Will The “Chasing Amy X” DVD Live On Blu-Ray?

December 2nd @ 6:19 am | 2 Comments » | Scooped by Ron, Tim Brooks

  • Blu-ray DVD fansite Blu-ray.com reveals that Kevin has continued to enter into discussions with Criterion to put together a release of the great “Chasing Amy” on the new high definition format. Not only would this allow us to have the best-ever copy of the film, but it would give him the chance to add all the planned extra stuff that’s been filmed, edited, and just waiting to be watched. If our memory serves, there was a new documentary filmed, in the tradition of the “Mallrats X” doc, and an outstanding Q&A session with the entire cast at the Arclight in LA which we attended. Here’s what they say:

Writer/director/actor Kevin Smith has sent a proposal to Criterion for a Blu-ray release of his film ‘Chasing Amy’. The filmmaker always had planned for a super 10-year anniversary release (much like the one completed for his earlier films ‘Clerks’ and ‘Mallrat’), but Criterion has stated they refuse to double-dip (history, however, may disagree with that statement). So now he is proposing a Blu-ray release with all the added material, meaning it wouldn’t technically be a double-dip of the DVD release.

This release would have all the bonus material from the original DVD release along with a host of extras not previously seen and (supposedly) exclusive to the Blu-ray release. Its yet to be seen if Criterion goes ahead with such plans, especially since the 10-year Anniversary of the film was last year.

Come on, Criterion! We wanna see this! And we WILL buy it! Take a look at View Askew’s track record on DVD, and it’s easy to see – home releases of these flicks are VERY profitable, and Chasing Amy is sure to be a best seller and a must-have for collector libraries.

View the full article in this very cool new format from Home Media Magazine (be sure and try out their magnifying glass which lets you zoom over the pages). Clicking the graphic will blow it up, too.

Or, you can view our copy above, which we’re nabbing for the News Askew archives. And for the record, we believe Kev’s awesome new TV and Blu-ray player were a gift from PANASONIC, not Paramount.

  • This is potentially BIG news, but since it’s the unreliable IMDB, we just have to chalk this up as rumor for right now — The site reports that Kevin will direct (for at least an episode) the new Untitled Seth Rogen/Evan Goldberg Show being developed for the Showtime network. Due to Kevin’s past involvement with the network (for the enjoyable “Manchild” pilot), and obviously his relationship with Rogen, we could certainly see this happening. If anyone on the inside has any verification or a flat out denial, we’d love to hear so we can clear this one up.
  • And finally today, we just couldn’t risk linking this web comic, and when you read it, you’ll see why. Sort of like the carrot dangling in front of us that we just couldn’t resist. Catch ya next time…
