insanely large cast with all these guys doing one- and two-day parts?
KS: It was the nature of the story. People like Jay and Bob a lot, and they’d always say, “C’mon, make a Jay and Silent Bob movie, just them. It’d be cool.” And I’d always say, “Why?” I mean, one character doesn’t even talk. It’s tough to put those guys in the spotlight. It’s tough to say, “You love them in small spots, now love them for 90 to 100 minutes.” You run the risk of having the audience go, “F— this. I did like them in small doses, but not feature-length.”
So the idea was to spread them out, mix them up with other people. They get a scene or two to themselves, then they meet somebody, and that person gets the focus for a little while. Structurally, it helps break up seeing two guys the entire time.

- Here’s something that might be cool, if Kevin could fit it in. The WB’s new “Smallville” series, coming this fall, which deals with a very young Superman, has one of the co-creators speaking of a desire to work with Kevin on an episode or two. Check out this snip from SciFi.com:
Gough [co-creator of The WB’s upcoming Superman series, Smallville] is evenopen to inviting hopeful Superman Reborn writer Kevin Smith to participatein the show, but doubts Smith will be available. “He’s got like 50 millionfeature projects, but it would be great to talk to him about it.””
“Smallville” does sound like it’s got the potential to be a pretty decent show. Check out the full story HERE.
- The new paperback version of the Chasing Dogma trade has arrived! Check with your local comics shop or order one from the Stash online. As some folks have noticed, there’s quite a few things from this book that even tie directly into Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.
- The new test DVDs must be spreading a bit – AICN’s Coaxial section has a review of the “A Better Place” DVD that’s now up…Though it really does seem like a capsule version of what we’ve written here. Nothing much new, but check it out HERE if you’d like. It’s another positive review, as the disc well deserves.
- Dark Horizons now has the official one-sheet for the new flick “Big Trouble”, which features Jason Lee in a role.
- Well, it DID get a mention! At the very end of Conan O’Brien’s interview with Ali Larter tonight, he mentioned J&SBSB as one of her upcoming flicks. The audience cheered wildly right after that, which is a very good sign!
- Finally today, there’s a pretty sly dig at Kevin over at gothamgirls.com, a site which showcases a series of shockwave movies starring Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and Batgirl from the animated Batman series).
In the current cartoon, Harley Quinn accidentally turns herself into a baby with one of Poison Ivy’s toxins, and as a baby causes havoc at a wax museum the two were going to rob. At the end of the cartoon, two security guards make an observation that you might enjoy. The cartoon is titled “Baby Boom”.
