Kevin Takes Over The UK (For A Night)!

March 9th @ 9:54 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Sam Baron, Tom Smith

  • Kevin wrapped up filming for the “Evening Harder” DVD with jam-packed, sold-out Q&A session in
London, England on Monday night. Fans in attendance got to rock the mic and watch Kevin field 4 hours worth of
questions, all of which will be trimmed and combined with the Canada show to create a brand new DVD filled with hours
of hilarious anecdotes. Now that filming’s done, we should start hearing word on the editing process and hopefully
soon have some hints of a release date for the project.

If you’ve got a fun story to share from the show, feel free to send it in for us. You can also read a lot of the
chatter going on about the event at The Board.

No major news to report from the Q&A, as we figure Kevin’s saving the big stuff for Vulgarthon later this month. We’ll
be there covering that with up to the minute reports, so it’ll be an exciting day to sit in front of News Askew at a PC
if you can’t make the show.

For a more personal approach to the show, check out Sam Baron’s site and the film
“Jerks”, which chronicles his journey to the UK Q&A session, mostly featuring the massive line
waiting to get in (look at all those fans!). It’s around a 6 meg download in Windows Media format.

of this story.

UK: Kevin On Jupitus, Tour, More…

March 9th @ 9:54 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Man are we ever jealous! Hanging with the genius of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright! Kevin’s still doing the UK thing, as you can see from this recent post:
Went out to dinner last night with Anthony (my Arena editor), JM (the director on “Evening With”), their wives, my
wife, and Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg of “Shaun of the Dead” fame (fucking excellent, excellent guys who, like myself,
speak geek). In half an hour, I’m doing the Phil Jupitus show and starting my UK “Silent Bob Speaks” book press day.

So you want to hear the Phil Jupitus show? You got it! We’ve posted a local copy of the show (with thanks to
SilverLurker for the speedy encoding). Download it HERE, in MP3 format!

Kevin also finally adds:

Barring this tonsilitis crippling me, I’ll be back in the studio with the Phils tomorrow, ’round 8:30am.

Tonsilitis HURTS. Feel better, Kev.

Empire UK On The Big Q&A…

March 9th @ 9:53 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Dan Hutchins

  • Kev’s over the big pond doing the UK thing this week, as you know, and some of the more well-known
publications over there have been covering that little Q&A session that took place earlier this week.
Empire Online reveals some interesting new bits, including some
details on Kevin’s “Southland Tales” character, Clerks 2 hints, and even a new role for Mewes:
“Fanny-fun” is not a phrase you usually expect to hear coming from the mouth of a successful film director. It’s not every auteur that will entertain a crowd by acting out how the Lord Of The Rings trilogy should have ended (clue: it involves hot ‘n’ heavy hobbit-on-hobbit action). And it’s not — as far as we know — standard practice in Hollywood for an industry heavy-hitter to dress in a massive overcoat, shorts and chequered slip-ons.

So the man in question had to be Kevin Smith — and indeed the Clerks director was in London last night to entertain the masses at An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder. On stage with his good friend Jason Mewes, Smith riffed hilariously on things he likes (Star Wars, Meet Joe Black, Law & Order, his wife’s Playboy spread) and things he doesn’t (the 3am Girls, chavs, Camilla and Charles). In fact, the View Askew main man gabbed almost non-stop for over 4 hours — so it was inevitable that he’d spill a few morsals of movie news along the way.

First up was the forthcoming Southland Tales, Richard Kelly’s first movie since Donnie Darko. Smith confirmed that he will play a key character alongside Sarah Michelle Geller and Seann William Scott — more specifically, “a guy who runs a really popular website running gossip for Southlands, an area in south Los Angeles”. He only recently learned that his character won’t have any legs (”I’m gonna be Lieutenant Dan!”), although he refused Kelly’s request a couple of weeks ago that he lose 50lb (”You lose my legs, you lose 50lb right there”) and shave his head (”No way, man, this shit is thinning already”).

When grilled on Clerks 2, he revealed that the sequel will be a lot more visually sophisticated than the black-and-white original, mainly because his regular cinematographer complained that “he can’t get work making shitty-looking movies”. The casting for the film is complete — and it won’t be chock-full of cameos like Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. Instead, “it’s about the same dudes ten years down the line, older but not the least bit wiser.”

Oh, and for all you Jason Mewes fans out there, the ultimate slacker dude is keeping busy too — after celebrating two years out of rehab, Mewes will be joining Paris Hilton and Paul Walker for a $3 million movie “about fucking”.

“Reel Paradise” @ Lake County FF…

March 9th @ 9:53 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Nat Dykeman

  • We’ve just got word that the Lake Country Film Festival will show both “My Big Fat Independent Movie” as well as the excellent View Askew Produced “Reel Paradise” (a rare chance to catch this one early). Now, the catch is that Kevin takes the stage in Crystal Lake just a few miles away the night RP premieres. BUT…If you didn’t get tix or just prefer to see the flick, it’s an option. Here’s the scoop:
I wanted to drop you guys a line and let you know about the Lake County Film Festival.

Our website won’t be updated with the schedule until tomorrow, but, I wanted to let you guys know what’s going on.

First, we’ve got that non-Askew Jason Mewes movie, “My Big Fat Independent Movie” It is true that one of the many poster covers for the film is a take off on clerks, (http://www.mybigfatindependentmovie.com/posters/index_clerks.html), but there aren’t any Clerks references in the movie. One shot where people fall out of the sky sort of reminds me of Dogma. You can see that in the trailer on the site. This movie is showing Saturday April 2nd at 9:30pm.

Secondly, we’ve got that non-Kevin Smith directed View Askew movie, “Reel Paradise”. Unfortunately, “Reel Paradise” is scheduled about 30 minutes after Kevin Smith takes the stage in Crystal Lake, a mere 20 minutes away. I can’t imagine any View Askewer choosing “Reel Paradise”, but, maybe those shut out of tickets would want to come. I swear I didn’t find out about Kevin Smith’s appearance until after Reel Paradise was booked. The whole object of the festival is that there is not enough going on, expecially film-wise in Lake County, and now there’s two things at the same time!

I didn’t intended to have two Askew-related produections at the festival, but, it certainly feels serendipitous that I do.
