- Another Flashdance? Producer Jerry Brucheimer is ready to shoot Coyote Ugly, which he describes as “a throwback to Flashdance,” a film he produced (with the late Don Simpson) that became a surprise blockbuster hit in ’83. This time, the music-driven movie will tell the story of a New Jersey girl who moves to Manhatten to be a singer-songwriter and take a job in a bar.”We developed the film from scratch,” Bruckheimer says. “We finally got a script we were pleased with. Aaron Sorkin (The American President, A Few Good Men) did a rewrite.” The film, which has had several writers, is based on an article published in GQ magazine.
The Slang expression of the title refers to waking up after a wild night with a person lying on your arm who is so unattractive you’d rather gnaw off the arm than wakr him or her up. Coyote Ugly is also the name of a country music saloon in New York’s East Village.
- Ben, Gwyneth “Bounce” Back?
by Marcus Errico
Ben and Gwyneth, together again?
The famously former off-screen tandem is close to reteaming as on-screen paramours, Daily Variety reports.
Affleck and Paltrow, who appeared together (but not together) on celluloid in the Oscar-winning Shakespeare in Love, are supposedly in final talks to star opposite each other in Bounce, a romance of sorts from Don Roos (The Opposite of Sex).
The plot goes something like this: Affleck gives up his seat on a plane to a guy anxious to get home to his wife (Paltrow). The plane goes down, and the guilt-stricken Affleck, who blames himself for the other guy’s death, turns to the bottle. After a year, he decides to pay a visit to the widow and they fall for each other. The catch: She doesn’t know he’s indirectly responsible for her hubby’s demise.
Like Shakespeare in Love, Bounce will be produced by Miramax.
Despite their well-publicized split, Paltrow and Affleck have made a point of remaining pals. He appeared on Saturday Night Live when she was hosting, and they lampooned their break-up. And during her best actress acceptance speeches at both the Golden Globes and Oscars, Paltrow made a point of thanking “my dear friend Ben Affleck.”
