- Lowes Cineplex theaters are having an auction with the proceeds going to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Their auctions involve a unique, cool idea – Popcorn buckets designed by celebrities. One of the buckets is designed by Affleck and the rest of the Daredevil cast including Colin Farrell and Jenifer Garner. To place a bid, check out the item HERE.
- Right on schedule, The Fourth Rail logged their review of Spidey/Black Cat #3 — Yet again they recommend this book, scoring it an 8/10. Don’t forget to pick this issue up! It’s now arriving at comic stores everywhere.
- The trailer for Jason Lee’s “A Guy Thing” is now up in the wonderful Quicktime format, at the official Apple Quicktime site. Speaking of Lee, the trailer for “Dreamcatcher” should be attached to a bunch of “The Ring” prints (the creepy flick opens up this Friday, the 18th).
- And speaking of that flick, the prize in this week’s Bikkit.com “Guess the Gross” contest is a Mallrats Blueprint poster (Operation Drive-By). The contest is to guess the opening weekend gross of The Ring.

- Speaking of UK stuff, Chasing Amy is showing on one of the main British TV channels this Saturday, BBC2, at 10:30 PM.
- The great Silent Bob is quoted today over at the Moviepunks website.
- And finally today, here’s an interesting blurb on Affleck/Damon-produced “The Third Wheel” from this article on delayed film releases:
“Sometimes you have to face the fact that some movies are better off on TV or DVD than in a theater,” explains Miramax Films co-chief Harvey Weinstein. “You’re asking a lot of an audience to pay nearly $10 to see a movie, so you don’t want them to feel cheated.”
Most of these movies never see the light of day for an all-too-obvious reason: They’re awful. In its review of “D-Tox,” which was released overseas earlier this year, Variety called the film “almost totally merit-free.” One Internet review of a “Third Wheel” test screening called it “a laugh-free comedy,” saying Wilson was “excruciating to watch” in the lead role. Even Weinstein admits that “The Third Wheel” would be better off as a video release. But since Affleck and Matt Damon, who have close ties with Miramax, produced the film, Weinstein says he’ll let them make the final call.
“It’s up to Ben,” says Weinstein. “He’s going to run the company someday anyway, so I have to be nice to him.”
Affleck run Miramax? Wow. Hopefully that means we’ll have a job for a lot of years…
