Vulgarthon: Thanks & Continuing Coverage…

June 2nd @ 8:41 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • With the biggest event in View Askew history now in the books, we look back on a fantastic time, the great people we met, and the event itself, brilliantly organized and orchestrated by Ming Chen. For those of you there: Thanks so much for making this a total blast. By far, the best fans in the world are View Askew fans, and you’re all class acts. Special thanks also to all the celeb guests who we had the chance to spend some time with: Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Brian O’Halloran, Malcolm Ingram, Mattt Potter, Jen Schwalbach, and Susannah Grant. One of the most magical things about the Red Bank Vulgarthons is the amazing accessibility to everyone, and the interactions between fans and creators. With a two day event, this was probably the most laid-back, easygoing crowd we’ve ever seen. Many folks stayed for both days, allowing them time to see films they want to see once, twice, or not at all — So the action outside the theaters was just as exciting as what was going on inside.

As we roll into the weekend, keep an eye on our Vulgarthon 2006 page for updated coverage and photos from us. Also, as news, tales, and photos from all of YOU come in, we’ll be supplementing our coverage with that as well. Thanks again to everyone involved for making Vulgarthon 2006 our best event yet.

Kevin ON Opie & Anthony: Full Clippage!

  • We’d like to thank Will, quite possibly the best capture guy in the View Askew world, for taking the time to create custom versions of Kevin’s Opie & Anthony studio appearance earlier this week. He’s taken out all the fluff, all of Kevin’s non-studio time, but left in stuff to allow everything to remain in context. So, while it’s not the entire show, it’s everything you should need to hear to not miss any of the hilarious Kev moments.

Don’t forget to listen to Will’s excellent View Askew & pop culture podcast, Radio Askew. They’re up to episode #36 and going strong. Great show.

  • Clerks II is winning the Movie Poll over at Joblo.com called ‘Which movie shown at Cannes are you most looking forward to seeing?’. And rightfully so!
  • Seems Affleck had some minor health issues earlier this week, according to the IMDB. We wish him well:
Affleck Rushed to Hospital

Good Will Hunting star Ben Affleck spent his Memorial Day holiday on Monday, in the hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, after developing serious migraine headaches. The actor’s wife, Alias star Jennifer Garner, drove him to hospital and he was released after receiving emergency treatment. According to a statement released by the star’s representative Ken Sunshine on Monday, “Ben Affleck was treated for a migraine at Mt Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, today. He was released this afternoon, and is recuperating at home.” The celebrity couple are spending the summer in Cambridge with six-month-old daughter Violet, while Affleck directs his first feature film Gone, Baby, Gone.

  • And while we’re doing gossipy stuff, here’s what MSN has on Matt Damon’s upcoming baby arrival:
Matt Damon and Luciana Bozan are thinking pink. The New York Daily News reports the soon-to-be-parents, who tied the knot in December, are having a girl and plan to christen her with the lovely and tease-proof tag Isabella. A rep for Damon, who is already stepdad to Bozan’s 8-year-old daughter, Alexia, confirms the impending arrival’s gender but remains mum on her moniker.
  • Check out the Chasing Amy reference in #10 (Sixteen Candles) of this fun MSN article on movies that would have been better without happy endings:
“No, of course not. But, like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and male-friendly lesbians (kidding!), that sort of high-school-aged boy doesn’t exist. At least, not trapped inside the body of a Calvin Klein model.”
