Kevin Announces Jay & Bob SE, LOTS More!

November 23rd @ 9:11 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Kevin Smith

  • Well when he talks, he REALLY talks. This post from Kevin’s got enough in the major announcement category to get all of you drooling on this Black Friday. This post not only confirms our suspicious of the Jay & Bob DVD indeed being the Special Edition, but summarizes the features AND touches on more big news. Here’s Kevin with everything:
Belated but heartfelt Happy Thanksgiving, all.

Amongst the many things I have to be thankful for, you folks and this weird little cyber-community ranks pretty high.

So thanks to all of you for showing up. I appreciate the hell out of you.

Onto bid-ness…

– We’ve put our end of the “Jay and Silent Bob” DVD to bed. The commentary track (featuring only me, Mosier, and Mewes) was recorded on Tuesday, and the intros to all the cut stuff was shot down at the store on Wednesday. Since there’s been some curiosity as to whether this is, indeed, the Special Edition, let me fill you in on the details.

It is, indeed, the Special Edition, and it’s a two disc set, under the Dimension banner. We were offered the opportunity to shoot very involved, animated menu screens starring Jay and Silent Bob, but I declined, as I HATE animated menus. Initially, we were going to try to put the Mtv Jay and Bob shorts on the discs, but we’ve opted to hold onto those for the next View Askew DVD (the Super, Duper Special Edition “Clerks” 10th Anniversary DVD). The Special Features on the “Jay and Silent Bob” DVD are as follows…

– Commentary Track
– Over an hour of cut scenes, extended footage, and gag reels
– Two “Behind the Scenes” featurettes
– The Music Videos
– The Comedy Central “Reel Comedy with Jay and Silent Bob” Special
– Trailers (theatrical and ‘net versions, as well as TV spots)

You’ll notice the absence of the Documentary that Jen and Malcolm were shooting. That’s being held for the “Clerks” Special Edition, as it’ll give us plenty of time to sift through the 80 plus hours of footage and interviews and come up with something great.

– Ming may have a special announcement for you next week – one we at View Askew are all pleased as punch with.

– If you’re in the Syracuse area next week, I’ll be speaking there on Tuesday. Wyoming is the week after, on December 1st, I believe. Mewes is going to that show too.

– Due to the holiday, “Green Arrow” number ten ships the first week of December.

– I’ve got big news concerning me and “The Tonight Show” that I’ll hip you to next week, along with a surprising announcement about “Dogma”.

– I’ve become a columnist again. The UK’s Arena magazine has offered me a monthly gig. Look for my first installment in December or January, complete with a cover blurb.

– We’re doing an overhaul on the back of the Stash that should be done just in time for Vulgarthon. Look for new props and whatnot to be on display then.

And that’s about it, off the top of my head.

Quite a TON of cool info…If that Clerks DVD doesn’t sound like a MUST HAVE! We’ll be following that one closely. Great news about the DVD, that’s gotta be a record turnaround time for a View Askew special edition. Great to see the wheels spinning so fast with stuff. Anyway, stay tuned, as we’ll be watching and waiting for the week’s big announcements, and as always have full coverage for you right here!

And Furthermore…

  • Naturally, Kevin’s post prompted a TON of questions, a lot of which he was kind enough to answer. You might be interested to know the following:
  • Jersey Girl begins shooting in July 2002.
  • Kevin will start writing “Clerks: Sell Out” with Dave Mandel once he’s done drafting “Jersey Girl”.
  • On the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back Documentary: “We haven’t even had time to load all the material into the Avid (let alone cut it together), and Dimension wanted to lock up the DVD release of “Jay and Silent Bob” by this week (i.e. – any material on the DVD had to be in by Wednesday). It was either do two editions of “Jay and Bob” (one stripped down and one SE, as Col/Tristar did with “Dogma”), or do one edition of “Jay and Silent Bob” and stick the massive documentary on the already-in-the-pipeline “Clerks” re-release. The latter made more sense, as most people want “Jay and Silent Bob” and couldn’t give two shits about a documentary.”
  • And speaking of that Clerks SE: “It’s just going to have the three to four hour documentary, a new, extra-long cut of the flick that’s digitially restored with footage never before seen, and a new commentary track with ALL the leads (Brian, Jeff, Marilyn, Lisa, Mewes, Mosier, and me). The disc is still two years away, mind you.”. The disc will be released in 2004 to celebrate the film’s 10th anniversary, so don’t put those pre-orders in just yet.
