Kev/Clerks II Clippage At MTV Overdrive!

June 29th @ 9:09 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brandon Angelilli, Kevin Spellman

  • MTV’s Overdrive is a broadband based video channel. You may need to install a plugin for your browser to access it, and of course a high speed connection is needed to use it. Right now, at the top of their queue, you’ll find three brand new interview clips with our very own Kevin Smith. You’ll ALSO find TWO EXCLUSIVE clips of Clerks II for the web. Yes, these can be considered spoilers, the first quite minor, if you’ve watched any trailers or ads, the second, a bit less so. Still nothing major of course, plot-wise. And of course, Kevin always gives good interview.

The clip tiles and info:

Kevin Smith: “A Man With Very Little Talent?”
Kevin Smith: “A $5 An Hour Mentality”
Kevin Smith: “Jason Mewes Gives His Motel Room An Extreme Makeover”
Exclusive Clerks II Clip: “Dancing The Boredom Away”
Exclusive Clerks II Clip: “Learning the ABCs”

We had quite a bit of problems with both Internet Exploer and Mozilla Firefox with the Overdrive page, here’s hoping the bugs are fixed or you folks have better luck when you try.

Kevin Smith: The Atlanta Report!

June 29th @ 9:09 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Amy Windham

  • Scooper “Amy” has an outstanding summary today, in her words, of what transpired with Kevin’s Atlanta press junket today — Looks like she covered most of what was aired, and quite well at that, so we’ll let her take it away with her report:
Kevin just got off the air on Atlanta and Company after doing a string of radio interviews.

Kev was on 96 Rock from 7:30 till 8:06. The Regular Guys were into Kevin and discussed more about making movies in general. Superman was a main topic…covering Kevin’s script and all the others left in the hollywood wake of the many versions of Superman. Kevin took a look at one of Larry’s movies and gave an honest (of course) critique. There wasn’t a lot of Clerks 2 chatter, but it was a good warm up for the rest of the morning. To listen to the segment, go to: www.96rock.com

The next stop was a stroll down the hall to another Clear Channel station, 105.3 The Buzz (interview from 8:10 till 8:24). It was obvious that Whip and the rest of the Buzz staff were fanboys. They did a much better job getting into more View Askew news. They chatted about Mewes and Affleck–while avoiding the current Boston sillyness.

The next stop was CNN. I caught the promo for the interview with Adrianna, but missed the interview (my damn job got in the way). I did tape an hour of CNN Headline news and if I got the interview on tape I will send more info on later.

The last live appearance for the day was on Atlanta and Company, a daily news/entertainment show. Firfer, who is also a morning DJ on DaveFM did a great job. She was very well versed in all things Askew. I do hope that this interview will be available online somewhere. Firfer did ask about the possibility of Clerks 3 as a look at the 40 something life of Dante and Randal. Kev said that if he’s got something to say about being 40 when the time comes he’d love to see where our other favorite duo would be in their 40s. Kev chatted about each of the movies and it was great to see that Firfer actually knew about each of the movies and the characters. There was some funny moments about the lack of ability to get laid in Pittsburgh (referring to Damon and Affleck and their timing of the Oscar and filming Dogma). Kev got even funnier when he spoke of his wedding and the “sumo wrestler” type sex that may have happened while at the Skywalker Ranch when Jennifer ! was 8 months pregnant. I’m sure he won the hearts of all geeks mentioning the idea of an R2-D2 filled honeymoon.

We thank her for the excellent report! Next stop tomorrow is Toronto, Canada. Great city. We’re sure he’ll have some more fantastic press up there, and we’ll of course have the coverage right here! See you then.

Kev Strikes Back!

June 29th @ 9:09 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Kevin Smith

  • It’s always a hoot when the press thinks they can get away with turning sarcastic quotes into “big” news…especially when Kevin is involved, since he ALWAYS calls them on it. Here’s today’s blog:
Am I mad at Ben Affleck?

Been reading about how mad I’m supposed to be for not being cast in “Gone, Baby, Gone”. Not that I should have to clarify this, but it’s patently untrue: I am not mad, hurt, or “fuming” at not getting cast in Ben’s flick.

Christ, is it really such a slow news week that what was obviously me joking around has become some kind of column item? I swear…

Lesson learned: if you do press in Boston, and somebody asks you about Ben, just refuse to comment or say anything about the man. Don’t joke about him. Don’t even say the word “Ben”. Because when you do, this kinda shit happens…

Horseshit…

Utter horseshit…

You’ve gotta be willfully retarded to take those comments I made seriously. Jesus – irony really is dead.

Was I “fuming” when I cracked that joke? No. Am I “fuming” now? Yes – and NOT at Ben.

Must have been a slow news day for those folks…again.

  • Recent scoopers who have had the chance to talk to Brian or Jeff have heard that they’re speculating a 2007 or 2008 release for the direct-to-DVD Clerks animated movie. Sounds about right to us from what Kevin’s been speculating. We still know the film will happen, no matter what, but there remains no official date. We’ll of course track this project as it moves along.
  • For more information on the Australian premiere of “My Name Is Earl” tonight, visit their TV website.
  • Clerks gets another quick nod in this MTC article on the band “Supernova”, who will search for a new lead singer on TV this summer on reality show “Rock Star”. They did the tune “Chewbacca” on the Clerks soundtrack. Read a bit more and catch another Clerks ref HERE as well.
  • AOL news is running a piece entitled, “You Gotta Start Somewhere,” about current stars in music videos before they became famous. Among others, the article features Jason Lee in Sonic Youth’s video “100%.” The article talks a very little bit about Lee’s past as a skateboarder in which capacity he appears in the video. They also offer the video to be watched on-demand.
  • Ya gotta love the world of indie filmmaking…It’s what got View Askew to where it is today. The tradition continues, too, with guys like this whose filmmaking blog cites a recent photo and sighting of the famous Dogma church while shooting in Pittsburgh. Check it out, and we’ll see ya next time.
