Radio Alice: Listen To The Final Day!

March 6th @ 4:24 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We went through the final two days of Kevin’s broadcasts, and haven’t found much that’s newsworthy that we didn’t already report previously. Kevin dropped the major bombs on the first day, which you can find below. A few minor things we learned…
Kevin again confirmed Clerks 2 will be VERY low on extras, thus we expect a very small scale film, similar to the first.

Vulgarthon: Kevin’s staying away from mentioning guests, however, again told us to “connect the dots”, which we still assume means that Affleck, Lee, and Adams (or at least 2 of the 3) will be in attendance for the Chasing Amy 10th Anniversary Q&A to be filmed for the DVD.

All three days of Alice feeds are available right here, in MP3 format. So listen away or toss them on your trusty iPod or player of choice.

Kevin LIVE on BBC Radio Next Week!

March 6th @ 4:23 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • On Wednesday, March 9th, Kevin will be a guest on Phill Jupitus’ radio show. It can be found on
BBC 6 Music after the filming of his Q&A show in London. Want to listen? You can do it LIVE from anywhere on the
planet by going HERE and surfing up Phill’s page.

With the time difference, we realize this may be tricky, so they’ll also have the show available to listen to ON DEMAND
for a full week following the broadcast. If this radio thing keeps up, we might think Kevin’s starting a new career
here…

First Word: Mewes In “Independent Movie”…

March 6th @ 4:22 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Joey JP

  • A couple of months ago, we broke a scoop of a film from Chris Gore titled “My Big Fat Independent
Movie”. The film is a spoof of the indie genre. At the time, the post mimicked Clerks so we figured that there would
be some Askew type gags in the flick. Sadly, early word has this not being the case, as a screening was just held.
However, a familiar voice from VA does play a part in the fun. Here’s the report:
Hey guys, I remember reading on the newsaskiew website a while back that Mewes had been working on a non-View Askew film. What that film was at the time, me mind is a bit hazy there. But alas, here in San Jose, CA at our annual film festival, Cinequest, I saw a film last night, “My Big Fat Independent Movie.” The description is along the lines of what “Blazzing Saddles” did for westerns, and what “Scary Movie” did for horrow movies. So this flick would do the same for independent films.

Well anyways as the voice of an answering machine, is none other than Jason Mewes. A nice surprise in a pretty good film. But I was surprised there wasn’t any reference to anything else View Askew.

There was a post Q&A after the screening, and I asked about why no “Clerks” ? Basically, they couldn’t fit all they wanted to put in. One of the things left on the cutting room floor was the diner scene from “Chasing Amy.” The film was Written by Chris Gore and Directed by Philip Zlotorynski. Later.

Perhaps we’ll see form Clerks stuff in the eventual deleted scenes section of the film’s DVD. We’ll keep you posted.

  • A show featuring Kevin being interviewed at the west coast Stash will air in LA on KCAL TV this
Wednesday, March 9th at 6:30 p.m. The program is KCAL’s “9 on the Town.” You can find KCAL broadcasting on channel
9, or check your cable/satellite provider. We’ll likely soon have a copy of this for you to see online since it’s only
    airing locally in that area.
  • Kevin made an appearance on 97.1 FM’s FILM FREAK show on Saturday night. The show is a movie-themed
program, much different than the stuff he’d been doing for Alice all week. We’re getting in a copy of the show as we
missed getting word to you on this, so watch News Askew for your chance to listen to the program this week.
  • MTV has also picked up the
story regaring that possible Fletch Won casting. Laker Jim’s Fletch Won site has also of
course picked up on this and is covering the story.
  • And last, but certainly not least, God Herself, Alanis Morissette, will commemorate the 10th anniversary of her debut
album “Jagged Little Pill” by releasing a newly recorded acoustic version
on June 13. Count us in! See ya next time, and thanks for coming by!

  • Here’s a nice write-up
of Kevin’s 3-day stint on the radio this week. Also, we’ve added mp3 files of day 3 to our original news story. Just
    to those files.
THE DIRECT ROUTE: Filmmaker Kevin Smith (‘Clerks,’ ‘Dogma,’ ‘Mallrats’) tries his luck as a radio show host today (3/3) — a job he knew nothing about just two days ago. While Kevin was doing an interview Tuesday with San Francisco radio station Alice 97.3 to promote his March 28 Vulgarthon 2005 film festival at Hollywood’s Arclight Cinerama Dome, one of the regular co-hosts asked Kevin to replace their other host while he is on paternity leave. Without hesitation, Kevin agreed and soon set plans to fly to S.F. yesterday to take on the fill-in job the rest of the week.
