- It’s been a while since we had a SMonologue, but a recent multi-tweet response prompted Kevin to once again compile it all into a single post at the Silent Bob Speaks blog, where he compares his “Red State” approach, and plans beyond, to the strategy of one of the greatest athletes of all time. Remember, always go to where the puck’s gonna be. Here’s a a taste:
…In the time I’ve leaned on Gretzky as a higher power, I’ve made two flicks, sold out Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, toured the country with podcasts from an entire network we built in less than a year, opened the world’s first & only podcasting theater, got Walter Gretzky into the Guinness Book of World Records, and started the long-tail, long-lead sell of Red State (the posters, pods, etc.).
I’m not saying Gretzky’s responsible for all of that; I’m well-aware I did all that stuff myself, with the help of friends & fans. But going where the puck’s gonna be comes directly from Gretzky. My office walls are loaded with images of the boy from Brantford trying to do things that hadn’t been done before. Considering Gretzky’s work ethic, humility and character, why not look up to him as a role model – even if I’m 40 and I’ve done cool shit of my own?
Gretzky spent his career outdoing his own personal bests; I’d like to spend the time I’ve got left doing the same. The Askewniverse was a dream come true, but I dream bigger now. And settling for one Stanley Cup when I know I can secure a dynasty seems a waste of opportunity. Gretzky said ‘You miss 100% of the shots you never take.’ So I stopped being cute with my puck and started firing that shit top shelf instead.

SModcast SMirts Are Coming!
- The first of what sounds like an extensive line of shirts based on the SModcast Network programs have been revealed, these based on the popular “Plus One” series. The initial set comes in black with cool art screened on both the front and back, with sizes for chicks and dudes alike. $20 for either style and available for immediate ordering.
We’re pretty sure that they’ll come up with a different title than “SMirts” (SMouterwear maybe?), but it seems that February will bring a major overhaul to the merch moving out of Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, as many new designs are introduced. To us, this seems to back up our theory that the 2011 Askewniverse Garage Sale at the Stash in Red Bank (and online, of course) will be a total clean-out of ALL the old View Askew shirts, making room for a brand new line of SModcast-themed outerwear and merch.
What does this mean? It means, if you’ve been trying to decide if you want to buy something, NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO DO IT! Coupon code “REDSTATE” even takes 15% off your entire order at the Stash (who, by the way, are selling the fantastic “Clerks” lunchbox, one of our favorite pieces of merch ever, for a ridiculous FIVE BUCKS). It sure sounds like the run of all the original Stash swag is on its way out for good, without any new stuff being produced (or, limited product lines), so grab your shirts and swag while ya still can. There’s a lot of stuff that you’ll be very disappointed you miss in your collection, and at these prices, they’re real bargains.
Stay tuned in February for more announcements regarding the online Stash and SModcast swag.

Clerks III: Will It Happen?
- Obviously, with the reveal that “Hit Somebody” would be the last ever directorial effort from Kevin before retirement, many were left scratching their heads, wondering if a Clerks III/3 would ever see the light. Rather than speculate, here’s the writer/director himself on that possibility:
I’ve always said I’d leave room for a possible CLERKS III, but w/o Jay or Bob, focusing on Dante & Randal, if I felt like telling a story about how I felt to be in my 40’s (as CLERKS was me in my 20’s & CLERKS II was me in my 30’s). But rather than manufacture a CLERKS III, I decided to live a real life CLERKS II. My favorite moment in that flick will always be Randal finally revealing his dopey secret heart & yelling “I’D BUY THE QUICK STOP & RE-OPEN IT MYSELF!” I wrote that line for a deeper reason that I thought I had, in retrospect. From day four of the RedState shoot, all I could hear was Randal in my head, insisting “THAT’S what I’d do. That’s what WE should do.” A long time ago, Randal gave me my entire career; nearly 20 years later, he did it again.
But that all being said? Right now, I honestly have NO story to tell with Dante & Randal. I was always really happy with where we left them.
So while I’ll always allow for the possibility of a CLERKS III, it’s not likely. HIT SOMEBODY is the film the end on. Then? MORE PODCASTS!!!
