- Brian O’Halloran joins a legendary cast in the new to DVD “Brutal Massacre: A Comedy”, and we’ve got copies to give away! Amongst the goodness, we’re also extremely lucky to have some SIGNED posters for the film as well, a few of which are signed by almost the entire cast – That includes Brian, Gunnar Hansen, Gerry Bednob, David Naughton, Ellen Sandweiss, Theresa Tilly, Betsy Baker, writer/director Stevan Mena, Vincent Butta and co-producer Tim Bristoll. REALLY REALLY COOL. Yep, you wanna win.
We could go all crazy and make you answer trivia or something silly like that, but nope, we’re easy to please. Just send an e-mail to scoops@newsaskew.com with the Subject: “Contest”. In the e-mail, include your name, e-mail, and mailing address where you’d want the prize sent. Don’t worry, we don’t give this stuff away or sell it, your privacy is safe with us. We delete all entries after the contest so it’s not about collecting your info.
One simple rule – ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. It doesn’t matter if you have 5 mailing addresses or 50 e-mail addresses, enter once. We’ll write to confirm your entry. Anyone caught with multiple entries will be immediately disqualified.
Winners will be picked from a random draw. Contest ends at 11:59:59 EST on July 30th. We’ll announce the lucky winners and their prizes right here at News Askew. One grand prize winner will get a DVD and the signed poster. Other winners will receive a DVD, signed poster, or poster.

- The big “Spaced” event at Laser Blazer and Stash West is just two days away, and our jealousy grows with every passing minute on having to miss it. The DVD release has been nabbing a ton of press, including an extensive article from LA Weekly along with a printed version of the ad. What’s that translate to? Even BIGGER waiting lines! We’re telling you, get there EARLY on Wednesday! There’s rumors going around that the signing may run a little longer than expected, which is good for those that line up, but we’re still going to bet on the line being cut at some point, as the group does need to make it over the Arclight for an appearance later in the day. So please, if you miss your chance, don’t complain to us — We’re warning you, reserve your spot and don’t miss your chance to meet these modern legends, some of the funniest and most creative in the biz.

- With the first large group of you seeing some live footage at Comicon next weekend, we’re sure that “Zack And Miri Make a Porno” will see a ton of press in the coming weeks. Until then, a few reviews have been trickling onto the web, from folks lucky enough to have caught test screenings. Recently, the film tested in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and as a result, a fan sent JoBlo a very positive, low spoiler look at the film. Of course, we’re TOLD low spoiler but we can’t say for sure. Why? Well, we’re not reading it. But in case you want to, we wanted to let you know.
Our scoopers tell us that this is the most flattering review of the movie that they’re seen yet. Check it out over at JoBlo. We did do a quick eye skim and manage to find this paragraph which is totally non-spoiler and sums it up nicely:
I don’t want to give too much of the plot away, and I won’t, but I’ll say that the film is a real crowd pleaser. It falls in line with the smart, raunchy yet heartfelt comedies, like “Knocked Up” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and truth is, it’s a breath of fresh air. Kevin Smith makes a balls-to-the-walls Kevin Smith comedy, without the in-jokes and movie trivia that alienated some of the more idiotic element of moviegoers. This film has the same broad appeal as the Judd Apatow films, with a Kevin Smith touch.
Kevin’s recommended that fans stay away from reviews to enjoy the film in its purest form, and we certainly agree. So, we’ll be doing our best to steer you clear of spoilers, and hope that you’ll wait until the Fall to enjoy it on the big screen without having spoiled any plot or jokes. It’s getting closer, folks — We sure can’t wait to once again experience View Askew projected bliss with a live audience. Only a few short months to go.

Our story on the current NC-17 rating for “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” raised some eyebrows – Cool flick site Cinemablend remains as optimistic as we are — We’re thinking the title alone had the MPAA gunning for the rating, and are hopeful for the appeal process to work in the favor of View Askew. We’ll keep ya posted. G4 TV’s The Feed also picked up the story and aired it on their network this week.
Video mashups on Youtube are all the rage these days — One fan used video from “Revenge of the Sith” and audio from “Clerks” to mash two memorable scenes together making a pretty strange little creation. Check it out.
