Paulsboro Street To Become “Kevin Smith Way”…

October 10th @ 6:35 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by JudyMack, Shoanne

  • Well, here’s some very cool, unexpected news! It seems that the town of Paulsboro has been pleased with how things are going with filming and the excitement it’s brought the town…So pleased, in fact, that they’re naming a street in the town after Kevin himself! The “official ceremony” may take place as soon as Monday or Tuesday NEXT WEEK! We’ll keep you up to date on this, in case you’d like to attend. In the meantime, here’s a story from Paulsboro on the event:
Kevin Smith to get his ‘Way’ in Paulsboro

By Brian Arrington

PAULSBORO — Though it may be a while until “Jersey Girl” director Kevin Smith wins an Academy Award, it looks like the bearded movie maker is going to have a street named after him.

Mayor John Burzichelli confirmed rumors Wednesday that plans are in the works to honor Smith with his own street, turning Tyler Street into Kevin Smith Way.

Burzichelli said since filming of the Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck flick “Jersey Girl” began in several locales in the riverfront borough last month, the profile of the working-class community has increased and naming a street after Smith was a fitting way to honor him.

“He has brought a level of excitement and has exposed the neighborhood and residents in the neighborhoods to something different,” Burzichelli said. “People have enjoyed it and we just want to commemorate his contribution.”

Tyler Street was tapped to be Smith’s street because it leads to the entrance of Paulsboro High School — the location of several scenes shot in the community — and will be seen by many residents who attend sporting events there.

It also could be because no one calls the two-block street home.

Linda Martin has lived on the corner of Tyler and North Delaware streets for four years and said the change won’t affect her in any way.

“I don’t know who Tyler was and I don’t know who Kevin Smith is,” she said. “It wouldn’t make a difference to me.”

Mike McMahon, a 14-year-old whose brother was in a baseball scene, was skateboarding down Tyler Street Wednesday when he was told about the plan.

“That’s that ‘Silent Bob’ guy, right?” McMahon asked, referring to Smith’s recurring, mostly mute character.

Burzichelli said details about renaming the street have yet to be finalized but could be by early next week.

Representatives at Smith’s production company, View Askew, declined to comment.

“Push, Nevada” Shelved…

October 10th @ 6:34 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Alonso Duralde

  • We’re very sad to read that “Push, Nevada” has apparently been cancelled, yet another casualty of ABC. The show was actually quite compelling, though we’d guess that audiences yet again got confused by the quirky Twin Peaks-esque characters and situations. Shame, too, as each episode was doing a fine job and filling viewers in on what they missed in previous episodes just fine. Oh well. Anyway, the seventh and final episode will air on October 24th. After that, enough clues will have been given to allow viewers to solve the mystery and win the $1 million-plus jackpot. Bring it on!

Anyway, to Ben & Sean and everyone else that worked on that show — We liked it. Maybe someday the public will be ready for a unique show like Push, instead of another police show. Not that police shows are bad, but with 3 Law and Orders, 2 CSIs, and more, a little variety never hurts.

Mewes “Powder” Video Available!

October 10th @ 6:33 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by HMC, Scott Kramer

  • The POWDER music video featuring Jason Mewes and produced by CHASING KEVIN’s Scott Kramer and producer Khene Tan is now online. It’s a catchy tune and Mewes is clearly featured in the vid as a thief. And if that’s not enough for ya, guys, yes, there’s also a scantily clad female lead singer. Sold? We’ve got 2 streaming locations for ya, first, the one we’d recommend is a QuickTime streaming at: http://www.hayeshandpiece.com/mv/powder001.html.

There’s also a Windows Media version of the video located HERE.

The video was directed by Stuart Acher who was featured in the recent Jeffrey Well’s column on movie poop shoot. Enjoy, but expect slow download times once everyone starts trying to watch the video at the same time.

News Askew Visits “Jersey Girl”!

October 8th @ 8:48 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • On Friday night, we drove into Paulsboro, New Jersey, where Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler were filming a couple scenes from “Jersey Girl”. While we were only on set for half of the night shoot, we do have a fairly decent report to log. The report is completely spoiler free, but don’t expect a lot of excitement, as it was only a couple of scenes that we sat in for. Still, if you’re interested in hearing how things look and happen on location, this report’s for you! Click HERE or visit our Exit 37 Jersey Girl Site for the full report.

  • Now this is a really cool, inspired idea. The official View Askew site has posted a complete costume guide on dressing up as your favorite characters from the films. Find direct links to the Stash for movie replicas, as well as photos and tips on finding clothes at your local stores to match the likes of Jay, Silent Bob, Brodie, Alyssa, Walt, Missy, Sissy, Chrissy, Justice, Dante, Randal, and more! With this guide, it should be easier than ever to put together a cool costume for those upcoming Halloween shindigs. Or better yet, get a big group together and go as an entire film cast. Kudos to Ming and anyone else who had a hand in this, it’s a way cool idea.

Auctions Askew Returns!

October 8th @ 8:46 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Ming

  • Auctions Askew is back, with a milestone week 25 of 5 new View Askew items up for grabs. This week sees an item that we believe may very well be the most popular item to hit the block yet — That’s right, folks — THE screen worn black trenchcoat that Ben Affleck used in DOGMA! It’s a Hugo Boss coat, tailored for Affleck himself, authentic and a major collector’s item. But hey, for those of you that aren’t quite as deep in the pockets, there’s still other goodies, including a cast and crew signed Vulgar poster, a French Dogma jacket, and more. Good luck, folks, and may all your bids be high.

UPDATE: The coat, sadly, has been removed from the auction block. Guess the folks at View Askew decided it was too valuable of an item to let go. We can’t blame ‘em.

  • Here’s today’s Jersey Girl blurb from the Philly Inquirer. We knew the Hard Rock Cafe filming was coming (and believe today was a day with the cafe FILLED with extras, so we’re sure a lot of reports will be forthcoming):
Big enough for two

We’re glad the crews of “Jersey Girl” and “Hack” didn’t come to blows over parking spaces yesterday.

There was plenty of room for both sets of trucks and trailers along 12th and Filbert streets, where both production companies set up shop.

Adopted homeboy Ben Affleck and Jason Biggs were shooting a scene for the Kevin Smith film inside the Hard Rock Cafe at 12th and Market, while “Hack” star and true local boy David Morse was shooting outside the Residence Inn by Marriott across from City Hall.

Good thing J.Lo wasn’t on set; there might not have been enough parking for her entourage.

Full story HERE!

  • Looks like all that crazy stuff regarding Jay Mewes’ supposed disappearance a few weeks back got lampooned in the latest “Movie Punks” web comic strip online today.
  • An article at Online Hermes, the NorthEast’s Greek Life newspaper, discusses the ups and downs of a relationship that was rekindled during one of Kevin’s Q&A sessions at Syracuse. It’s under the Cover Stories section, though you’ll hafta register to read it.
  • MA Galluzzo, director of RSVP (with Jason Mewes) will appear at the Austin Film Festival and Writers Conference tomorrow. He’s speaking on two panels at the festival: “Competition Filmmakers Roundtable” (Thursday Oct 10th at 2:45 – 4:00 p.m.) and “New Director’s Workshop” (Friday Oct 11th at 3:45 – 5:00). “RSVP” screens Friday night, Octover 11th and Tuesday, the 15th, both at 9:30 at the Westgate 11 in Austin.

Comedy Central Buys “Clerks: TAS”!

October 8th @ 7:12 am | No Comments » | Scooped by James White

  • Cable network Comedy Central has picked up the broadcast rights to the original Clerks cartoon series episodes that ABC dumped after airing just 2 episodes a couple summers back. If you’ve yet to purchase the DVD, here’s a chance to see the great stuff that you’re missing. A blurb from the article:
“Clerks” will also get a one-time-only six-episode marathon, highlighted by four half-hours that never played on ABC. The marathon will take place Sunday, Dec. 22, beginning at 9 a.m.

Read the whole piece HERE. We’ve got a lot more news coming later today, including details from our recent Jersey Girl set visit, so stop back! We just wanted to get this big story out there as soon as possible.
